    Don't really understand your question.
For a start, there will not be many 8 horse races with a 7/2 favourite.
If you mean backing each way .. £100 Each way = £200 staked ... it would return (at your suggested odds 4.5 [7/2 old money]) £450 for the win  (as you say £350 profit) ... and the place would usually pay 1/5th,  so 7/2 pays 7/10 and returns £170 (£70 profit). So, if you only place, a £200 bet would return £170 (place part) and a loss of £30.

I’m trying to get out of the habit of having more than one horse unless it’s a big field or I really cannot split the two and they are favourable prices. Not only does it lessen your profit/loss total if you’re on a losing run, but it just annoys me that I’m picking more than one selection in what is usually not that big a field . Same with ew at small odds of 4/1-5/1. I think the fear of losing can be a problem. It’s a hard game to master is horse racing punting .

The bit about 3 of the runners resulting in a small loss was the least appealing bit for me. I agree that 5 out of 7 runners seems too many but for the 3 in question I'd either not back them at all or at least have them as a "saver" for break even at worst.

I would have a rethink. Backing 5 runners in a 7 horse race, that is just 'fear of losing' rather than trying to win. Sometimes a race lends itself to backing more than 1 runner but too much diversification will only lead to a guaranteed long term loss. More successful people than myself have said 'diversification is only an attempt at avoiding failure'. You staked 8.5pts and 'found' the winner with 3pts at 3.3 (9.9 return). That is like backing a 1/6 winner, would you stake 8.5pts on a 1/6 chance ? If the race looks that difficult, I would move on to another race. Bookmakers have to take bets, but we can wait for the next race etc.

HaHa, I've had a tough week or so, so don't go mad. Backed Diamond Ranger LTO at 6/1 and IMO it wasn't given 100% . So, I'm back in again. Trainer in decent form so fingers x'd.

6.00 Kemp - Granary Queen - 9/2 bet365 - Was given far too much to do a week ago at Lingfield (finished 2nd) when Favourite by jockey G.Downing. Change of jockey today (connections not pleased ?), can hopefully go one better and win today. Has been nibbled in the market.

Justcallmepete in the 12.50 was unlucky last time, slowly away and then carred right before finishing well to get third, a couple of next time out winner have come out of that race, one of them in a Class 3 race, so as long as the drop back to 6f doesnt inconvenience him then Justcallmepete should go close. currently trading around the 3.35 mark n the exchanges.............? Won, in running backers in clover as he hit 500 before finishing like a train and getting up on the line.

    Good luck everyone.

Out all day, but hope to be back in time for wolves 6.50. I'm working on a system called Alexander method. It is physics based, this race might not be suitable we'll see. Nice winner at Dundalk in sandcastle last night although not a system runner, but dundalk is made for Alexander selections. There is a tipsters ( Hugh) selection of my brother Mike which will take a chunk out of the market.
I'll certainly take every horse into consideration when assessing this race, draw, form, weather, weights etc and of course physics.....
The system provided a group 1 winner on here last Saturday in Amelia's Jewel, so it does work.
    Enjoy your day

2.38 - Taunt - Magistrato - 7/2 bet365 B.O.G. - Paul Nichols is in very good form (14 wins, 11 placed, from 43 runners). This is the 2nd run after a wind op, and although there are 4 runners all with a chance, looks worth a small bet at the price.
5.30 Chelm - Cahore Retreat - 6/1 EW (1/5 4 places bet365) - David Evans runner is in a nursery for the 1st time, visored 1st time, and runs on the AW 1st time. Looks worth an EW bet.
    -----------------------------
6.00 Chelm - Popular Dream - has been heavily gambled into 5/4 fav (forecast 12/1). I won't be having a bet on this unraced 2yo but it may be worth watching as it seems expected to go well and is well bred.

Haha, you are right of course.  However, @The Brigadierput up Rainbow Dreamer at 5/1 so I figured that since there is little between the runners according to @richard-westwoodthen if I back my selection ew at 10/1 then I stand a good as chance as any of getting some sort of return.  Your horse is rock solid in the market and I sincerely wish you all the best with that one
The Brigadier 8pm Kempton Rainbow Dreamer   5/1 A cracking two mile class 2 handicap with £41k of prize money up for grabs. There’s many interlinked form lines from recent races here and it’s Alan King’s nine year old who maybe able to see them all off if repeating his latest course and distance victory. That came three weeks ago when he saw off four of today’s rivals. A 3lb rise may not stop him being competitive again at a track where he thrives at having won 5 of his 6 starts here. Rossa Ryan rode the veteran for the first time last time and retains the partnership tonight. 8:00

I’m being more selective with my bets from now on . Leave most of the midweek stuff unless it’s a decent class 3 or higher. Going to also narrow it down on Saturdays to a max of 4 races. 4 selections and also bang them in a lucky 15 or Yankee depending on the odds .
