Villarreal vs Osasuna

OK, so last week didn't quite go to plan with Eibar bucking their form and grinding out the 0-0 draw away to Celta Vigo. Still, as the old saying goes, we pick ourselves up and go again this week. It's Villarreal versus Osasuna in a 5:30pm GMT kick-off on Sunday afternoon at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Surely, this one is going to be too easy to get wrong, right?

Villarreal are currently positioned in 8th place and only 3 points off the pace of the European qualification spots. Furthermore, Javier Calleja's men are only 5 points behind the Champions League qualification places. The chase is on! The Yellow Submarine (what a cracking nickname for a club!) have won 4 of their last 5 league games and their positive season has been boosted by the resurrection of Santi Cazorla. Even though the club's home record is ranked 14th in La Liga they have only lost 2 of their 10 league matches on home turf.

Osasuna are right behind their opponents for tonight's game in 10th place. It seemed like an impossible dream at the start of the season but only 6 points separate them from a journey into Europe. Head coach Jagoba Arrasate has done a superb job at the club with Los Rojillos looking good to confirm their place in the Spanish top flight for next season. A solid 2-0 win over Levante last week put a stop to a winless run of 5 league matches. However, they come into this match with just 1 win from their last 9 away league games.

It's understandable that the bookies and ELO ratings back a home win here. Villarreal are starting to show the sort of form that will make them challengers for a Europa League or even Champions League spot come May. Only Barcelona and Real Madrid have scored more goals than them this season so their scoring threat is not in doubt. They'll need all that fire power against an Osasuna side that has kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league.
