RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 9.00 Newbury Pushed for time again tonight, sorry. Last race on the card and a 5f sprint here: Brandywell Boy (8/1 William Hill) - Great chance tonight for a horse that wins rarely but has a fine record here, placing on each of its 5 starts. In decent nick and with a drop in grade and a 3lb easing in the weights, all looks primed for a big run. Goes well for the jockey too, is fit with a run only 10 days and is entered up again later in the week, possibly suggesting a win is just around the corner. Even in defeat, the horse is running well and I think the big drop in mark could just make the difference tonight against some exposed rivals. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Cheers guys. Delighted with the 2 from 2 but, in fairness, I think I owed it to anyone who has followed my selections this year. Without doubt, the worst run of my whole life but I'm chuffed to bits with the comeback. I just hope I can keep it going....thanks for all the support:ok 9.00 Newbury Pushed for time again tonight, sorry. Ran a great race and looked good value for its win. That's 9/1 & 8/1 winners this week, back into a healthy position now. well done Russ' date=' i chose to go against you with Pic up sticks but did you notice the trainers 21% SR at the track? Very impressive to say the least. Only thing put me off was that it hadnt won on turf for 4 years![/quote'] Cheers Rob. Yes, I saw the strike rate but the 2 things that really took my eye were the handicap mark (off 58, I couldn't see it not being placed) and also the track record. Placed 5 from 5 but at massive prices (so clearly ran well here when unfancied)....prices of 100/1, 33/1, 20/1, 16/1 and 10/1....now following up with a 13/2 win. Watch out for this horse when back at the track;)

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 8.50 Kempton 12 for this Class 4 1m handicap here on the AW. The 2 favs are opposed due to rising marks and conditions not ideal to take advantage so the one I'm on is: Ocean Legend (8/1 William Hill) - Well drawn here which is a plus, as is the excellent 5lb claimer on top. Goes really well and is generally in the mix but wins rarely. However, its mark off 71 looks very lenient and I'd expect it to go really close off this mark at its favourite track. In the first 3 on 9 of its 11 starts on a range of marks from 73 to 79, with the 2 unpl runs off 76 and 78. Infrequent winner but good chance in a weakish race, and plenty of support for this horse backed in from 12's to a best priced 8/1 now. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 8.55 Newcastle 6f handicap with high numbers looking strongly favoured so far this season, which leads us to: Mark Of Meydan (10/1 William Hill) - Still a very lightly raced type and well drawn tonight. Trainer has 3 in the race so looking like he wants to take this prize. Dropped 3lb in the handicap and well handicapped for this race. Ran really well last time here but didn't settle and it was a promising run to finish 5th that day over 7f. Lto at Ponty, had the inside draw but was slow out of the gates and almost brought down in the first furlong. That put paid to its chances but it still ran ok finishing midfield. Will be hoping to put the record straight here tonight and I think 10's is a big price off a good mark and excellent draw.

RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 2.35 Newcastle 12 runners over the straight 6f on soft, where high draw is a plus so: Sunrise Safari (17/2 William Hill) - Horse goes really well here with a win & 2nd from 2 starts, and drawn well in 10. Reunited with stable jockey for this run and dropped 2lb to a very tempting mark indeed. Poor draw lto and trip too far time before but conditions back to suit today. Importantly, goes well on the ground and that could prove crucial this afternoon. Stable in nice form too and I expect a big run.
RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 4.40 Windsor 5 NR's so just 11 left for this 6f sprint and a pretty open race, so the one for me is: Make My Dream (9/1 Bet365 BOG) - Looks a really big price to me for a horse that is both well handicapped and well drawn. Horse has run decent races over the last 12 months but has struggled to get its head in front. The drop of 2lb in mark, with the added bonus of a very good apprentice taking a further 5lb off makes this look very well handicapped. Drawn only 3 off the rail and should make a bold bid from the fore of the pack. Easy to ignore last couple of runs where the trip was too sharp so the additional furlong in its favour. Likes the track too having finished in the first 4 on each of its 4 starts here, never finishing more than 1.5L off the winner. Nice price and great EW chance. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Another profitable day with both horses finishing in the money. Beat the price easily on Sunrise Safari which finished 3rd at 13/2, but glad I took BOG on Make My Dream, drifting out to 14/1 but again finishing 3rd. Almost 15pts up today:ok
mowgli77
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Nice couple of winners in the last few days. :clap Keep it up mate. Have you noticed the winners have been 5f and 6f races? Are you finding winners in a specific class of race or from various classes, would be interesting to find out, also the 6f races seem very kind to you, less draw bias than the 5f sprints too. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) 2.35 Salisbury With 1 NR, 10 go to post for this 10f handicap. Happy to oppose both in form favourites here and go with the EW chances of: Seventh Hill (15/2 VC BOG) - Negative here is that the horse is still a maiden but I'll quite happily offset that with a number of positives. Races today off a favourable mark being dropped 2lb from lto to a tempting 58. 2 previous efforts were poor, both at Newbury, but I think the trip was to blame on 1 of those occasions. Jockey has rode this horse twice this term, finishing 3rd on both occasions at EW prices, last time when unlucky in running at Bath. I think the horse would have got a lot closer with a clearer run that day off a mark 5lb higher than today. Ran a close 2nd last time here so has shown a liking for this strange track. Career low mark, track to suit and ideal distance give this horse a big chance. Also, well entered up this week in 3 races suggesting its time might just have come. RussP
Re: RussP's Specialisation - Big Field Handicaps (Flat) Poor run from the one today, sorry guys. Nice couple of winners in the last few days. :clap Keep it up mate. Have you noticed the winners have been 5f and 6f races? Are you finding winners in a specific class of race or from various classes' date=' would be interesting to find out, also the 6f races seem very kind to you, less draw bias than the 5f sprints too.[/quote'] Yes, I noticed that. Overall though, my winners come over a variety of distances although it's very rare I post anything that runs in a race over 1m4f. I find those races very difficult to find an EW bet in. I will monitor the distances but I'm not certain distance has that much effect. With regard to class, I much prefer Class 3 to 5. For me, Class 6 is always loaded with a lot of rubbish and something always comes out of the woodwork, whilst Class 2's are tough for me because it's those coming out of Listed races I struggle to read.
