Arsenal vs Valencia

The Europa League Semi-Finals commence tonight with their first leg matches and the first of those games we are previewing here is the clash between Premier League side Arsenal and La Liga club Valencia in an 8pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium. Can Unai Emery secure a win over his old employers?

Arsenal were dealt a huge blow this week when it was confirmed that Aaron Ramsey had played his last game for the club after his hamstring injury ruled him out for the season. The Welshman has been a pivotal player for Emery this season and the club's form since he was sidelined shows how much they miss his influence. The Gunners have slipped out of the top four in the league after losing three league games in a row. The 3-0 aggregate win over Napoli in the previous round seems a lifetime ago.

Valencia will be quietly optimistic that they can take a victory here. Arsenal have won 5 and drawn 1 of their 6 home games in the Europa League this season but the 3-2 defeat Crystal Palace inflicted on Emery's men at the Emirates a few weeks back will have given Marcelino's side a few clues about how to get the better of the London club on home territory. Valencia are also battling for Champions League qualification on the domestic front and have also lost consecutive games in the league. Are the nerves getting to both of these sides?

We could see a lively encounter here. Valencia have shown in previous rounds that they can score on the road but they are also quite vulnerable to potent attacking sides. Arsenal won't keep a clean sheet here. Their central midfield is too fragile right now. They might sneak a first leg win but we should see goals at both ends of the pitch.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Chelsea

The second Europa League Semi-Final first leg we're taking a look at is the match between Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt and Premier League club Chelsea in an 8pm kick-off at the Commerz-Bank Arena. The bookies are backing the visitors but is that misguided faith?

Eintracht Frankfurt will be a familiar outfit to those of you that have followed our Bundesliga tips this season. We've backed them a number of times and they've delivered the goods. Adi Hutter's side are in 4th place in the league and looking set to qualify for the Champions League. They are a team that has been written off a lot this season but keep producing the quality. An undefeated streak at home in this competition has been crucial in helping them reach this stage and just 1 loss in their last 8 home league games shows they are a tough side to beat on their own turf.

Chelsea are just clinging onto that top four spot in the Premier League as everyone in and around them seems really reluctant to qualify for the Champions League this season. Maurizio Sarri's side haven't won in three league games but they're doing just enough. 11 wins and 1 draw in this competition makes them the best performers of the teams left but this trip to Frankfurt is tougher than anything they've faced so far.

The big issue for Chelsea is their defence. Only David Luiz and Andreas Christensen are their available centre backs after the injuries to Gary Cahill and Antonio Rudiger. Sarri has likened Frankfurt to playing in a similar style to Slavia Prague and we know how the Blues struggled to get past the Czechia side. This could be the same over two legs. I'd back Frankfurt to get something in this game but Chelsea should be too strong over two legs.
