Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 16:00 Carlisle 0.5pts e/w Gold Futures 10/1 Coral (BOG) 2lbs higher than the last win but certainly with a chance of a place. 2/3 (66%) at the distance and 1/1 at the course, Gold Futures might not have been suited by the track last time and if previous form correlates with a track at which the selection has been successful before, 10/1 could appear value.

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 4.10 WOLVES MASOMAH @ 8/1 Bet365 BOG If this one is ready to go today it's in with a cracking chance. First time his mark has dropped below three figure for over 4 years. Has run well off a break a few times in the past and some of these look like they may need a drop in weight before they win again.

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 Wolverhampton 2.00 Royal Mizar (4/1 bet365 bog) If non runner wolverhampton 2.35 Swift Act This Wolverhampton race isn’t a strong one being largely contested by a bunch of maidens. My selection is one of those being a 17 race maiden, but as a 3 year old he was contesting class 4 races at Newbury and Newmarket. Now a 5 year old, he was only beaten a short head last time out at Lingfield. An effort which gives him the top ATR LTO speed rating of today’s race and 2nd rated overall based on best speed figures.

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 Wolverhampton 5:10 - La Estatua WIN @ 12/1 Betfred David Evans is well known for doing well on Monday's, and in what looks a weak maiden I will take a chance on this horse. The 3 year old filly is much more exposed than some of her rivals but has a couple of placed efforts, which include a 3rd here at this track. No show the last twice but the jockey takes off 3 pounds and I think she can hit the frame.

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 3.15 Lingfield: The Last Bridge 7/2 bet365/WH Tricky old day with a tough looking card at Carlisle and not many runners on bad ground here at Lingfield. Anyway i'm going with a horse who loves soft ground and stays forever and could be well handicapped. The Last Bridge has been chasing this last year but has a lower mark over hurdles so a good move by the trainer Sue Johnson to find a poor race. Son Richard rides and these pair don't mess about, they run to win with very limited ammo so although this could be a warm up race for a chase around the corner i suspect it's a shrewd bit of placing. The horse takes plenty of encouragement so don't worry if its being coshed on the first circuit!!

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 4.10 Wolverhampton: Class 2 Handicap, 5 furlongs - Masamah has been off since August, though done well fresh in the past. Age doesn’t seem to slow him down, he ran with credit in big handicaps last season. Acted on Tapeta at Meydan. - Zac Brown is much improved on the AW this winter. Won with loads in hand at Chelmsford, couldn’t quite follow up at Southwell. 10lb higher now but remains open to further improvement. - Boom The Groom was extremely consistent this winter, and not disgraced last two either since success at Lingfield. 2lb above last winning mark. Probably slightly better over 6f. - Steelriver ran well lately over further. Fair third over 6f last month. May find this minimum distance too short. - Basil Berry went agonizingly close at Chelmsford last month. Up in the mark and career highest required, Can follow-on, but drop in trip a slight worry. - Royal Bajan posted career best when winning at Chelmsford earlier this month. Gutsy 5f specialist on the AW. New career best required again. - Mappin Time didn’t travel well at Chelmsford lto, yet finished race well coming off half year long break. Has never won handicap off mark as high as the current one. - Megaleka ran out a fine 2nd behind Royal Bajan lto, needs to improve again to win off career highest mark. - Long Awaited was third behind Royal Bajan lto on first AW start. Hasn’t won since 2012 and still 1lb higher than last winning mark. - Invincible Ridge is a fair All-Weather performer, ran consistently well in recent weeks, but is 8lb above last winning mark which came in class 5 handicap. - Dynamo Walt improved this winter and won a couple of races. Consistent but loads to find on form with most rivals in this field. Verdict: As open a race as it gets. Zac Brown may be a fair favourite and has potential to improve further, but now ten pounds above his last winning mark, he to do progress quite allot to overcome a career highest mark in this quality field. He looks short enough in the betting for that reason. You can make a case for most other runners. Rojal Bajan's recent success is very strong form and there is no reason why he shouldn't go well yet again. The second and third of that race, Megaleka and Long Awaited meet the rival on slightly better weight terms today and should go close as well. Boom The Groom has been very consistent this winter, and if the trip isn't too sharp for him, then he'll right there when it matters too. The class act in this field is Masamah. A former Group 2 winner, he has ran well despite his age in big handicaps last season. He may not be quite as good as he once was, but with a slightly slipping mark and a very good 5lb apprentice in the saddle, he must have a very good chance to run a big race today - if he is fit. That is the main question mark. He has done very well as a fresh horse in the past, though the older horses get, the longer it takes to get them fit. I take a gamble on him, however, that Marco Botti knows how to keep this veteran healthy and fit and I suspect he is not in the race to just make the numbers. He looks a big price and shouldn't have an issue with the Tapeta surface, since he acted on the All-Weather before and finished in the money at Meydan's Tapeta track. Masamah @ 8/1 VC

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 13:35 Cagnes-sur-Mer: BOWLING GREEN @ 6/1 Bet365 The Fabrice Vermeulen-trained BOWLING GREEN (4) has the best recent form on the back of his 2nd over a slightly shorter trip at the same fibresand track last month when had five of today's re-opposing rivals behind and is taken to go one place better under Roberto-Carlos Montenegro.

Re: Nap of the Day - Monday 16th Feb 2015 Wolv 4.40 - The Blue Dog - win at 3/1 bog bet365 Fillies handicap - class 5, 12 furlongs Only 6 left in now and you'd have to think that 4 of them look like no hopers The current is favourite is Shuriken and she looks like a case of being favourite because she's not had the opportunity yet to prove how useless she is whereas most of the others already have. She comes back from a four month lay off and was beaten 17 lengths in a Pontefractmaiden when last since. On the plus side her best run was on debut so it might just be that she's best fresh and a top AW jock has been booked My selection is a known quantity being 8 years old. After 3 wins last January she went quiet for the rest of the year and was mostly well beaten. But she's now slipped back below her last winning mark and her last 2 runs have been more encouraging, finishing 3rd both times. Drops back from a class 4 today and is a CD on the old surface here
