    Stoke vs Preston
There was only one game I was going to look into in the Championship this weekend and that's this clash between Stoke and Preston at the Bet365 Stadium (no, this is not a sponsored post!) in a 3pm kick-off. Why? It's only my boy Nathan Jones turning things around at the Potters!
OK, so Nathan Jones isn't my boy as such but he's a former Merthyr Town FC (formerly called Merthyr Tydfil FC when he was playing) player and I've been a big fan of his management style at Luton. It was a dodgy start to his tenure with the 3-1 loss to Brentford and then the 3-2 defeat to Shrewsbury in the FA Cup 3rd Round Replay. However, the 2-1 win at home to Leeds on the weekend suggested that times may be a-changing for the club.
Preston are a team struggling to keep their heads above water. I've always found Alex Neil a hard manager to like and I can't say I'm overly disappointed to see him experiencing the down side of management right now. The club is 18th and a safe 10 points clear of relegation but that could all change very quickly. The 4-1 win away to QPR on the weekend was a surprise after a run of 5 league games without a win but I can't help but feel it was more a freak score than a sign of improvement.
The Lilywhites have only won 3 of their 14 away matches this season and they've only picked up a point on three further occasions this campaign. Stoke might not be over-performing in 15th place but they're only 8 points outside the play-offs and have lost just 4 of their 14 home matches. Not bad for a team languishing down in the lower ebbs of mid-table.
I'm going to have to back a Stoke win here. I think Preston have the potential to make things difficult for teams but I think as Jones starts to get to know his players more he'll begin to maximise their attacking prowess. At their best, this Stoke team has the quality of a Premier League side. Jack Butland, Ashley Williams, Ryan Shawcross, and Joe Allen to name a few. They could be a worthwhile tip for a late push for the play-offs.

    Barnsley vs Rochdale
League One dishes up an intriguing clash this weekend when play-off hopefuls Barnsley host relegation battlers Rochdale in a 3pm kick-off at Oakwell. All the form and stats are pointing to a home win but is it worth backing a big victory here to make the most of the value on offer?
The Tykes are reeling this week after Daniel Stendel saw his assistant manager Andreas Winkler join up with new Huddersfield manager Jan Siewert at the Premier League club. It will be interesting to see how Stendel's backroom staff shapes up after this departure. The club is in 5th place in the table and 6 points inside the play-offs. This has been helped by a run of 5 wins and 2 draws from their last 7 league games. Can it continue here?
Rochdale are lingering in an uncomfortable 20th place in the table. The Dale are just 1 point and one place above the relegation zone but the teams behind them have a game in hand. It's a worrying plight not made any better by the fact that the club hasn't won a game in 5 attempts in the league. This has included some demoralising results including a 4-0 loss at home to fellow strugglers Bradford, a 5-0 defeat away to Doncaster, and a 4-0 loss at home to Burton. It's a bad time to be a Rochdale fan. Keith Hill remains the man in charge though and it seems they'll be happy with just surviving this season.
It seems almost inevitable here that Barnsley will get the win. I'm concerned at how the departure of Winkler might impact on the Tykes in the long term but I think they'll be OK here. Rochdale could well be relegated this season. The past two performances have been an improvement on the previous three but the losing habit is hard to shake. I can see Barnsley winning this game by a comfortable 2-3 goal margin.

    Arsenal vs Manchester United
It's the big tie of the FA Cup 4th Round kicking things off on Friday night when Arsenal and Manchester United play against each other in this 7:55pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium. It's tough to gauge what state either of these sides are in right now but with such a high level of unpredictability about this game it felt right to plunge head first into it!
Arsenal come into this game off the back of an impressive 2-0 win at home to Chelsea. That win now means that Unai Emery's side are in 5th place and just 3 points outside the play-offs. Heading into this game, Emery's side will be aiming to build on the 3-0 win over Blackpool in the previous round. The Gunners are without Hector Bellerin after it was confirmed he would miss the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Manchester United are flying under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The club legend has won all seven of his games in charge so far across all competitions yet the fans still aren't convinced he's the man to lead them on a full-time basis. Admittedly, his only real stern test so far has been against Tottenham but his side came through that game with a win and a clean sheet. What more can he do?
History stands on the side of Arsenal ahead of this game. The Gunners have won both of their two previous FA Cup home games against Manchester United. Emery's side have also only lost 2 home games in all competitions this season. Interestingly, the Gunners have gone on to win this competition on the three previous occasions that they have eliminated United.
There is some optimism for fans of the Red Devils mind. United have won 13 of their last 14 FA Cup 4th Round ties. It's also a competition that Alexis Sanchez loves. The Chilean attacker has scored 9 goals and grabbed 9 assists in his 19 FA Cup appearances for both United and Arsenal. What's that famous saying about former players coming back to haunt their old clubs? I'm not sure there's a lot to separate these two in this game but I think Arsenal might sneak it.

    Chelsea vs Tottenham
The second of the two EFL Cup Semi-Finals is coming up tonight when Chelsea play Tottenham in this 7:45pm kick-off at Stamford Bridge. Spurs come into this game with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg but will be without their two big names in Harry Kane and Dele Alli due to injury.
Chelsea are navigating through some deep issues at the moment and it appears Maurizio Sarri has put the first nail in his managerial coffin at the club by slating the player commitment levels. Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte found out before him that it's a cardinal sin to criticise the Chelsea players... no matter how much they deserve it. It also doesn't help when you're playing Eden Hazard as a false nine and N'golo Kante far too high up the pitch.
Tottenham are plagued by injuries and selection problems. As mentioned, both Kane and Alli are out with injuries. Son Heung-min is also unavailable due to his involvement in the Asia Cup with South Korea. On the positive front, Lucas Moura and Moussa Sissoko could be back involved in the action.
The Blues come into this game knowing that a defeat would be the first time they had lost three consecutive games in a season to the an opponent since they did so against Manchester City back in the 2012/13 season. On the flip side, Tottenham are looking to win four games in a row against Chelsea for the first time since 1963.
I'm feeling that Chelsea could win this and take it to penalties. Mauricio Pochettino still has the ability to get his team to perform even without the big names. Chelsea seem at sixes and sevens right now. The club has struggled at home recently with just one win in their last three at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham might be weak but will be tough to break down. A moment of genius from Hazard is all it takes though.

I went to the AFC Wimbledon V Fleetwood match last night. It's probably the worst game I have ever seen, and AFC were simply awful. No ideas, no pace, nervy at the back. The first pass was backwards, there was nothing going forward. Fleetwood weren't much better but did have a bit more about them.
I think they got their footballing style from Centre Court down the road. You felt like you were watching tennis not football. It's amazing how poor the  standard is, and it makes you realise how technically bad we are at this level.
On the plus side, the fans were nice to chat to, and the liver, bacon & mash at the Fay Boy's cafe was worth making the trip for.

I think you'd have to be a bit mad to put money on this match, to be honest. With a 9-0 first leg in the books, you just have no idea who shows up on either side.
In my strategy, nothing under 3.50 or so is ever worth taking, on any match. In this kind of match, City *might* turn up and cover a handicap, but is it really worth the risk at even money? I'd be far more inclined to take the home side at 16.00...it's as probable as any other result, and for a great profit.
To be clear, I'm not taking anything here. I'm saying that under these crazy circumstances, you can't honestly say that any punt is more than 50-50 Taking a bet at 2.00 is a coin flip. Using my logic, if it's really a coin flip, go for the better odds.

    Burton vs Manchester City
The second leg of this one-sided EFL Cup Semi-Final between League One side Burton and Premier League title contenders Manchester City is coming up this Wednesday night in a 7:45pm kick-off from the Pirelli Stadium. Can the home team turn around the 9-0 deficit?...
Burton haven't really done themselves any favours in the build-up to this if you ask me. I know they were on a hiding to nothing but they've been so defeatist since the draw was made. Nigel Clough has just come across as accepting they'd get pummelled but I still think even with the gap in class that the score-line was poor for the Brewers.
Manchester City will be looking to give some reserve and youth players a run around. Obviously, I'm not expecting another 9-0 score-line but the rhetoric from Clough is once again really pessimistic so I wouldn't be surprised if Pep Guardiola saw his team stick 4 or 5 on Burton here.
Not much detail needed for this preview. I can see the away side winning by a fair margin so backing a heavy handicap seems like the clear choice. I'd say a -2 handicap at least is worth chasing plus a pick of a fringe player bagging a goal because there could be a few here.

    Bolton vs West Brom
Yes, that's right, we have another Monday night football from the Championship. This week it's the turn of relegation-threatened Bolton and promotion-chasing West Brom who exchange blows in this absorbing clash tonight at the University of Bolton Stadium in an 8pm kick-off.
Bolton are once again involved at the wrong end of the table and it looks like this might be it for Phil Parkinson's side. The Trotters have been fighting against the odds for a while now but with the club in 23rd place, 3 points adrift of safety, and even Ipswich starting to catch them now it seems a bit hopeless. That being said, a win here tonight could potentially move them out of the bottom three.
West Brom have done well under Darren Moore but their inability to get wins in matches like this where they are expected to win is hampering their promotion efforts. The Baggies are in 4th place but it's close at the top. A win would have them knocking on the door of the top two. A defeat would leave them just inside the play-offs.
Wanderers are immediately up against it here. They are without the injured Norwich loanee Yanic Wildschut and Everton loanee Joe Williams. It's now just 1 win in their last 17 league games. The 6-0 hammering away to Hull just a few weeks ago will still be hurting.
Moore's side will welcome Matt Phillips back but Jake Livermore is still banned. The club is also without a win in their last three league games but the 1-1 draw at home against Norwich in their last league match will leave them with positives to look back on heading into this game.
If Bolton fans are looking for sparks of hope then they will find them in the head-to-head record. Bolton have only lost 1 of their last 13 home games in all competitions against West Brom. West Brom have also won just once in their last 10 meetings with Bolton. We should also go on to mention that Bolton love playing on a Monday night. The club has taken 17 of a possible 21 points from matches played on a Monday.
Is it worth using these historical statistics to back Bolton here? I'm not sure. I think this Bolton side is really struggling right now. At a push, I could see them snatching a point against a West Brom side that aren't quite on their game right now. A win is too much of a stretch though. I still think West Brom will sneak a win but it'll be tight.

Today, however, he has the opportunity to return to the three-pointer after a long while as he faces a subordinate team. From the most commercial points with a West Brom victory

    Norwich vs Birmingham
The Championship Friday night game serves up a mouth-watering encounter when promotion-chasing Norwich host play-off contenders Birmingham in a 7:45pm kick-off at Carrow Road. Neither side is experiencing the best form right now so the result here could play a pivotal role in how their seasons shape up between now and May.
Norwich are without a win in four league games now. It's a run of poor form that has seen Daniel Farke's side drop out of the automatic promotion spots. The positive stance on this is that the Canaries have only lost 1 of their matches during that run and it's now only 1 defeat in the league since 6th October, 2018. Win here and things will be back to normal.
Birmingham are finally looking like a really solid team under Garry Monk. The Blues are in 8th place and just 4 points outside the play-offs. Things could have been so much better though with the club now having gone three league games without a victory. Just 2 goals scored in their last 3 league games shows where the problem lies. The poor defensive record of Norwich might be a chance for the Blues to resolve that issue.
The Canaries boast one of the best home records in the division so I'm thinking that backing them to win might be the sensible choice. Birmingham have quiet an average away record and they might find this trip too much. Norwich might not have been winning games lately but they're still making themselves hard to beat and that could prove the difference here.

I'm going for o2.5 goals here in the Fulham/Spurs game
Spurs are super thin, sure.  But they are not out of options fully.  They will need guys like Alli, Lamella and Erickson to step up.  The loss of Son and Sissoko are really going to leave them super short in the mf and will make them susceptible on the counter for sure.  Sessegnon on the bench today but Babel playing and while he was terrible in the premier league, he was actually quite good in Turkey.  We'll see.
Spurs also always have a chance to score on a set piece.  Trippier is outstanding and Erickson no slouch.  Spurs need points here as they have three teams breathing down their neck for the top 4. They have  a lot of games coming up too.
I think we get an open game 2-2 final.

Spurs have slipped back to around 1.7 and for me that is not big enough to back them.  As @neilovan says, Kane and Son will be big misses, although I still think spurs are more than capable of winning this one against a poor Fulham who concede goals for fun.  Llorente will provide a focal point up front, and should be supported by Alli and Eriksen and I think that front 3 are still better than what most PL teams will have put out against Fulham.
Fulham have only won 3 PL games all season, while spurs have won 10 out of 12 away, so the gulf in class is massive.  Yes spurs lack a replacement for Kane, but teams like Chelsea seem to be able to beat lesser opposition without a decent striking option, and I see no reason why spurs shouldn't be able to do the same today.  But I wanted at least 1.9 before I put my money where my mouth is!
I'm going to follow @StevieDay1983 and his Man City on the handicap instead.  I think 4-0 minimum so going with the -2 handicap also.

    Fulham v Tottenham
What a huge opportunity for Fulham today. If Spurs have one glaring weakness, it is the lack of depth in the squad.
Today missing both Kane and Son, with no like for like replacements. For me Son is a bigger miss than Kane. He has been brilliant. The man has a huge engine (in a league of big engines), and can run really hard for an entire match.  It is what a defender hates ... A guy that keeps upping the ante, increasing the pressure, and who eventually runs them into the ground.
It has a duel effect in opening space up for Kane. WHo in the SPurs lineup can step up and fill the gap?
Look out for a shock today. DOn't think there will be too many goals here, and Fulham may walk away with a shock win.
