'Zahxit' has been on the cards for many a year now but it's simply a case of a big 6 team putting in a big enough bid. So far that hasn't happened and the club wont sell unless we get the proper money for him (£75M - £80M). If he goes it'll be dogfights agogo and perhaps relegation unless we make good aquisitions. The playing squad overall is experienced and mentally strong but it is ageing and we need more young and energetic players with attacking quality (both creating and scoring).
Brighton clearly the better team for two thirds of the match but if anything your goal caused Palace to stand up and be counted. Brighton are 'vertically intergrated' under Potter. GK Ryan, both CB's, and most midfielders are comfortable with the ball at feet and they can move the ball from back to front very quickly. Their high energy style is impressive but it doesn't look like they can sustain it for the whole game and that's perhaps another reason why Palace were so strong from 70' onwards as the Seagulls had exhausted themselves.
The Hughton / Pulis / Allardyce methods are somewhat out of fashion right now and that's essentially because everyone wants to be like Pep - he has heavily influenced the footballing culture in this country. If you're on a low budget then hardwork and organisation still gets results as we can see from the likes of Hodgson, Dyche and Bruce. The new 'hybrid' managers like Wilder and Potter and interesting as their teams are organised and defensively strong but also play attractive football with energy and intensity.
Feeding it pilchards is a step-up from the Charlton fans who tried to attack it

Oh my days, that post tickled me!
You know backing the draw in derby matches is always a wise shout, especially when the two sides are so evenly balanced coming into it. An interesting question about Palace. I still feel they don't have enough strength to be considered safe from relegation until they reach that 40 point mark. A run of bad results can drag them back into it and Roy is doing an incredible job with what he has. It's small margins in the Premier League though.
Re: Hughton, he's an odd one. Apparently, we went for him before going for Harris but he rejected us on two counts. First, he feels he can get a Premier League job. Second, we shunned him for OIe Gunnar Solskjaer and Alan Shearer when we appointed Solskjaer. No surprise he told us to do one, if true!

That could pay off as Colchester will be pumped up at the start. Liverpool were unlucky last night not to get on the score sheet early doors.
I'm going for a sell of first corners with Colchester and Oxford.. I would have filled my boots last night, had I of stuck with my gut feeling on Liverpool.

Couldn't agree more Stevie d. The problems lie at the top, added that there is no long term strategy at UTD, then they aren't going anywhere for a while.
Poch won't leave Spurs now will he? Spurs are on the brink of becoming a bigger club than Utd. I wouldn't fancy any of that lot if I was a Utd fan. Get Eddie Howe in!
They need a manager who can play a modern, atttacking style of football.

Interesting game tonight. We have seen a marked change in style now that GP has taken over at Brighton, and "Potter all" is having an effect. Good wins over Spurs and Arsenal were evident of that, and it's nice to see more attacking play with goals.
I have a feeling, based on nothing more than my guts, that we will be in for a good game tonight.

A good write up @StevieDay1983 and a winning double for you there. Although I think your trousers will need a wash after being stained in creosote, from sitting on the fence ?
@Mindfulness You seriously make me laugh with all this stuff you dream up of. I wish I was in Havana, but it's more likely to be Brixham these days.
A fair result in the end, thought either team could have won it. And I do love to watch the Homesdale End in full flow, hats off to them for a great atmosphere.
All of my selections came in. I am having better luck with spread betting as it makes me analyse the game in a different way.
I have meant to post some stuff recently, but work is getting in the bloody way!
    A couple of things tho
Zaha,-- will he go in Jan, and if so can Palace survive without him
Potterball,-- interesting to see the change of style. Reminded me of when Gus came to the club and wanted to play that way, but didn't have the quality of player.
Chris Hughton -- Everyone was surprised to see him go, but he hasn't got another job yet. Is his style too negative these days?
Anyways, I have a trawler full of rotting pilchards, so I'll bring it to Croydon to feed that oversized sparrow that flies around Smellhurst before every match ?

    Crystal Palace vs Brighton
OK, @Mindfulness and @Tiffy, that's enough. Save it for the game! I can smell the animosity! That's right! It's the M23 derby tonight between Crystal Palace and Brighton at 7:45pm GMT at Selhurst Park. Is there a more randomly viscous non-derby derby game in world football? I don't know but it's certainly going to be full of feist and fight tonight that's for sure.
Crystal Palace are riddled with injuries and suspensions to their defensive department heading into this game. Roy Hodgson will have to deal with the absence of Jeffrey Schlupp, Patrick Van Aanholt, Joel Ward, and Mamadou Sakho. The Eagles are defying the odds this season in 10th place and just 4 points behind the automatic European qualification spots. Usually, it's their home form that has been their strongest asset but this season they've earned just as many points on the road as they have at home. Their form at the moment is superb with three clean sheets on the bounce in the league. Unfortunately, if you're expecting a goal fest then you may be disappointed. Only 13 league goals have been scored by teams at Selhurst Park this season.
Brighton will also be without a number of key players including Dale Stephens, Solly March, and Jose Izquierdo all out. The Seagulls have only won 1 of their last 5 league games leaving them in 13th place in the league and just 4 points above the drop. Manager Graham Potter will be coming into this game aware that his side have only won 2 of their 8 away league games this season. However, performances in the last two league games have been greatly improved with the 2-1 win over Arsenal and the 2-2 draw with Wolves
This game is a tougher one to call than I was anticipating. I did think Crystal Palace were certain for the win but after consideration I'm actually looking to back a draw. I think the absentees for the home side are a concern and at a stadium where the odd goal has decided things a lot this season I think both teams will fight out a close game with a 1-1 my preferred correct score choice.

    Brighton vs Wolves
The Premier League action continues with a tricky game to predict on Sunday when Brighton host Wolves in a 4:30pm GMT kick-off from the Amex Stadium. Both of these clubs have had reasons to feel positive heading into the festive schedule recently. The home side bagged a stunning win over Arsenal in midweek and the away side are knocking on the door of the top four. Who will prevail here?
Brighton fans are having a rollercoaster of a season so far. Graham Potter has oddly been handed a whopping contract extension after a seemingly encouraging start to his tenure at the club. The Seagulls are 13th in the league table and 4 points above the relegation zone. Clearly, Tony Bloom and the board are happy with the work Potter is doing including the playing philosophy he's instilled within the club. Is it a naive decision? Before the midweek win, Brighton had lost their previous 3 league games. However, they do come into this game having won 3 of their last 4 home league matches.
Wolves appear to have found the right balance between succeeding in the league and having a proper go at the Europa League. Nuno Santo's side are 5th in the league table and only 6 points off the pace of the Champions League qualification spots. The club has also qualified for the last 32 of the Europa League with a game to spare in the group stage. After a slow start to their league game, Wanderers are now 10 league games undefeated. It's also only 1 defeat on the road in the league, although they have draw 4 matches away as well.
It's interesting to see how much Brighton have actually dominated this fixture over recent years. The Seagulls have only lost 1 of the last 10 encounters between these two teams. That being said, I'm swaying towards a draw in this one. Why? Well, not only have Wolves notched up a majority of draws in their away games but 5 of the last 10 matches between these two have ended in a draw too. I was tempted to back a Wolves win but I do think Brighton will be buoyant after that Arsenal win and hold out.

I think Brighton & Hove Albion have big chance here, some Arsenal players doesnt look so motivated, for example Torreira which body-language is my like when you are playing this weekend on draw on Everton ??.At other side Arsenal have problem with creating chances from on play, their defence especially when they are defending counter-attacks are so poor.I mean on positioning and team comunication of Mustafi and Chambers yestrday. Also I wanna to say something about Xhaka. So bad anticipation.I dont think Ljunberg will fix something, especially I mean on defence. If they want to do something they need to play with 3 CB in system 3-4-1-2 with Bellerini and Kolasinac who can play very good on wide position.

Great to have a easy win for the big price Nap's Hampton and also the 5/1 shots Stockport on Saturday to make it a profitable afternoon. There aren't too many games this mid-week, but one on Monday has caught my eye.
Hitchin v Lowestoft (BetVictor Southern Premier League Central)
Lowestoft are having a bit of an injury crisis at the moment and they had another player injured on Saturday in their 4-1 defeat at Tamworth. You add this to their shocking home record and it really ought to be a comfortable win for the home side. Lowestoft have lost all their away games apart from beating Stratford. Not only that but they have conceded 25 times in those 7 defeats and just one of those was by less than 2 goals and that came back on 10th August. Hitchin have only lost 1 of their last 9 although strangely it did come against bottom side Leiston, but otherwise they have been good and were impressive in beating Barwell 4-1 on Saturday. Hitchin should be able to cover the handicap and if they come out of the blocks like they did on Saturday I can also see them winning at HT and FT.

6 home PL teams are odds on in their matches this week.  You just know at least one of them is going to fail to win and ruin an acca bet!  I'd say spurs and Chelsea look the safest bets to win.  The Chelsea/Spurs to win double comes in at around 1.8 which I will have a small interest in.
I have a funny feeling that Brighton could get something at Liverpool who keep winning but haven't looked convincing for a few games, and were flat in what I saw of their CL game in midweek.  Not brave enough to put any money on it though!
I also wouldn't be surprised if Leicester didn't win (they have to stop winning sooner or later), and perhaps Villa will also be capable of getting something at Man U.

Personally, I don't think it will affect betting at all. You are more likely to get the correct outcome. Isn't it better to lose a bet to a correct decision than lose a bet because of an incorrect decision. As a Welshman and Cardiff City fan I can only say how much poor referee decisions have robbed us of what we've deserved over the years. Going back to Joe Jordan's handball against Wales in 1977 that stopped us from reaching the 1978 World Cup to the amount of awful referee decisions that contributed towards Cardiff getting relegated.
I absolutely back it. On a betting perspective, I think it actually adds more drama. The anticipation of finding out what a decision is. Too often as a player and a manager myself I've been on the wrong end of an injustice and if VAR can reduce those injustices by even 5% then I'm all for it.

    Valencia vs Chelsea
The Champions League action continues tonight with La Liga side Valencia hosting Premier League club Chelsea in a 5:55pm GMT kick-off at the Mestalla. Group H remains in the balance and the results tonight could have a huge bearing on who qualifies for the last 16 and who will have to console themselves with a venture into the Europa League after finishing third.
Valencia are the team currently in third place but they are there on goal difference. Head coach Albert Celades has done a solid job since coming in for the outgoing Marcelino and he'll be hoping his team can all but seal their spot in the knockout phase with victory here having beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge by a 1-0 score-line earlier in the campaign. Valencia have played 9 English sides in European competition at home and have defeated 7 of them. Chelsea and West Brom are the two teams they are yet to beat on their own patch. The Spanish side have won 3 of their last 4 home games in Europe.
Chelsea come into this game knowing a win or draw will put them in a great position to qualify for the next phase with a trip to bottom-placed Lille awaiting them in their final fixture as Valencia must face a clash with group leaders Ajax. The Blues have only lost 1 of their last 11 away games in Spain and could record three consecutive away wins in the Champions League for the first time since 2003/04.
In terms of the head-to-head record, it heavily favours Chelsea. The Blues have won 3, drawn 3, and lost just 1 of their games against Valencia in the Champions League. However, that single win was in their last meeting. Frank Lampard's side come into this game knowing they are undefeated at the Mestalla in the Champions League. The absence of Antonio Rudiger could be an influencing factor but I think a draw is a fair shout here. Not confident enough to back them for the win at the price being offered.

    Accrington Stanley vs Bolton
The League One match of the week for our preview is the clash between Accrington Stanley and Bolton that kicks off on Saturday afternoon at 3pm GMT from the Crown Ground. Both of these sides are battling at the wrong end of the league table and a win here for either team could go a long way to boosting their hopes of survival as they head into a busy festive schedule.
Accrington Stanley are sat in 19th place and just 2 points above the relegation zone. Manager John Coleman remains one of the longest serving managers in the Football League. Unfortunately, this season hasn't gone overly well for the club and with no win from their last four league games and no goals scored during those matches it's looking pretty grim for the Lancashire-based team. An FA Cup 1st Round defeat to League Two side Crewe at home hasn't done the morale any good either. Only winning 2 of their 7 home games this season isn't great.
Bolton have had a diabolical season compared to Accrington. The club was threatened with being kicked out of the Football League and began the season with a 12 point deduction for entering administration. Things have slowly improved over recent weeks though. Keith Hill was appointed as manager at the end of August, the club were busy bringing in experienced faces on transfer deadline day and they have won their last three league games to finally move into a positive points total. Daryl Murphy and Luke Murphy have been key players in the improvement in form of the Wanderers.
I initially read the ELO ratings and thought it might be worth backing the home side here at the price being offered but Bolton are starting to click now. Three wins on the bounce against decent sides has given the club hope that they might actually survive this season. Had they not been given the points deduction they'd only be in the relegation zone on goal difference. Not bad when you consider they played a fair few games with just their youth players. I think at the price being offered they're worth backing here and Daryl Murphy is worth backing to score any time. Accrington lost to Rotherham to see us win both bets last weekend. Can they come good again this week and collapse at home this time?

    England vs Montenegro
Well, it was all looking so easy for England just a couple of games ago but suddenly things in their Euro 2020 qualification group have just cranked up a notch after the disappointing 2-1 loss to Czech Republic. In this home game against Montenegro that kicks off on Thursday night at 7:45pm GMT at Wembley only a win will do but is it a foregone conclusion?
England were cruising with 5 wins from their opening 5 group games but the defeat to Czech Republic has seen them stutter. Gareth Southgate's men are 3 points clear of 2nd placed Czech Republic and 4 points ahead of 3rd placed Kosovo so there's margin for error but a shock loss here could be something that the Three Lions might not recover from. The alleged training ground fracas between Raheem Sterling and Joe Gomez earlier in the week hasn't helped proceedings. Sterling has been dropped for this game and Southgate has admitted he'll pick a very young side for this game. Is he inviting trouble? The fact England have won their last 17 home matches in the European Championship and World Cup qualifiers has me thinking they should be OK here.
Montenegro have had a torrid qualification campaign. Head coach Faruk Hadzibegic has already seen his team eliminated from the competition as they lie in 4th place and only saved from the embarrassment of bottom place due to a better goal difference than bottom-placed Bulgaria. It's been over a year since Montenegro's last competitive win which was a 4-1 victory over Lithuania in the UEFA Nations League back on 14th October, 2018. That's a run of 9 competitive games without a win.
These two sides have met 5 times in total with England never losing and having won the previous two meetings. Montenegro are struggling to score goals right now having failed to hit the net in their last 4 competitive games. If there's going to be value in this game then backing an impotent Montenegro side to fail to score will be the target. I'm not sure how many goals England will score. Southgate will want a reaction after the Czech Republic game but at international level there are no easy matches. Montenegro could make this hard work for England and without Sterling they've lost a major focal point. This is tougher to predict than initially assumed.

I never understand why tipsters say they won't bet on the FA Cup. I love betting on the FA Cup as it offers the chance to land some lumpy prices as I have done over the years. The 1st Round is my favourite weekend of the season and hopefully I can make it a profitable one. I have 7 singles and a 5 team acca across the weekend.
    Dulwich Hamlet v Carlisle
Gloucester City might be my main team, but I have been going to Dulwich games for around 10 years now. At that point they were lucky to get 300 people through the turnstiles and now you can sometimes add a 0 on to that figure. This season alone they are averaging nearly 2000 for their league games and not surprisingly Friday night's match is a sell out. Fortunately I have been able to get hold of a ticket so will be there hopefully to witness a upset and Dulwich's first ever visit to the 2nd round. I think there is a fair chance that I might. On the face of it backing a team who haven't won a league game since August 24th two divisions below their opponents might not be wise, but Dulwich are nowhere near as bad as that stat suggests. I put them up in the last round when they beat Havant who are the best team in their division so that was no mean feat. Carlisle come into this having only won 2 away games in the league all season and they were both against teams below them in the table. Their win against Macclesfield last week was their first in 7 and given the troubles with them at the moment that is hardly proof they are in good form again. They will not fancy this one bit. Champion Hill is very compact so the crowd will be very close to the action add into the fact that the game is on the BBC so the Carlisle players will know the pressure is on them. Gavin Rose has always set Dulwich up to play football the right way and if they can be clinical in front of goal I am certain they will get the chances to win the game. I think 16/5 (Bet365 and Betfair) is just on the right side of value and hopefully they can get the weekend off to a profitable start.
    Carshalton v Boston
An all Non-League tie here with BetVictor Isthmian Premier Carshalton hosting Natonal League North side Boston. I like the chances of there being an upset here as Carshalton have been hard to beat all season. They have lost just 3 times in the league and only one of those have come in their last 10 although they have drawn their last 5. They have already caused an upset in the previous round having beaten Dagenham & Redbridge so hosting a team from the level below should hold no fears for them. Boston have struggled on their travels in the league and they have only beaten Kettering and AFC Telford away from home. That Telford game was last week, but they clearly have issues away from home given they are unbeaten at home. I think at over 2/1 the home side are value to cause an upset.
    Stourbridge v Eastleigh
I opposed Eastleigh last week given the amount of injuries they had and the fact Harrogate were in decent form, but Harrogate had a bit of a stinker and gifted them 3 of their 4 goals. Even though Stourbridge are two levels below it actually wouldn't surprise me if they give them a harder game than they had last week. Also Eastleigh have looked pretty poor on the road at times this season. Stourbridge have only played 11 league games so far given their cup run and they have lost just twice. Chances are they will be fighting it out for promotion again this season and their current position of 11th is a bit misleading. I think this is one game which will be much closer than the odds and leagues positions suggest.
    Walsall v Darlington
The biggest price selection is Darlington and obviously backing a National League North side to win at a League 2 side should be a big price, but given Walsall's form at the moment Darlington might just be capable of causing an upset. They have lost 6 games on the bounce now and will be coming into this low on confidence. It was a bit disappointing Darlington couldn't beat a 10 man Hereford last week, but it did continue the unbeaten run and they are better than their league position suggests. A risky bet for sure, but I do think they are overpriced to win the game.
    Gateshead v Oldham
Gateshead let me down last Saturday when under performing against Guiseley last week. They hadn't conceded at home for over nine hours and then duly defended badly and let in 3 in one game. They bounced straight back on Tuesday though beating Curzon 3-0. Granted Oldham are going to be at a very different level from Curzon, but they are coming into this game in shocking form and they clearly are one of the worst teams in League 2. They have only won once away all season and in their last 10 games they have only beaten Walsall and Morecombe which doesn't say an awful lot. As long as Gateshead don't defend like they did last week, and the evidence suggests that was a one off, then they have a real chance of causing an upset here in my view.
    Macclesfield v Kingstonian
This game might not even go ahead because of the players strike and it is no surprise that some bookies have stopped betting on the game and that the price of the away side has come in from around 8/1. Kingstonian were one of my ante-post bets in their league this season and they have been frustrating as they haven't won as many matches as they ought to have done, but on their day they are a good side and given all that is going on at Macclesfield it looks a sporting play. Even if the players do get paid they aren't going to be in a good place and if they don't then there must be a chance that Macclesfield play the youth team just to get the game on. If that happens then that Kingstonian price will come in plenty more.
    Wrexham v Rochdale
Rochdale are in the bottom half of League 1 and have lost their last 3 games, but I think they can beat Wrexham here. 2 of those defeats were against top of the table Ipswich and 4th place Oxford. I opposed Wrexham last week, but they beat Bromley thanks to a cracking goal and I do think Wrexham will improve under Dean Keates, but they still have a little way to go and I think they will struggle to beat a League 1 side at the moment. I am surprised that Rochdale are on the drift and they look a good price at odds against.
    FA Cup Acca
I like 5 teams at odds on to win over the weekend. Solihull travel to Oxford City and they ought to have too much for them. Chorley have found life a struggle in the National League and they have started leaking goals again after keeping a few clean sheets. They travel to Mansfield and it would be a surprise if they could get anything out of it. Rotherham's away form is much better than their home form and they can prove to be too strong at Maidenhead. On Sunday Northampton should be more than capable of beating Chippenham and in one of the live games I can see Oxford United easily beating Hayes & Yeading. As an aside it wasn't that long ago I went to watch that game as a league match and now their are 4 levels between them!

    Leicester vs Arsenal
If you thought that first preview was a big call, @thfc, then you're going to love this one. My second preview is the 5:30pm GMT kick-off this Saturday between Leicester and Arsenal at the King Power Stadium. Is it just me or does it feel like it's 2015/16 all over again? Big clubs struggling all over the shop and one team subtly sneaking in under the radar.
Leicester are rolling back the years (well, rolling back a few years) with Brendan Rodgers leading the charge. The Foxes are currently in 3rd place in the Premier League table with 23 points from their 11 league matches thus far. That puts them just 2 points behind second placed Manchester City. 7 wins from their last 9 league games has been the catalyst for this superb start to their season as well as the goals from Jamie Vardy. However, they remain 8 points off the title pace of Liverpool.
Arsenal continue to have their issues under Unai Emery. My hypothesis persists that letting Aaron Ramsey leave was their big mistake. Emery has made a number of rash decisions since including signing David Luiz and not using him as a DM instead of a CB, making Granit Xhaka captain, and substituting Lucas Torreira in games where the player would help to close a game out. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the new captain after Xhaka's moment of (perhaps understandable) madness. Unfortunately, the Gunners are now in 5th place, 6 points behind their opponents coming into this game, and in possession of one of the worst away records in the top flight with just 1 win in their 5 away league matches.
Everything is pointing towards a Leicester win here. The way Leicester are playing this season taps into every weakness this Arsenal side currently displays. The away form of the Gunners is something Emery still hasn't addressed. My mind still boggles at how they spent £75 million on Nicolas Pepe and yet hardly addressed the defensive and mental frailties within the squad. Grab the popcorn because Arsenal Fans TV could be a wild one on Saturday evening.

Expect a low scoring match. Salskier will probably give some of his key players a breather. In addition, United have not conceded a goal yet, scoring just twice in their first three games. This means that all three games ended with a low score and less than two goals

Like, 15 days ago, so today I'll bet on many goals. Lazio very often opens her scoring, scoring comfortably. He has to fight aggressively to get the victory, so he will leave defensive gaps. Both teams can give us goals and a spectacle
