StevieDay1983
Cardiff vs Stoke The hardcore rigours of the Championship will begin to set in over the next few months as midweek games become commonplace. That is certainly the case this week when we have a full schedule. Cardiff host Stoke in a 7:45pm GMT kick-off at the Cardiff City Stadium. It's one of the most unpredictable games around with both sides under the tenure of new managers. Cardiff fans were pleased with the performance away to Charlton on the weekend. I mean, it could have been a lot worse but we also really should have come away with all 3 points. The stonewall penalty on Callum Paterson that wasn't given and Junior Hoilett missing from the spot. However, the issues from Neil Warnock's time in charge were clear to see. An awful defence, an impotent strike force, and a midfield that consistently gets overrun. Still, the team showed more fight and to come from 2-0 down against the run of play to get a 2-2 draw was impressive. How will Neil Harris handle his first game in charge of the Bluebirds at home? His home record with Millwall was very decent so hopefully he can carry that through. Stoke were looking down and out under Nathan Jones but the appointment of Northern Ireland gaffer Michael O'Neill is nothing short of a masterstroke. The club has earned back-to-back wins since he was given the job and they now look like a side that are showing signs of fulfilling their potential. A victory should move them outside the relegation zone but it'll be a tough job. On the plus side, they are unbeaten against Cardiff in 8 matches but 3 of the last 4 encounters have ended in draws. Only 1 of the past 8 meetings has also ended in over 2.5 goals being scored. The immediate result that stands out for me is a draw. Stoke look rejuvenated but have they come up against an experienced Championship unit yet? No disrespect to Barnsley or Wigan but they might not pose the same physical questions and nous that Cardiff will. I think an upbeat home fan base will push the Bluebirds to a draw but I'm not convinced either side will snatch a winner. I got the Cardiff result on the weekend spot on but this one is tougher to call. Hopefully, I'm correct.
