The 2019 UEFA Super Cup is coming up this week. There's no specific forum for this one-off game so I'm putting it in here. Take a look at the odds and let us know what bets you're putting on for this clash. :ok

Liverpool vs Chelsea

It's an all-English affair for a third major European cup trophy match in a row as Champions League winners Liverpool face Europa League champions Chelsea in an 8pm kick-off at the BJK Vodafone Park in Istanbul tonight. Usually, this UEFA Super Cup game is seen as no more than a European version of the Community Shield but there is a lot of damage to morale and self-belief that could be caused here.

Liverpool started their league campaign with the fervour that everyone expected in their dominant 4-1 win over newly promoted Norwich on the weekend. It was a seamless transition from last season to this season and was a perfect response to the penalty shoot-out defeat to league title holders Manchester City the previous weekend. In this game, Jurgen Klopp's men will look to add another European trophy to their cabinet with victory here. It was 2005 when the Reds last contested this trophy and they won it back then.

Chelsea could not have anticipated a worse start to their league campaign. A demoralising 4-0 loss away to Manchester United was gut-wrenching. That was particularly the case because it was a harsh result on the young Blues side. Had Tammy Abraham's effort deflected in off the post rather than bounce back out then it could have been a completely different outcome. Frank Lampard knows the uphill battle he faces under a transfer embargo and the departure of club legend Eden Hazard. A win here would go a long way to giving the Chelsea fans something to cheer about early in the season.

In the past 10 UEFA Super Cup matches, the winner of the Champions League has prevailed as the victor on 7 occasions. Only one team has managed to win it after winning the Europa League and that was Atletico Madrid on three separate times in 2010, 2012, and 2018. Liverpool also come into this game having won 10 of their last 12 competitive games by at least a two goal margin. Liverpool have only won 1 of the past 6 meetings between these two clubs but that was a 2-0 win against Chelsea back in April. I expect a similar score-line here against a Blues side that should improve as the season goes on but will take time settling down.
