  1. Happy New Years Day everyone 🤝🏽 Wasn't the best of December's and I still need to calculate my final P/L for the end of 2024 as it was only tracked over a month or so but it was profitable nonetheless 😃 I'm starting a new P/L for 2025 today after a nice week break from it to enjoy some family time over the festive break. Good luck if you follow this year, let's hope for a profitable 2025. Today's selections... 2.10 Exeter Missy Mole 7/1 2pt win 3.05 Catterick Just Jess 9/1 1pt win 3.10 Fakenham For Gina 15/2 2pt win (price boost) 3.15 Cheltenham Salver 5/2 2pt win 7pts staked 🍀

  2. YEAR-END RESULTS AND NEW YEAR There was just one winner today, which returned 1.50 points from a total stake of 3.00 points, so there was a loss of 1.50 on the day. My total L15 balance for the year was – 139.47. My total loss for the year, including L15s and an Accas balance of -16.67, was -210.82. While I appreciate that the idea was to make a profit, I think I have achieved value for money because this has cost me just £4.05 per week for months of daily entertainment. I don’t feel guilty about putting up too many Lucky 15 bets this year. If one takes the time to study all the races, I can see no reason not to include the selections in various Lucky 15 bet combinations. A big mistake was to include two from each race a lot of the time. It seemed reasonable because competitive races always have more than one serious contender. However, it at least halves the chance of having multiple chances of success, so I have knocked this on the head. I love making these bets, so I will continue to do so in the new year. They are a great way to back several horses each day with a small outlay and the possibility of a good return should three or four selections win. The problem for me is that I did not get many decent returns. Hence, I have work to do. I was glad to dump the singles bets earlier in the year. These have contributed almost 55 points toward my total loss for the year. I was doing something very wrong with my selections. However, I now feel I can return to singles bets with some purpose. Using the horse’s ability with its trainer’s expertise and less so the Jockey booking, I will be looking to find up to three selections on the days I do racing. I am not going to commit to three selections or even one if I can’t find what looks to be a horse with a good chance of winning at a price that looks to be of value. I have been experimenting with outsider selections in the Nap comp for the past two months with limited success. I now wish to go back to my more traditional method of selecting a “player” i.e. a horse with odds up to 9/1 for this. The single bet method described above may help in this regard. I will most likely skip backing the Accas. I don’t think I will have enough time to try and find five favourite selections for this. I will keep records of my stakes and returns so that the ROI can clearly be shown. Finally, my wife died in March of this year after struggling with four months of complications. I have decided that I now wish to do something else besides horse racing. I don’t want to give it up as it has been a hobby of mine since childhood. I will split my time between horse racing and writing songs in the New Year. This means there will often be days when I don’t post. I will always try to bet on Saturdays as I feel this is where the more significant opportunities lie in finding winning bets. May I wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

  3. A very good morning to everybody on the forum and a happy new year. Hope any hangovers being nursed are not too bad this morning as we prepare ourselves for another year of war with those awful bookies. Could only manage a 12/1 each way place in France yesterday at Pau (Kermillis 3rd) for small each way money back so on to today. Here are my selections for today which is tricky, particularly at Cheltenham where exactly how much the ground will cut up before your selections run would be purely guesswork: Fairyhouse 1.50 JUNIPER HILL e/w @ 18/1 (rev. f/cst with Meehall) (Will Hill) 5 places Musselburgh 2.20 INDIAN LOUIS e/w @ 10/1 (B365) 3 places Cheltenham 2.40 STRACKAN e/w @ 5/1 (rev. f/cst with What A Johnny) (general) 3 places Cheltenham 3.50 MARHABA PRINCE e/w @ 11/2 (B365) (rev. f/cst with Precious Metal) 4 places My original fancies for the Cheltenham races were different to above but thinking ground may go against them so hope I am right to change. Good luck today everyone, hope you get the New Year off to a flyer.

  9. Bath v Farnborough The new manager for off to a very good start and Bath needed that change of manager for me because they have a very capable squad who were under performing. Farnborough's away form is pretty awful so with those 2 things combined I make Bath a bet. Chesham v Hemel Hempstead We will never know if Hemel would have beaten St Albans on Boxing Day, but we get another opportunity to back them and at a massive price as well. I know Chesham did us on the 4pt bet on Boxing Day, but Slough did out perform them on the xG front and had a great chance to win the game. I'm hoping there will be a few quid to be had supporting Hemel before the bookies catch up on their improvement. Torquay v Truro I'm still not sure about Torquay and they only drew with Weymouth on Boxing Day. Truro continue to with their superb season that they are having and they have it in them to beat their Devon rivals. Cray v Dulwich Cray should have hammered Hendon on Saturday, but thankfully for us they got a late winner despite going down to 10 men. That continued their good run and if the weather forecast wasn't so bad I would have more than a point on. Dulwich's away form is horrid and they managed to lose to a ten man Whitehawk side who had a midfielder in goal on Saturday. They have a long injury list as well at the moment and they could struggle again this afternoon Bath 1pt @ 2/1 with Paddy Power, Betfair, BetVictor and Betfred (Hills are 11/5 and take up to 7/4) Hemel Hempstead 1pt @ 16/5 with Skybet, BetVictor, Betfair, Paddy Power, Betfred and Bet365 (Hills are 17/5 and take up to 2/1) Truro 1pt @ 23/10 with Betfair, Paddy Power, BetVictor and Betfred (Hills are 12/5 and take up to 9/5) Cray 1pt @ 6/5 with William Hill (take up to Evs)

  14. Final real money BB return for 2024 was +315.65 points profit from 271 bets with an ROI of 20.67%. Following a smaller profit last year (around 3% ROI) and the returns in the "365" thread posted on here it's safe to say I'll carry on with a similar approach until the results tell me otherwise.

  24. If my figures are correct 83 selections 12 winners +8 pts @ 1pt LS Pretty pleased with that actually, there were probably 10 or so selections that were 'fillers' , usually short priced selections to make up the numbers, non of which won I believe. Anyway, happy new year and let's strive to do better.

  25. Well done to @tonythepaint the only one in profit which shows you only need a decent double to make money. a shout out to @Carole-dawney who was very consistent, @yossa6133 the only one with a treble all be it a small one. FYI all my selections were No3's on the racecard, where possible between 10/1 and 33/1 (No 1,2 and 4 all did better 😟) and that was an expensive way to measure other peoples selection processes against, you all beat it so well done. Hope you all enjoyed the challenge it was at least interesting if nothing else. 😂 I will further scrutinise the tables to see if there is any worth while data in there. If @harry_rag wants to have a shuftie i will send him the spreadsheet.

  30. I have managed to kick off with a winner and included in the Naps and one L15. Profit on the day = 5.44 after taking into account 0.05 loss on the L15. Haha, the ROI looks to be 549% on the single bet but if I combine the two bets I get 217.6 %. Don't know how to keep cumulative tabs on these on my Excel Spreadsheet. If @harry_rag can send me a formula to put into Excel I would appreciate it

  31. Beautifully put by the two above posters-credit to you both. One thing that i will take away from The Equalisers post is that though he made quite a hefty loss on the year, when split down, it only equates to about the cost of a pint weekly. A lesson learnt to all of us who are feeling down because our profit/loss column was not all that we had hoped for last year. He is right to feel value had been achieved, because he has had a load of entertainment(no doubt keeping him going through some very tough times) for such a small outlay, fair play to him. Look forward to reading more from The Equaliser as and when he feels able to join us...

    DAILY LUCKY 15

One a day win only is the sensible option for most days. If the prices are big enough just add on a 25p ew acca because to be honest the treble is pretty much useless anyway at lower stakes. @LEE-GRAYS you would have comfortably won the December naps comp with win only.

    SPEED RATINGS

I've done a bit more work on the NH ratings and I have the first tentative system developed. I am currently concentrating on hurdle races, the logic being that there are more of these than chases and they should be more dependent on speed whereas chases will be more dependent on jumping ability. The downside is that there are less races per meeting to determine the going allowance. I have 7 full years of data to analyse. First analysis was for the 5 years 2018/19 to 2022/23. I then tested on the year 2023/24. I am counting the jumps season running from 1st May to 30th April. The results were a bit disappointing with the AE in the test year being 0.99. However the results are better if I stick to the current race being a non handicap rather than a handicap with the AE being 1.03 in the test year. I have therefore analysed the 5 years 2019/20 to 2023/34. I have taken the top 20% of performances and applied further criteria to them. These include forecast odds being less than 6/1 and weight not being more than 6lbs higher than the qualifying run. In the 5 years of base data there were 1,110 wins from 2,976 runs with a LSP of 267 points and an AE of 1.10. In the current year there have been 129 wins from 314 runs with a LSP of 25 points and a very impressive AE of 1.15. The only note of caution is that December has been the worst month so far with a loss of 21 points. Anyway, I have to take the plunge somewhere so here goes. Small stakes to start with, I'll take a bookmakers price if I can get best or joint best odds and BOG, otherwise it will be BSP. It looks like there will be a few short priced favourites. Stearns is one of the most talented out there imo, if she follows up her breakthrough season with another good year, she should be set!
