khachanov has got so many chances to make it to the quarter finals of a grandslam. he always misses. even today berretini was not 100% fit.

Berrettini made a show today (as Djokovic and Monfils usually do) when he saw he started to struggle in the 3rd set. The match IMO was a 50-50 and I was right cause the match was decided by 3 TBs. 3.30 on Kachanov was huge value IMO.

  2. Well, I finally decided to take a shot in this one.. As you said, this match is expected to be very tight so Kachanov at 3.30 looks juicy. As I said, I watched his matches against Daniil in the ATP Cup and Machac in his last round and I did not like how he played, I saw him erratic.

Karen Kachanov to beat Mateo Berrettini at 3.30 with William Hill

@K8a I watched the first set of the Potapova-Serena match. Potapova was serving for the the first set and she did 5 DF.... Unbelievable... I also think Sabalenka can win but it's hard to predict what can happen there... GL whatever you bet.

  3. I have been focusing on women tennis in this GS but anyone can tell me what makes Berrettini so much favorite against Kachanov? I only have watched his match against Medvedev and a big part of his match against Machac and I haven't seen him playing that well. Against Medvedev he was destroyed but what surprised me the most is how vulnerable he was in some parts of his match against Machac, especially when he was playing with second serves, I found him a little bit erratic. I haven't seen Kachanov at all so can somebody tell me why these odds?

  4. Putintseva's way has been so much easier but she has dropped a set in every single match she has played here. She has played against a depressed player and player who has an awful record in Australia. Svitolina is playing really well and she has not lost any set yet despite playing against 2 dangerous players, especially Bouzkova. Besides, Putintseva was one of the players who was under a strict quarantine. I don't see Svitolina losing this one. In fact, she's my favorite player to win this quarter. She also did so well in her preparation matches.

Jessica Pegula (-3.5 Games) to beat Kristina Mladenovic at 1.80 with bet365

Pegula is still to lose a set in this tournament. She has won against Azarenka (7-5, 6-4) and Stosur (6-0, 6-1). I haven't watched the later one but against Azarenka she played really well, comebacking a 5-2 in the 1st set. Mladenovic has won against Sakkari (6-2, 0-6, 6-3) and Hibino (7-5, 6-1). Hibino choked when she was leading the 1st set 5-3, losing 4 straight games and that frustrated her for the second one. And then, we have that bagel in her match against Sakkari. IMO, Pegula is so much player than Mladenovic right now, by far, and the fact that she has only lost 1 game in her match against Stosur tells me that her comeback against Azarenka has been great for her confidence. Another interesting fact to be considered is that Pegula won against Mladenovic here just 1 week ago, and she did clearly (6-4, 6-1).

Kaia Kanepi (-3,5 Games) to beat Donna Vekic at 1.90 with William Hill

Kanepi has won against Sevastova (6-3, 6-1) and Kenin (6-3, 6-2). I was concerned about her physique but she only has been in court 2 hours in her first 2 matches here. I did not appreciate fatigue in her match against Kenin. Vekic came here in a bad form. She lost in the 1st round against Pera in Abu Dhabi and Pironkova in the Varra Yalley Classic. She dropped a set against Yafan Wang in her first match here and won in 2 sets against Podoroska. Kanepi is in better form and, as I said, she only has been 2 hours in court.

I got this 2 for tonight, and I add these 2 for the next day.

Su-Wei Hsieh (+1,5 Sets) to beat Marketa Vondrousova at 1.80 with betfair
Iga Swiatek (+1,5 Sets) to beat Simona Halep at 1.50 with bet365

Hsieh has won against Pironkova (7-5, 6-2), Andreescu (6-3, 6-2) and Errani (6-4, 2-6, 7-5) while Vondrousova has played against Peterson (2-6, 7-5, 7-5), Marino (6-1, 7-5) and Cirstea (6-2, 6-4). Vondrousova only has dropped a set in her 1st match here. Peterson came here in an awful form (3-10 in 2020) but she's a hard court specialist and she put Vondrousova in troubles with her incredible forehand. After that, she won against Marino, who lost 4 straight games in the 2nd set when she was serving for the set (5-3), and Cirstea, who has been really disappointing in her match against her. She has played against 3 big hitters so playing against Hsieh will be a huge change for her. I still maintain that Vondrousova is far from her best form and the fact that she lost against Hsieh (6-3, 3-6, 6-7) in Abu Dhabi 1 month ago says to me that this is not an impossible match for Hsieh.
Halep has won against Cabrera (6-2, 6-1), Tomjlanovic (4-6, 6-4, 7-5) and Kudermetova (6-1, 6-3) while Swiatek has won against Rus (6-1, 6-3), Giorgi (6-2, 6-4) and Ferro (6-4, 6-3). Halep has raised considerably her game in her 3rd match here after her thrilling match against Tomjlanovic. IMO, the result of her match against Kudermetova did not reflect how the match really was, but the reality was that Halep played the crucial points so much better and Kudermetova played only with a 43% of 1st serves, which is an awful stat and that's the reason why Halep broke her serve that many times. That's something I don't expect from Swiatek... I like so much how Swiatek played against Rus and Giorgi but I don't like how she has played against Ferro. She has wasted so many BPs and she has reduced her % of 1st serves in relation to her first 2 matches here. That's something she will have to  fix if she wants to win against Halep. This will be a nice match to watch... Swiatek's game suits more on this fast courts but I don't like the fact that Halep lost big (6-1, 6-2) against her in the FO because now she will be eager to take revenge on her.

  6. In my humble opinion backing Ferro against Swiatek is a dumb move. Swiatek has proved that her game is made for clay and hard courts. When she was 17/18 years old she was already beating on this surface some of the best players of the circuit, as Jabeur, Vekic, Rogers, Wozniacki, Caroline García,... Ferro is a clay court player and she barely has a positive record on this surface, built in part from ITF matches. I only have watched the highlights from her match against Rybakina but when I saw her losing against Krejcikova I knew something was happening there. It will shock me a lot if Swiatek is not in the next round, especially after watching how she has won against Rus and Giorgi. IMO there better underdogs out there than Ferro.

  7. Only one for tonight.

Simona Halep (-3,5 Games) to beat Kudermetova at 1.83 with bet365

I will go against the majority in this one. Halep was on the border of the abysm in her first match against Tomjlanovic. The aussie was leading 5-2 the final set and she was playing really well. The people who watched the match will know how Halep won those 5 straight games and it wasn't because Tomjlanovic choked (she played her best match ever, from the beginning until the end). She did because she showed her best version on those 5 games. As I said, overall Halep did not play well and her % of points won with 2nd serves was awful: 29% (12-41) but IMO that victory can only make her improving for the next rounds. Kudermetova has been playing really well, especially in Abu Dhabi, but there are a couple of things that makes me go against her. The first one is that she was one of the players that was under a strict quarantine while Halep was in Adelaide. Looks like her game hasn't been as convincing after that. In the Grampians Trophy she lost against Ann Li in 2 sets, after winning against Watson, also in 2 sets. She dropped a set against Gracheva in her last match here after winning against Kostyuk, again, in a tight match. She has played against 2 young players so IMO playing Halep will be a big jump for her. Not only because Halep is so much better player than Gracheva and Kostyuk but also because she has a complete different style of playing... while Halep has faced a similar player in her last match. It's hard to know what version we will see from them but IMO Halep can only improve after that thrilling victory.

  9. @CzechPunter I agree, I'm not expecting too much from her. Have you seen Halep today? 5-2 down in the 3rd set. Tomjlanovic has played the match of her life but Halep has been really disappointing. What shocked me the most is that she only has won 12/41 points with her 2nd serves... Unbelieavable. I don't expect too much from her... Kudermetova in the next round and then Swiatek, I guess...

  10. Nao Hibino (+1,5 Sets) to beat Kristina Mladenovic at 1.72 with bet365

Nao Hibino to beat Kristina Mladenovic at 2.90 with Unibet

I got nothing much to say about this match. Mladenovic won her match against Sakkari (6-2, 0-6, 6-3) but we know how unstable she has been in the last years and it's really painful to see her with such odds. Hibino won her 1st match here against Sharma in a 3 set match. The last year Hibino did well here. She won against Peng in the 1st round, coming form the qualy, and then played a close match against Sakkari (6-7, 4-6).

    I add one more.

Sofia Kenin to beat Kaia Kanepi at 1.80 with betfair

This can be a tight one but Kenin is the current champion so at these odds it deserves a shot. Kanepi did so well in her preparation matches here but she dropped sets against Sharma and Sabalenka and finally she lost clearly against Mertens (6-4, 6-1). She's 35 years old and we know how she has struggled with her physique. Kenin did not impress me at all against Inglis. I saw her a little bit anxious but it's never easy to play against a young local rising star in the 1st round.

Also @darko08 it's interesting that you mentioned Cirstea as a better alternative. I wonder if you would have done that if she'd lost. With hindsight, it's easy to say that was the bet to take because it won but I take a different view. Just because Cirstea won doesn't necessarily make me think I should have backed her. I agree with the points you made though about Kvitova - I noticed she had some problems against Minnen and she really shouldn't have done.

I only mentioned Cirstea because is the non-favorite player that I picked as a bet, not because she had won. It wouldn't be fair if I had mentioned Ferro or Hsieh as better options because I did not post anything about them. Personally,  I had 4 or 5 players priced at similar odds that, IMO, had better options than Giorgi but, as you said, we have different opinions. I just was surprised that from all the underdogs you picked that one, that's all. Btw, it's interesting to see that most of the big upsets are players who were under strict quarantine (Azarenka, Rybakina, Sakkari, Andreescu, Kerber,...).

Happens a lot @darko08 Diyas just did something similar against Pera. Sometimes it goes in your favour, sometimes not.

I haven't seen that match, but I see what you're talking about, Diyas wasted a lot of BPs in the 1st set. I was wrong about that one... how many times we have seen a player doing the match of his life but then losing miserably in the next round against weaker opposition... As you said, none of them was in a good form and only one good match means nothing. Good for that one. Anyways, I have to say you something. Your other bet was senseless. As I said before, Giorgi was not playing well and she retired from her match against Kenin due to a thigh injury. In her match against Shvedova she was already wearing the same straps she has wore today. I have not appreciated any kind of problem on her moves but it's something you have to consider when you place a bet. Swiatek came here after winning the FO easily and she proved against Rus that she doesn't feel the pressure that so many young players feel after winning a GS. Her match against Rus was simply brilliant. In conclusion, you backed a player who hasn't showed her best version for a long time, who had to retire from her match just 8 days ago due to a injury, and you did it against one of the best current players of the circuit. So, your only reason was that maybe, and just maybe, Giorgi could display her best version despite she hasn't showed it for a long time.
IMO you had some better options if you were looking for big odds. Cirstea was a good option as Kvitova looked heavy and tired against Podoroska while Cirstea was playing good, coming with 7 straight wins on her back. She was even better priced than Giorgi. I felt alluded by your bets and that's why I comment it.

  13. @lelit Yep,.. But Giorgi has not been playing well. Swiatek's game also suits on fast courts. She has been super solid on serve against Rus (only 1 BP in the whole match..), she has more variety than Giorgi and we know what happens when Giorgi is not accurate... she gifts a lot of points. But you're right, if Giorgi has a good day she can even win but, as I said, I haven't seen her good version for a long time. Let's see

Sorana Cirstea (+4.5 Games) to beat Petra Kvitova at 2.00 with William Hill

I repeat with Cirstea. Cirstea has won against Tig (6-1, 6-2) while Kvitova has won against Minnen (6-3, 6-4). Kvitova hasn't showed her best tennis here. She had a hard battle against Venus (7-6, 7-5) and lost against Podoroska (7-5, 1-6, 6-7) in her preparation matches here. As I said before, Cirstea came here in a good form. She won an ITF tournament in Dubai, beating Blinkova, Cocciaretto, Krejcikova, Hercog and Siniakova. In her preparation matches she beat Bencic and lost against Ann Li, both in straight sets. Kvitova looks quite vulnerable and Cirstea is in a good form and she usually shows her best tennis when she faces big players.

Bernarda Pera to beat Zarina Diyas at 1.61 with bet365

This is entirely based on how Pera has played against Kerber (6-0, 6-4). Probably she has played the best match of her career... She cleaned every single line of the court, hitting really hard the ball and giving no opportunities to Kerber. In the 2nd set Pera started to play a little bit conservative and that's when Kerber started to win games but finally Pera returned to her initial version and closed the match without problems. IMO, if Pera shows a similar version than today she should win the match, easily. The last time they played was in the US Open 2020 and Pera won 7-6, 6-0.

    I add this one.

Iga Swiatek (2-0) to beat Camila Giorgi at 1.66 with bet365

Swiatek has been really convincing in her match against Rus (6-1, 6-3) while Giorgi has not been tested yet as she has played against Shvedova (6-3, 6-3) in the 1st round. In her preparation matches Giorgi had to retire in her match against Kenin after losing the 1st set, due to a thigh injury. I haven't seen the best version of Giorgi for a long time. I still remember her match against Osaka in the USO. She played really bad..., no patience in the construction of the points, UEs, DFs,... We all know how she plays but that was too much...

  15. Unbelievable... The way she has collapsed when she was serving for the match (5-2) is unbelievable... I have seen this kind of things, especially in the WTA, but this one was totally unexpected considering how the match was going on. Azarenka had the match absolutely under control. This is one of the strangest things I have seen for a long time because Azarenka is well known for her mental strength. Well, we have the first big surprise of the tournament, let's see which ones more we have because I'm expecting some big ones in this tournament...

Hey guys. Looking for a banker for a big buck.

    Thinking about:

Goffin to beat Popyrin @1.32 unibet. He did not shine in the last games but there is still quality difference between them.

Lopez to beat Tu Li @1.33 unibet. The same reasoning as above. The veteran should be good on hard, having a good serve. Tu Li had a good wins series but all of them were against another class of players.

Bencic to beat Davis @1.38 unibet. Better player with better results on hard court in 2020.

Mertens to beat Fernandes @1.25 unibet. Better player with very good results lately.

Not value bets but would appreciate any hint that would help to choose 1-2 of the above.

Wow. I don't want to be disrespectful but the players you have chose are not trustable at all...
Goffin is in a bad form and he lost his only match played here against Alcaraz in 2 sets while Popyrin has won some matches, at least. He plays home and he won against Tsonga and Munar the last year here.
Lopez is almost 40 years old and he needs to serve really well to be competitive. He lost in 2 sets against Anderson in his only match played here. I haven't seen Li Tu playing but his story is inspiring and I have seen that he has won some decent players (Polmans, Klein,...) playing the UTR Pro Championship.
Bencic's form is absolutely awful. She has lost in her only match here against Cirstea in 2 sets. Before that she lost against Kovinic in 2 sets in Rome. Davis is not at her best either but she has won a set against Krejcikova and her game style suits here so I don't expect an easy match for Bencic. Add to that how unstable is Bencic on court.
Mertens is playing really well. She has won against Hibi, García, Svitolina and Kanepi. From all those players the only one who took a set from her was Elina.

  18. @CzechPunter Osaka's route to the Final is a nightmare. Pavlyuchenkova in the 1st round, García/Hercog in the 2nd round, Jabeur in the 3th round, Muguruza/Kerber in the 4th round, Kvitova/Vondrousova/Andreescu in QFs, Serena/Sabalenka/Swiatek/Rybakina/Halep in SFs and Barty/Mertens/Pliskova/Kenin/Brady/Azarenka/Sakkari in the Final. Osaka playing at her best is the better player of the circuit but with that draw she can't have a bad match... I think her 4th round opponents are more dangerous than her QFs opponents, depending of what version of Andreescu we will see, which is impossible to know right now.

@lelit In my case they're still available. ?

  19. Ashleigh Barty to win the 1st quarter at 2.87 with bet365

Barty will face Kovinic in the 1st round, Sorribes/Gavrilova in the 2nd round, S.Zheng/Krejcikova/Trevisan/Alexandrova in the 3rd round, Kontaveit/Sasnovich/Kr.Pliskova/Watson/F.Jones/Rogers/Danilovic/Martic in the 4th round and Bencic/Davis/Kuznetsova/Strycova/Zhu/Osuigwe/Leylah/Mertens/Muchova/Ostapenko/Barthel/Cocciaretto/Collins/Bogdan/Paolini/Ka.Pliskova in the QFs. IMO I don't see too many players there who can beat her and she has a big advantage: she can win most of the players  without even playing good... Alexandrova in the 3rd round could trouble her a little bit but I can't imagine her winning the match. Then Kontaveit, Rogers and Martic in the 4th round. I watched her against Rogers and despite dropping a set against her the sensation of superiority was clear. Martic is far from her best form and Kontaveit hasn't showed her best tennis recently either so I don't see them as big threats for Barty. In the QFs the player I fear the most is Mertens. I don't expect too much from Karolina Pliskova, and Bencic's form is really poor as well. Collins is a player to be considered but, as I said, I think Barty has been lucky with the draw and I expect her to win this quarter.

Danielle Collins (vs Bogdan) + Iga Swiatek (vs Rus) at 1.61 with 888

Bogdan ended 2020 with a negative record (7-8). She has played a couple of matches here, winning against Rakhimova and losing against Barty, both in straight sets. As I said before, Collins has played her best tennis ever here in Australia and she has done well recently, winning against Bonaventure, Stojanovic and Karolina Pliskova. She finally lost against Serena but she took a set from her (2-6, 6-4, 6-10).
Rus' record in Australia is pretty bad and she hasn't done well recently.
She lost her last match played here against Venus (6-1, 6-3) and she also lost in the 1s round in Abu Dhabi against Xiyu Wang. Swiatek has played a couple of matches here. She won against her best friend Kaja Juvan in the 1st round but then lost in 2 sets against Alexandrova. The current RG champion did well here the last year. She won against Babos, Carla Suárez Navarro and Vekic, all of them in straight sets, and finally lost against Kontaveit in a tight match.

Victoria Azarenka (vs Pegula) + Nadia Podoroska (vs McHale) at 1.82 with 888

Azarenka has withdrawn from her QFs match against Kontaveit. She said she had a lower back problem but it's pretty obvious she had nothing and she did to be fit for the AO. Osaka also has withdrawn from her match against Mertens... They just don't want to risk the AO. Pegula's record on hard courts is impressive, but the 99% of her victories are on american soil. The only time she has played the AO
was in 2020 and she lost in 2 sets against Towsend while Azarenka has won the whole tournament 2 times... Pegula has won here against Mladenovic and Barthel, and she has lost against Kenin in a 3 set match. In Abu Dhabi she lost in the 1st round against Svitolina, in straight sets. Azarenka has won her only match here against Putintseva. Despite being Pegula a good hard court player it would shock me a lot to see Azarenka losing this match considering how good she has been playing, especially in the USO. McHale was one of the players who was under a strict quarantine. She has  lost in her only match played here against Kontaveit (1-6, 3-6) and that's the only one she has played since RG. As I said before, Podoroska is in her best moment right now. She has won here against Jones, Minnen and Kvitova. She finally lost against Vondrousova despite taking the 1st set.

Sorana Cirstea to beat Patricia Maria Tig at 1.52 with 888

Cirstea is in a good form. She comes from winning an ITF tournament in Dubai, where she beat Blinkova, Cocciaretto, Krejcikova, Hercog and Siniakova. She has won against Kalashnikova and Bencic, both in 2 sets, and she's still to play against Ann Li in so she's currently in a 7 winning streak. Tig has lost the only match she has played here against Babos (6-7, 3-6). Cirstea is in a good form and feels so much better than Tig on hard courts so I expect her to win this match.

Barbora Krejcikova to beat Saisai Zheng at 1.53 with 888

I haven't seen Saisai for a while... looks like she has been a little bit inactive due to the pandemic. She has played 1 match here, against Begu (6-3, 5-7, 4-6) and then she has no matches played since February 2020. In the other side, Krejcikova looks great. As I said before, the former world number 1 on doubles had a great 2020 on singles, and looks like that good form is still going on in 2021 cause she has won here against Davis and Rybakina and she’s still to play against Brady.

Anastasija Pavlyuchenkova to beat Naomi Osaka at 5.00 with bet365

Osaka has been really unlucky. As I said before, Pavlyuchenkova always has played really well here. The last year here she lost against Gauff in the 3rd round while Pavlyuchenkova reached the QFs, where she lost against Muguruza in a tight match. Before that she beat Kerber and Karolina Pliskova. Osaka is the big favorite but it deserves a try at these odds.

I know some tournaments still on but i'm out for the weekend. GL.

  20. @liquidglass I also got that "feeling" you're talking about but then, sometimes, I realize how wrong I was so I prioritize what players have done recently. I remember that you thought that Kerber was in the US Open to do big things, despite her lack of matches. I never thought that but I thought how lucky she was with the draw so I considered she could have a deep run. I even recommended her victory against Tomjlanovic in the 1st round. I did not like her at all but my thought was: "well, it's her first match after a long time, she will get better". Then I saw her, now as a big favorite for the bookies, against Friedsam. I did not appreciate any kind of progression on her, probably she could have lost the match if Friedsam would have won that tight TB in the 2nd set. I even thought there was value on Ann Li considering what Kerber did. She won but, again, suffering and showing no signs of progression on her game. And finally the reality struck her in the 4th round, Brady pulverised her. I guess that the main point here is that we differ about the current form of Vondrousova. My opinion about her is that she's not trustable yet. I'm very stubborn with these kind of things. When I see a player coming from a bad streak I need to see her playing well in a considerable number of matches in more than 1 tournament. I hate so much to be fooled by some players "glimpses"... So, while Podoroska is playing the best tennis of her career and is super confident on herself right now, Vondrousova has not proved to me that she's on the right way... Can I be wrong? Sure... But my perception was that there was value on Podoroska at 2.37.

  21. @liquidglassC'mon... don't be lazy and find more examples .  I don't care how much spin put on her shots, or how good are her drop shots and angles,... IMO she's so far from what I saw from her in 2019... As I said, if you're assuming Podoroska can't deal with such players, find more examples, don't tell me that she can't deal with them just because Swiatek and Vondrousova (in 2017...) won easily against her. BTW, Swiatek not only destroyed Podoroska in RG, she destroyed 10 more players, including Halep (6-1, 6-2) and Kenin (6-4, 6-1). It's more a matter of form. The only thing I'm agree with you is that Vondrousova is overall better player and has more progression but she's far from her best form and I dont like what I have watched from her recently. Anyway, in some way i found interesting your point of view.
