  1. We could have a vote on who gets to have a vote! Or, to keep it simple, just set a minimum post count threshold for eligibility, I'd say, off the top of my head, 7.4k posts would be a reasonable minimum>

  2. Crikey only just noticed this thread , here's me thinking i'd joined a fun competition ?

  3. Me too, I've done it before but ages ago and on a different laptop. Having just googled it though, it's easy enough to find out or remind oneself how to do it. As we have to be online to post our entries in the first place I'd say it stops short of being discriminatory and it's just a matter of whether or not the individual can be bothered with the faff. I couldn't but I'm very much a pin-sticking "just for the fun of it" participant in the naps comp and am fine with domestic fare. If anyone ever wanted to post a nap that fell into this category I'd suggest asking on here stating what type of device you're using and I'm sure someone will be happy to help. Also, as the person who has introduced the rule, @MCLARKE has offered everyone who wants it one half hour IT sessions where he will come round to your house and show you how to do it.

  4. 1.50 Muss Mahalik 11/4 (2 pt win) 2.30 Catt Ventura Express 5/2 (1 pt win at 9/2 last night) 1 x 2 pt win double poss return 26.25 Singles: 2.30 Catt Embour 0.60 at 7/1 @Gary66selection and Vintage Clarets 0.60 win at 9/1 @black rabbit's selection 6.20 staked so far Wise Eagle fancied by @The Brigadier and @clinton in the 3.20 at Muss but not had a chance to look at that one yet. And, I have to prepare a roast lamb meal so may miss it. Wil come back and look at evening meetings later ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks like my racing is fraught with drama today. My first horse was carried by another horse and Catterick has been abandoned because of unsafe ground. I have had 2 pts win on Wise Eagle in the 3.20 at Muss at 4.1 hoping to retrieve some stake money NB Traded out Wise Eagle because the going has changed Well done to Wise Eagle, only got back 0.39 pts. The going change made no difference Nothing wonderful for tonight's racing IMO. Have gone for some outsiders based upon the Trainer's track record 5.50 Sed Iolani 1 pt win at 8.6 Diane Sayer has a good track record over hurdles here 6.20 Sed First Revolution 0.30 win at 12/1 Martin Todhunter 28% strike rate in chases here 6.50 Sed Calculous 0.15 win at 33/1 (Sara Ender) and Largy Reach 0.15 at 22/1 (Don McCaine). @Zilzaliannaps Danking at 100/1. All probably subject to a rule 4 deduction as Allbetsoff is a significant non runner 8.00 Km Fascinating race; I hope I get to watch it. I have had 1 pt win on Asaassi at 6.2. The horse is much better than its last race 8.80 Total stakes today Best wishes to all still in there punting ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Good last race, if Asaassi had kicked on a bit more it may not have got caught by a neck. One lucky winner with First Revolution so a loss on the day of 4.51 pts. Makes my MTD -63.41 and YTD =-265.59 7 races tomorrow class 4 and above with only a couple with 3/1 favourites; the rest are shorter Not forgetting 7 bookies benefit races at Newcastle with a Racing League event. May take part with very low stakes. Will focus on trainers with a good record at Newcastle. None but the brave should bet big in these shambles of races

  7. I think we should have a vote on whether we vote on rule changes ... ? To debate them is for the most part healthy. But then i think its the admin decision as ultimately they have to enforce these rules. How would a vote work anyway? 1 member 1 vote although on paper would seem reasonable but takes no account of contribution? How can someone like me who pretty much does the competitions only - all be it i always back my selections as they arent just to win the competitions, get the same voting power as say @The Equaliser or @Zilzalian and many others who post daily with info / tips to help all members

  8. Getting a discussion on the subject is a courtesy, albeit a sensible one (gauge reaction, sense check the proposal and iron out any ambiguities). Expecting a vote is unrealistic. Unless, of course, this is the start of your bid to gain ownership of the site and/or take over the running of the competition. if you feel strongly enough about the subject you could always try and arrange a strike (they’re all the rage at the moment) but I suspect you’d end up as “The Naps Comp one”. This isn’t a democracy, think of @MCLARKEas a reasonably benign dictator who watches over all our antics with a wry smile on his face.

  9. Actually i think not, members do/did not set the rules admin did so it should be an admin decision, a decision based on the feedback they have received, any other way or what you are suggesting will just draw out the process unnecessarily. Want an example? Just go through all the feedback and the various reactions to it. some people commented on comments without knowing or bothering to read the original problem and some ended up arguing about the various comments rather than the problem and from what i have seen only a small amount of members maybe 8 at most gave feedback anyway, Most others didnt really care or bother. so that begs the question how many will vote anyway? those 8 or a few more? it certainly wouldn't be anywhere near the hundred plus that usually participate in the comp. the 2 rule changes proposed have had decent enough feedback i see no reason to Stop Mike making a decision on these issues when he sees fit. The 3rd (last) rule change was Mikes suggestion because he identified a rule where the previous version of the rule was open to abuses and therefore wasn't fair on other members, you vindicated his concern by admitting to taking advantage of said rule that as i see it covered people submitting more than one nap in error which i might add i have nearly done myself on occasion forgetting i had already submitted my nap.

  10. I'm mildly entertained by it all. It's also allowed me to look at some of the other rules as well.

  11. It's an interesting debate. There are 2 extremes. One extreme is the novice punter who has no restrictions and therefore will be able to take early prices with BOG. The other extreme is the skilled punter who can't get a bet on at all even at SP. This punter will be forced to use the exchanges. I suspect that most of us are somewhere in between. For instance I can bet with BET365 and BET VICTOR with no restictions at all but I am restricted with all the other commonly recognised bookmakers. My profit margin is about 5%, without BOG this would be more or less wiped out. I think the current rules are fine, we are partly attempting to attract new people to the forum and these will be able to access the prices and offers. It would make sense to only include those bookmakers who offer BOG the night before.

  12. Sometimes those voices earn me big bucks, well maybe not big, but not bad for a horse that came 3rd. Think that's £240 profit. (I love the fact that The Bookies don't let me cash out anymore when i put multiple bets on the same horse, not that i want to anyway, is this normal, does anyone else experience this. )

  14. 1900 - K - Jack Sparrowe @ 200-1 £5 ew Bet365 and £5 ew @ 50-1 (xtra) 5 places Bet365 (Missed the start on first run but finished well. With a better start and down in distance, has place chances) Also only Bet365 have this at 200-1, everyone else is 25's to 33's and PP at 40's.

  15. Likewise , I post on the French & US threads but wouldn't actually now nap any of my fancies because being the biggest Luddite in the World I have no idea how to send / post a screenshot so therefore the new rules discriminate against some but it's a fun , free game so win lose or draw I'm not that fussed though bookie choices see Betfair & Paddy Power , they're the same & same odds , maybe add another different bookie whence the new rules kick it may be a good idea / alternative .

  17. There are a lot of varied opinions being expressed in this thread but you seem to have mastered the knack of being the only person to put forward ones that elicit no agreement whatsoever. Do let us know once you've made your mind up as we're all on tenterhooks. "If that's your attitude!" That's a remarkably condescending tone to adopt towards the person who takes all the time and effort to run the naps competitions and who had the courtesy to invite views from anyone who wished to express them. Not so much "one man, one vote" as "one man banging on tediously about having a vote". Good job it's not the Derby or you'd be off to Epsom to chuck yourself in front of the Queen's horse. Sometimes it can be a noble thing to argue against everyone else in the room (when it has the vaguest purpose), sometimes it just answers the "who's the idiot in the room" question.

  18. went with mannarino taking a set of ramos, since he has a perfect record on hardcourts against the spaniard and was damn good against ruusovori. Also took draper to beat domi, I don t think thiem has been impressive here and he got very lucky against grigor.

  24. We're straight into the Northern Ireland Open tomorrow. An event we tipped up last year for Mark Allen to come out and win. Was a hell of a final, too, beating Higgins in a deciding leg. I like Jimmy Robertson to beat Gary Wilson tomorrow. He has won the last few h2hs but he is also playing the better right now and he also has points to protect having made the Last 16 here, last year. I also it's probably worth 2pts on Oliver Brown against Maguire. Maguire does have points to protect here but he just looked so average against Stevens last week and he also lost to Brown only a month ago. He isn't 13/2 tomorrow. 5pts J. Robertson to beat G. Wilson 4/5 willhill 2pts O. Brown to beat S. Maguire 13/2 paddypower 1pt treble - JRobertson / Woollaston / JJones (-2.5 frames) 6/1 paddypower

  25. Let’s make it hyper realistic, if someone has a couple of winners we take BOG off them and if they persist in doing well we half their stakes. Out of interest, is BOG often a factor, i.e. the SP is bigger than the early price taken? I assume most winners will go off shorter than the price taken by the resident shrewdies.

  27. FFS roll on 1st of september before every rule gets changed and a dozen more added on. Unbeleivable Jeff (i before e eejit). If i was @MCLARKE i would be hanging from a tree now with my suicide note saying some Twat who ridiculously calls himself zilzalian asked for a consideration coz he got pissed off one day and now he is being surrounded by the keyboard warrior brigade, Well you get what you ask for in this life Zil its self inflicted so serves you right ya daft prick. The only saviour to this situation would be to call for Edward Woodward The Equaliser to come sort it out but alas he wanted a vote first. ????

  35. Basically a mixture of banter and the same discussion points being chased round in ever decreasing circles. Not too late, I'm sure if anyone can make a genuinely persuasive argument against any of the changes then it would be taken on board. Or the clamour for a ballot could gather momentum until @MCLARKE has no choice other than to explain yet again that there won't be one!

  37. Well, OK but all you are doing is listening to a select few. Sounds like dim-ocrasy to me rather than democracy. I think I would rather you just go ahead and change the rules as you feel fit without any discussion if that's your attitude. In the words of Arnie "Do It"

  44. There seems to be some confusion between tipping a horse to score points for the competition and betting on said horse, nothing anywhere to say a bet has to be placed, never has been so no idea why anyone is talking about screenshots of bets as opposed to oddschecker? Agree totally with Harry rag,re discussion being a courtesy from Admin, closed loophole seems sensible also. For the rest I care not, only affects a small % of users and as far as I was concerned it was Caveat Emptor as far as the rules went,no objections to any rule changes btw.

  46. Thanks for flagging that, there’s a week left to exploit the loophole! At a push you could interpret the current rule as meaning if your first horse lost you could put up another one and have another crack!

  47. PSV v Rangers: BTTS (Yes) @ 4/7 (Bet365) The first leg ended 2-2 in a very entertaining game and though PSV should be favourites to go through with home advantage this game should still produce goals. Away goals no long count double which means both sides need to get a win. Whilst both sides have started their league campaigns well remaining unbeaten and scoring lots of goals their defences have not been the most solid. PSV have conceded in all 6 of their competitive games so far whilst Rangers have conceded in 5 of the 7 games they have played in all competitions.
