StevieDay1983
Charlton vs Scunthorpe It's a bumper week in this thread with an extra preview coming but first up is a massive League One play-off clash between 6th placed Charlton and 9th placed Scunthorpe. Three places might separate these teams in the table but there is only a 1 point difference. Lee Bowyer's team have picked up their results recently after a poor run of form during February and March. It's now just one defeat in their last six league games. Unfortunately, that defeat came in a 1-0 loss away to relegation battlers AFC Wimbledon. Nick Daws' side are continuing their dreadful run of results under his management from the previous gaffer Graham Alexander. It's now 10 league games without a win. On the plus side, they have drawn their last three games so are making themselves tough to beat. Initially, the price being offered on a home win made me think that's where the sensible money should go. Scunthorpe's recent form is potentially costing them a play-off spot. They have been unlucky but that's football. It's a results business. I do feel a win is coming soon. Is it here? They are amazing value for a team that's been playing OK despite their results. The big question is how much that defeat to AFC Wimbledon will hurt Charlton? Or will it make them bite back here? Interestingly, both teams have scored in 14 of the last 15 league matches Scunthorpe have played. Charlton have not been quite as exciting with one team failing to score in 6 of their last 10 league games. I just think the midweek game will have taken a bit out of the home side. It's a tiring finale to a long season. Playing the extra game in this busy period can really have an impact. I actually back Scunthorpe to break their run and get something here. StevieDay1983
Port Vale vs Lincoln City Well, what a momentous week it has been for Lincoln City after their heroic 1-0 win against League One promotion contenders Shrewsbury in the Checktrade Trophy Final at Wembley last weekend. Now, it's back to the reality of a League Two clash away to Port Vale in a 3pm kick-off tomorrow afternoon at Vale Park. Port Vale have had an awful season which has seen three sets of management teams take the helm at the club. Former manager Michael Brown only lasted until mid-September. David Kelly and Chris Morgan took the reigns for a few games before Neil Aspin was appointed as gaffer on 4th October. Despite starting well with 9 wins and 2 draws from his first 14 league games, Aspin has seen form freefall. The club now has just a single league win in 2018 that has seen them drop to 19th in the table. Lincoln City are continuing to impress. Their trophy win last weekend is no surprise after their cup achievements last season. The club is also in 6th place in League Two with games in hand on those teams around them. 4 wins and 2 draws from their last six competitive games has given them the confidence boost needed for this run-in. It makes total sense to back the away side here. Port Vale have seemingly run out of answers. They remain a tough team to beat with 9 draws from their last 14 league games. However, the single win since 30th December, 2017 is a problem. They are ranked 21st in the division for their home form. Compare that to Lincoln City's away form that has seen them take points from 14 of their 20 away games. StevieDay1983
Hamilton vs Kilmarnock After being unable to get my second preview up in this section last week, I'm doing a third one this weekend. The game of choice for this is the final SPL match before the big split that is between Hamilton and Kilmarnock in a 3pm kick-off tomorrow afternoon at New Douglas Park. The result of this game will not have a bearing on either side's involvement in the top or bottom half of the table after the split. Hamilton are in 9th place on 30 points and Kilmarnock are in 5th place on 52 points. This result will simply help them to be in a more advantageous position for the split. Or it could leave them worse off! Hamilton have been poor lately. Four losses on the bounce in the league has seen them drop dangerously close to the relegation zone after it had seemed they might be comfortably safe going into the split. That will be music to the ears of Kilmarnock fans. Steve Clarke's team are have won 5 in a row in the SPL as part of a 10-match unbeaten run. They have also not lost away to Hamilton in their last 9 trips to New Douglas Park. Backing an away win is always a bit riskier than playing it safe with a home win but it's where the money has to go here. Kilmarnock are still hunting down 4th placed Hibernian. A win here would move them to within 4 points of their rivals. Aberdeen, in a Europa League qualification spot, are then only 3 points better off than Hibernian. It's a great incentive and one I feel Kilmarnock will fully embrace with a win.
