Nimes vs Toulouse

Ligue 1 offers up some intriguing games this week. It was very difficult to decide which one to look at in more depth because a few home teams are boasting decent value. In the end, I chose to go for this encounter between Nimes and Toulouse that kicks off at 7pm BST on Saturday evening at the Stade des Costieres. Both teams are in mid-table positions but a win here could see them fly up the table.

Nimes finished in a satisfactory 9th place last season and the board will want the club to progress up the table this season. Bernard Blaquart begins his fifth season in charge at the club and they've had an adequate start. A poor first two games that produced defeats against PSG away and Nice at home have been contrasted by an undefeated run of three league games that consisted of a 2-2 draw away to Monaco, 3-0 win at home to Brest, and 0-0 draw away to Dijon. Back-to-back clean sheets is encouraging heading into this game.

Toulouse fans have a lot to be optimistic about. Alain Casanova's men are 10th in the table but just 2 points off the European qualification spots. Inconsistent form is the current issue. A 1-1 draw against Brest was followed by a narrow 1-0 win at home to Dijon. The 4-0 pasting at the hands of PSG was not unexpected. A 2-0 win over Amiens was then followed up by a 2-2 draw with St Etienne. It's hard to pin down quite what Toulouse should be expecting to do this season. They remain an unknown quantity.

The home team come into this game having scored in 15 of their last 16 home games. When you consider that Toulouse have also scored in 6 of their last 7 matches it suggests we could see goals. Nimes appear to have shown more potential at home this season than Toulouse have away. It'll be a tight one but I think a narrow home win is looking a realistic outcome.
