Won very well at Musselburgh back in November then failed to follow up when well backed next time. Came back after a break to finish a below par 4th but bounced back last time out at Kelso. He looked the likely winner that day until caught late on, he now has the cheek pieces back on and a major player in this sort of company.

Thirsk 3.40 Cote D’Azur @ 14/1 PP e/w thanks

Cote D’Azur....from Les Eyre yard the 4yo is a winner of five races from 7f to 1m 2f on good to firm and good ground and on the all-weather, He was previously with Sir Mark Prescott yard where four of those wins came but moved in August last year and the other win came in first race for Eyre yard, He's had the 7 runs since being at yard but was given 5 runs last year before being put away for winter but along with that win he found two 2nd place finishes one of which was the Shadwell Farm Handicap (Silver Cambridgeshire) at Newmarket 1m 1f GF off a mark of 92, He had the two runs this year without success a AW run to brush the cobwebs off and a prep race 25 days ago when 5th at Pontefract 1m 2f good , His ratings are down to 93 for today's race and only 1lb more than that Newmarket run with P J McDonald in saddle

PS. There a lovely nudist beach at Cote D’Azur seeming the biggest in Europe that was about 30 years ago when I was there camping next door to it with my family

5.00 Goodwood: Class 5 Handicap, 10f

Duchess Of Fife looks an intriguing contender for a red hot yard. The filly was pretty raw with plenty to learn in all her three maiden runs last season, however as an April foal she should have scope to improve this season. She has quite a big frame to fill too, so a winter may have done her the world of good.

A hood is applied for the first time, so she does try the 10f trip. Her maiden form looks solid rating wise, giving her every chance of an opening mark of 65. She will need to find improvement for the distance, headgear and maturity, but if she does make a step forward she should go very close here.

3.40 Thirsk

SOUND ADVICE @ 25/1 Bet 365

Won this race two years ago off 11lb lower but has been mostly running off marks in the 100's recently, the twice he dropped back to a double figure mark he won. Two wins and a second at the track and at home on this type of ground. Drawn well in 5. The lack of a recent run is a concern but at 20/1 there will always be risks attached.
