The Brigadier Posted January 29, 2021 Share Posted January 29, 2021 Unfortunately, we’ve lost the excellent Cheltenham card tomorrow although hopefully the BHA will re-open the feature races over the next week. So that leaves Doncaster as the sole jumps fixture on Saturday where the ground will ride fairly testing, with the official ground as soft. Here’s my look at the three ITV races :- 2.05 Doncaster 2m 128yds Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle (Grade 2) The key for me here is the fact that Nico De Boinville , who’s ridden Marie’s Rock on all four of her career runs, has jumped ship to ride stable companion Floressa. They actually met first time out this season at Newbury where the dogs were certainly barking about Marie’s Rock who was well supported going off the 2/1 favourite whilst Floressa went off at 10/1. The latter made all to win with her stable companion some 12 ¼ lengths behind having pulled extremely hard and not getting the clearest of runs. She’s got the hood on today and a first time tongue tie but with De Boinville getting off her I have to be with Floressa who’s ultra game and from a pace angle is the only front runner in the race. I expect her to make all and lead them all a merry dance. Her biggest danger may actually not be her stable mate but the Paul Nicholl’s trained Miranda who is receiving 4lb from Floressa and has shown decent handicap form this season. FLORESSA (below) 2 points win 7/4 Bet365 2.40 Doncaster 3m 84yds Albert Bartlett River Don Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) You won’t find a more competitive novice hurdle this side of the big Spring festivals with bookmakers going 5/1 the field in places. A case can actually be made for nearly everything in the contest with perhaps the key piece of form coming at Cheltenham last month when Pats Fancy was runner up to Make Good, Ask A Honey Bee was a couple of lengths back in third with Ashtown Lad, who went off favourite a well beaten 5th and Took The Lot even further behind in 8th. Bobhopeornohope is on a hat-trick following two novice victories and is stepping up to 3m for the first time under rules and is another with claims. Paul Nicholl’s Flash Collonges looked good winning at Wincanton three weeks ago and is another stepping up in trip. Nicky Henderson’s representative is Emir Sacree who won a handicap at Ascot when seemingly unfancied at 11/1 and as that was his first run for 635 days you can expect him to improve and feature here stepping up in trip. It’s wide open and I would suggest keeping stakes small and to play each way with firms paying enhanced places. I’ll just go with Rebecca Curtis’s Pats Fancy as he did actually finish ahead of 3 of these on soft ground and over 3 miles last time so we know he stays well. PATS FANCY 1 point each way @ 13/2 1/5th odds 1234 William Hill 3.15 Doncaster 3m Sky Bet Handicap Chase I previewed this in depth earlier in the week and unfortunately one of my two ante-post picks Kapcorse hasn’t declared. That’s the nature of the game with Ante-Post betting I’m afraid! I am however happy to stick with my selection Cap Du Nord who could be thrown in here on his recent 2nd to Royal Paigaille at Kempton (form worked out very well). His trainer Christian William actually won this race as a jockey for Paul Nicholls on Big Fella Thanks. The handicapper has raised him 6lb for the Kempton run and another 3lb for Royal Paigaille winning again since (though that rise doesn’t come into effect here). Canelo ties in with Cap Du Nord’s form and for me is the biggest danger. His trainer has a good record in this race. The best outsider for me may well be The Butcher Said but he’ll need to jump better than he did last time out when well backed at Newcastle.
