Morning all. A 5/1 winner yesterday meant a small profit to start the year but was left kicking myself at the end of the day. At Cheltenham felt Sean Bowen was too patient on What A Johnny when the reverse forecast might have been landed with Strackan, but was really annoyed with myself in the closing bumper. Knew that Precious Metal (won 16/1) was closely matched with Marhaba Star (hence the advised reverse forecast) on previous running and did toy with the fact it might reverse the previous length defeat over yesterday's slightly longer trip. With hindsight (what a wonderful thing) should definitely have put up Precious Metal at the bigger price each way. Was more annoyed that had missed out on a potential decent winner for all the members on the forum! With that now off my chest, have already looked at the UK action for today and tomorrow over the jumps and can see nothing of any value unfortunately to advise you as a bet. Will be looking hard at the weekend cards today and hoping there will be bets to had on the weekend. Have dipped into the French racing today for some sort of interest if anyone wants to have a peek at my selections. For all those who do play in the UK today, the very best of luck.

Birrell to beat Potapova at 2.52 I highly rate her attractiveness and fitness but for some reason I don't rate her tennis style much. Is too intensive and holding serve is always an issue so I will go with the home lady Birrell at her home tournament. Was really strong against navarro, although inconsistency is her problem and why she is yet to break into the top 100. Has had a career of littered injuries and perhaps not the belief which leads to inconsistency. But looks fit and should be entering her prime tennis years. Only going small stake because the best version of birrell may not show up. Potapova has better consistency due to her tenacity and fitness despite so many deficiencies in her game.

Alexandra Eala to beat Taylah Preston at 1.61 with Bet365 Eala hasn't broken through just yet, and the expectations now seem to be lower than ever. Her serve is still an issue, and there are plenty of problems in her game, but she's still a class above Preston, which is confirmed by the 2-0 H2H record between the two. Eala looked legit to me against Hartono as well.

@The Equaliser some thoughts on your New Year approach, I’ll have a crack at keeping them brief and to the point! accas - agree, bin them off. All the negatives of multis in terms of compounding any losses without the positive of the L15 bonuses. Likely to just be an ongoing drain on your returns. singles - agree you were right to drop them when you did, not convinced it’s a good idea to return to them but, if you’re inclined to do so, the proposed approach is sensible enough and you can track the performance to assess their merit over time. L15s - definitely the optimum bet for you given how much you like to stake and what you want to get out of your betting. Hopefully you’re due some good fortune this year in terms of how the winners are grouped together! One thing I would recommend (yet again) is tracking what your returns would be if backed as singles as this gives you the best view of your selection process and whether it’s improving over time. You could just keep a tally of the number of L15s, the number of non-runners and the odds of your winners to do this. There’s a lot of luck (good or bad) involved in the returns you get from L15s but the returns to singles gives you a much clearer view on how you’re doing. Good luck with the new approach, I’ll continue to follow with interest.

Beautifully put by the two above posters-credit to you both. One thing that i will take away from The Equalisers post is that though he made quite a hefty loss on the year, when split down, it only equates to about the cost of a pint weekly. A lesson learnt to all of us who are feeling down because our profit/loss column was not all that we had hoped for last year. He is right to feel value had been achieved, because he has had a load of entertainment(no doubt keeping him going through some very tough times) for such a small outlay, fair play to him. Look forward to reading more from The Equaliser as and when he feels able to join us...

Good start to the season, 2-0! Sijia Wei to beat Alexandra Eala at 1.72 with Bet365 Following up on the matches yesterday, I think Wei should be a bigger favorite in this one. She's never had as much hype as Eala, but her improvement trajectory has been steady recently, and she looked better yesterday as well. 6-0 in sets so far here, and I'm hoping she'll be 8-0 or 8-1 after today's round!

Bath v Farnborough The new manager for off to a very good start and Bath needed that change of manager for me because they have a very capable squad who were under performing. Farnborough's away form is pretty awful so with those 2 things combined I make Bath a bet. Chesham v Hemel Hempstead We will never know if Hemel would have beaten St Albans on Boxing Day, but we get another opportunity to back them and at a massive price as well. I know Chesham did us on the 4pt bet on Boxing Day, but Slough did out perform them on the xG front and had a great chance to win the game. I'm hoping there will be a few quid to be had supporting Hemel before the bookies catch up on their improvement. Torquay v Truro I'm still not sure about Torquay and they only drew with Weymouth on Boxing Day. Truro continue to with their superb season that they are having and they have it in them to beat their Devon rivals. Cray v Dulwich Cray should have hammered Hendon on Saturday, but thankfully for us they got a late winner despite going down to 10 men. That continued their good run and if the weather forecast wasn't so bad I would have more than a point on. Dulwich's away form is horrid and they managed to lose to a ten man Whitehawk side who had a midfielder in goal on Saturday. Another poor month with just 1 win from 16 selections and a loss of 12 points. Happy enough with the full year though with 42 wins from 194 selections and a profit of 41.26 points. Overall the AE was a disappointing 1.001 which is the lowest in the 4 years I have been running this system. I will have to review the data before considering my next move. Applying the odds range of 7/2 to 13/2 which I have used to reduce the number of selections has proved beneficial with 237 wins from 1,512 selections and a profit of 66 points. The AE is 1.07.

Thursday ( tbc ) Looks like a no bet day , plenty of 180's and shots on target offers but too difficult to evaluate as any form of value. The shots on target seem ok as singles when sufficiently enhanced but become less value when 2 , 3 or even 4 different players are involved as with the 180's which seem priced accordingly. Another example of perceived value only is the winning distance in the 2pm race , Skybet claim the fav to be Evens from 8/13 to win by 5+ lengths but as it's available on the exchange for above 2.60 ( likely to be bigger nearer race time ) to win by over 6 lengths it puts the Skybet enhancement into perspective and makes the 8/13 a price designed to make the offer too good to turn down , which win or lose it isn't.

Learnt my lesson. I had a pretty good December on the All weather. I shall be going straight back onto them from tomorrow. There are 252 days of All weather racing this year not including Dundalk. Plenty of opportunities.
