BillyHills
Had to write 2018 1.40 Musselburgh Upsilon Bleu 3/1 Betfred Interesting little handicap to kick off the new year and I've always liked Upsilon Bleu and think he should have won more races. A very solid performer at 2m but has been further so this 2m 4f at Musselburgh should be fine. Comes here after finishing 5th to the ill-fated Sir Valentino at Ascot, he wasnt beaten far that day and a repeat of that will do here. Trotter
I'm toying with a little experimental system to start the year applies to handicaps with 12 plus runners declared ....... and basically involves noting down 3 horses in each race being - the Racing Post Verdict selection - the early price favourite at whatever time I look at the race - the first horse in the market at double figure odds that has course form and/or I assess should be suited by the track. This obviously involves me doing some selecting or forming an opinion. So today we have (the quoted prices are as I noted them down earlier this morning) 1) Catt 1.00 (12 declared) RP - Today Please at 7/1 EP Fave - Civil Unrest 11/2 Me - Snowed In at 12/1 2) Sou 3.30 (12 declared) RP - Mr Coco Bean at 4/1 EP Fave - Mr Coco Bean at 4/1 Me - Barista at 14/1 Not sure if this will lead to anything but I'm interested to see how each selection criteria gets on and particularly where horses are selected by 2 of the categories (unlikely ever to be all 3 as the fave will only be double figure odds in the huge top handicaps, and then rarely) I'm particularly interested to see if 'my' selections regularly get placed at least and might form the basis of EW bets I'll post results later richard-westwood and vikki37

I just woke up with a splitting headache!! I am backing Powerful Society in the 12.35 Southwell. This horse was on my watch list and it’s got a claimer on board to take some off. It it’s trappy race with horses trying out distances. I still class my one as a reliable sort at this track and should run its race.

Today Please was well backed into 2nd Favourite but Civil Unrest drifted out in the betting and neither of them ever looked like winning Barista was slowly away and always out the back Edit - no qualifying races on Tuesday Edited January 1, 2018 by Trotter BillyHills
