    Hoffenheim vs Manchester City
I was going to preview the Manchester United versus Valencia game for this round of Champions League matches due to the ongoing drama surrounding the Red Devils but seeing as @Mindfulness has summed up my thoughts I'll go for this game between Bundesliga side Hoffenheim and reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in a 5:55pm kick-off tomorrow at the Wirsol Rhein-Neckar-Arena.
Hoffenheim will be hurting after their 2-1 defeat on the weekend at home to RB Leipzig. The game was all about how Hoffenheim's head coach Julian Nagelsmann would perform against his future employers. The 31 year old is set to take over the managerial reigns at Leipzig next season. It's a very strange and uncomfortable agreement.
The club is treading water in mid-table in the Bundesliga and it already feels as if something is missing this season. Clearly, it's not a situation any club wants where their manager has already agreed to depart the club at the end of the season. How must that affect the mentality of the players?
Manchester City are showing they remain one of the most dangerous sides in European football under Pep Guardiola. The Citizens won comfortably on the weekend with a 2-0 score-line at home to Brighton. It was a result that saw the club move back to the top of the Premier League after the draw between Chelsea and Liverpool.
An unexpected loss in their opening Champions League game last week means the pressure is on for City to deliver something here. They are favourites and even though there are no easy games in Europe's elite competition, particularly away, they should be demanding a win here.
Hoffenheim's form in Europe is, quite frankly, awful. They have won just 1 of their previous 9 matches in European competition. That solitary victory coming in a Europa League win over Istanbul Basaksehir last season. To add to this, their only previous experience of playing English opposition in Europe was twice against Liverpool last season losing 6-3 over the two games.
I can see Pep demanding a dominant display here. Hoffenheim have only won one game at home this season but they have been a difficult team to break down even when they've not secured victory. They held Borussia Dortmund to a 1-1 draw on home turf just a couple of weeks ago. I just think this City side under Pep is irresistible and re-discovering their best form from last season. A business-like away win here.

    Manchester Utd V Valencia
    Valencia +1.0 AH @ 1.77 Betvictor
Utd are in a difficult moment with the team lacking confidence and a clear idea of how to play. I feel Mourinho has done too much tinkering with his tactics recently and players do not know whether they are comming or going. The Mourinho / Pogba saga has not helped either and right now Utd strike me as a club where it is hard for players to play themselves into form with so much chopping and changing.
Valenica have had a tepid start to their La Liga season with 1 win, 1 defeat and 5 draws!!! The win did come at the weekend away to Real Sociedad and I feel Valencia can start to get their season up and running. Their issues with injuries are starting to ease and head coach Marcelino could have an almost full strength squad to take to Utd. Valencia are compact, well drilled and very dangerous on the counter. Everyone knows their roll and they are more than capable of picking up results on the road due to their style of play.
To get Valencia on the +1AH line seems generous to me. It's fair to say that we have no idea what kind of Utd team will show up for this game but they are in a difficult moment and now face another tricky opponent. Valencia with a whole goal advantage looks to be the prudent move in my view.

    Alright then..

    Crvena zvezda - Napoli

So Red Star Belgrade,Rotern Stern or Stella Rossa di Belgrado is back where it`s belong - in top European competition.
It's little strange that journey took so long, but there you go. Better late than ever i guess.

In the first match of the group stage we will face Napoli, runners-up of the two consecutive seasons in Serie A.  A very strong team that you know quite a lot about so I will not waste my time writing too much about them.

Match will be played in amazing atmosphere.
Tickets are sold out for all three home matches so the Rajko Mitic Stadium will be packed with fans. The match will be attended by members of the Zvezda`s golden generation who won the Champions Cup in 1991 such as Dejan Savicevic,Robert Prosinecki, Sinisa Mihajlovic, Vladimir Jugovic,Darko Pancev etc. So it`s going to be quite a spectacle.

The team is looking good, still without a defeat in season. In play-off round of qualifications we knocked-out Salzburg with 2-2 aggregate result on aways goals with both of my picks (Crvena zvezda AH2 +1  and CZ to qualify) winners.
It is very important to mention that we finally have all players available. Lorenzo Ebicillio is back from injury,so is Jonathan Cafu who we signed from Bordeaux.

On the last day of transfer window we lost Nemanja Radonjic who went  to Olimpique Marseille, but we bought three very good players - Causic, Boakye and Marin (former German internarional and former Chelsea player). All three of them are expected to start tomorrow. In particular, the return of Boakye is a significant reinforcement because Zvezda has stuggled a bit upfront.

I saw Napoli in couple of occasions in this season. Even though they didn't change their squad at all i feel that they are in some kind of transition under new coach, legendary Carlo Ancelotti, trying to adopt to his ideas and football philosophy.
Their backline look a little bit shaky and in this i see some chance for us to keep a tie tight and maybe even avoid a defeat, altough Napoli is stronger side with more quality.

Initially i was going for AH1 (+2/+1,5) because i think this will be much closer than odds suggest, but odds has dropped significantly so i`ll try with more risky pick.
Crvena zvezda to score over 0,5 team goals @1,85

With Boakye,Marin,Ben&co. i think we have enough firepower to score at least one goal.

Shakhtar to beat Hoffenheim at 2.00 bet365
Shaktar are starting their consecutive journey in CL. The Ukrainians were able to get 3 home wins last year in their group and even achieved a prestigious win against Man City (even though the English team played with their reserves). This year the aim will be the same to get out of the group. This game is must win. Shakhtar don't have real competition in the local league and have 5 consecutive wins in the league. From the other side, Hoffenheim started unconvincing with 2 losses from 3 games in Bundesliga. In addition, the Germans have problems with injured and doubtful players. The total number reaches 10 players which most certainly will not play with Kevin Vogt, Lukas Rupp, Amiri, Denis Geiger and others. Hoffenheim are new to CL with last year playing in EL and finishing last in their group. Based on everything written, I see value in home win. GL

Well, alright then, the Djokovic result leaves me at  +11.1pts with two matches to go. Not bad, not great, but I'll take that, a profit is a profit and it just adds to the good season. As for the finals, I can't really see any bets that I'd like to take. Naomi Osaka has a chance against Serena if she doesn't choke, but that's a big if and I'm not sure that you can bank on it. Meanwhile, the surface is such that Djokovic should be able to beat JMDP if he plays like he did against Nishikori. That was basically a flawless performance and, while JMDP is going to get much more from his serve, I don't see him out-powering Djokovic over five sets. Good luck if you're diving in, I'm just going to save my profits and move on, there are many nice weeks still waiting for us this year.

Crvena zvezda have good team and i don't really undrstand why are they so underrated. Unfortunately i didn't have time to write a preview of first leg,but i was absolutely sure we wouldn't lose it.

    As for the 2nd leg..
Crvena zvezda has played so far in this season 11.official matches (both in Europe and domestic league) and it's still without defeat. In these matches we only conceded 3.goals. From the begining of the previous season and under new coach Vladan Milojevic we really made progress, not just at home ground but in away fixtures as well: vs.Arsenal 0:0, vs.Koln 1:0, vs.Sparta Prague 1:0,vs.Krasnodar 2:3,vs.CSKA Moscow 0:1. So no one out-played us and what is more important - nobody beat us with two goals margin. I really don't see it happening in Salzburg either.
First match in Belgrade ended in goaless draw but we were without the fans because of ban. Which was a huge blow for the team.
Now it will be different in Salzburg where i expect advantage on the stands because there is a large number of Serbs living in Austria and Germany. Im sure in one thing - the atmosphere will be like we playing on home ground.

In pre-season we've already played against two Austrian clubs and won both of them (vs.Lask 3:1,vs.Ried 2:0) but Red Bull Salzburg is something different.
Salzburg have a good team, but a bit weaker than last season (this is my opinion of course). By the looks of things they wont have Hwang and Junuzovic available for the second match, and Leiner,Onguene and Schlager have some fitness issues as well.

In Crvena Zvezda only defender Savic is questionable but Babic is ready to fully replace him.

Salzburg have struggled against two Croatian teams (Dinamo and Rijeka) in couple of previous seasons and they were knocked-out by them. I see this Crvena zvezda side as strong, organized and hard to crack. Salzburg is legitimate favorite, but shouldn't be this big.

I think that if we lose on Wednesday it not going to be a big lost.
Therefore my pick will definitely be Crvena zvezda AH+1.
By the looks of things, the odds on home side are dropping so i will wait for a couple of days for better odds on away side.
(i'll probably try Crvena zvezda to qualify for small stake as well)

    Roma vs Atalanta
This weekend's Serie A fixtures throw up a few big games but in terms of value I'm going to avoid them and focus my attention on the Monday night kick-off at 7:30pm between Roma and Atalanta. Both teams won their opening games so something has to give here.
Roma will be looking to build on their 3rd place finish last season under Eusebio di Francesco. The club spent close to €100 million over the summer to improve their squad with new additions including Justin Kluivert from Ajax, Javier Pastore from PSG, and Steven N'Zonzi from Sevilla. The departures of Alisson to Liverpool, Radja Naingollan to Inter Milan, and Lukasz Skorupski to Bologna were big but overall the squad is arguably stronger this season.
Atalanta are enjoying a decent period in their history with the club once again qualifying for the Europa League after finishing 7th last season. The club has navigated their way past Bosnian side Sarajevo, Israeli club Hapoel Haifa, and now face FC Copenhagen over two legs in the Play-Off stage to reach the group phase of the competition.
Gian Piero Gasperini's side battered Frosinone 4-0 on the opening day. Little business has been done over the summer as the manager has simply looked to tweak what he has with the €14 million loan signing of Duvan Zapata from Sampdoria a particular highlight signing. Chelsea fans will also be keen to see how Mario Pasalic performs on loan.
Both of these teams will be competing to qualify for European competition next season. Any questions over Roma's defensive organisation being affected by Alisson's sale to Liverpool were quickly dispelled in their last game. The character showed to score late on against Torino is evidence that this squad still maintains a strong mentality that took them so far last season.
My feeling is that Roma should win this. My gut is saying to back a one goal win but I think after the lucky escape of last week they will produce a more convincing display here. Atalanta's performance last week tells us little given the weakness of their opposition. It's clear they're still an effective unit but coming to the Stadio Olimpico will be a culture shock compared to the Stadio Benito Stirpe last week.

    Sevilla vs Villarreal
After @Mr.Paul gave such a thorough analysis of those games above, I felt it was only right to cover one of the matches he hasn't gone over. Sevilla will take on Villarreal in a 9:15pm kick-off this Sunday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with the home side hoping to build on their opening day victory last weekend and the away side looking to earn their first points of the season. Please note that this game is kicking off 2 hours later than scheduled due to expected extreme hot weather so will kick-off at 9:15pm and not 7:15pm.
Sevilla opened their domestic league campaign with an awe-inspiring 4-1 away win against Rayo Vallecano. OK, so it was a game they expected to win but so emphatically? The fact that new signing Andre Silva scored a hat-trick will also leave the fans buzzing for this home game.
Villarreal suffered a disappointing opening day defeat at home to Real Sociedad. Javier Calleja spent big money during the summer with Gerard Moreno and Karl Toko Ekembi both being signed for more than €15 million each. So to start the season with a loss was frustrating for owner Fernando Roig. If they were to lose this game as well then it would be heading down the route of unacceptable.
I will be the first to admit that I thought Sevilla's appointment of former Girona manager Pablo Machin was speculative at best. However, I've been very impressed so far. The White and Reds only narrowly lost to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup, they are bulldozing all opponents in the Europa League, and have started well in La Liga.
Based on the matches so far, I think Sevilla are firm favourites to win here. Silva is going to be a player to watch if he keeps looking as lively in and around the box as he did in the game against Vallecano. Machin had a hell of a job evolving the club with so many departures and arrivals over the summer but so far, so good. I'm happy to back them right now.

Below are my 6 betting tips for the 2nd round from La Liga and I will try to add a short preview of each of my bets:

    1. Leganes - Real Sociedad
The bookies offered here very low odds for at least two goals scored here and that is quite strange because neither of the teams have a strong defence and individual mistakes can be very often at this kind of teams. The guests are definetely the better team but on small stadiums like this one, the home team can produce little surprises and I see them also scoring at least once.
    My bet: Over 2 goals @ 1,74

    2. Alaves - Betis
After the big defeat from the 1st round, the guests have to improve that bad memory and replace it with a posstive result against a small team. Betis want to catch en European rank so their ambitious should be bigger. Even if Joaquin is doubful, Tello can bring that sunshine in guests' eyes. Another interesting fact is that this gound is one of the guests' favourite, they manage 4 wins in 6 visits.
    My bet: Betis AH 0 @ 1,92

    3. Atletico Madrid - Rayo
I expect this season the hosts to be a bigger enemy in winning the championship because their defence is strong as in the last season, but they also improved their attak. The guests are alongside Valladolid the weakest teams from La Liga in my opinion, with the biggest chances to move back to Segunda. This match can be considered a little derby, but I really can't give any chances to Rayo.
    My bet: Atletico Madrid -2 @ 1,92

    4. Girona - Real Madrid
The guests changed their coach but they still remain very dangerous on their own ground. Moreover, Real conceded at least a goal in their last 4 away games from La Liga. Last year, the hosts managed to get the 3 points against Los Blancos and I believe that this match won't be so easy as the bookies are offering the odds.
My bet: Both teams to score @ 1,75

    5. Levante - Celta Vigo
I can't say that I am a fan of the hosts, but with Jemez as coach, this team became stronger especially at home, in front of their fans. Very balanced odds here, but in my opinion Celta will leave the city without points because their defence isn't in the best shape. I see Levante scoring once or twice and they should keep their goal clear.
    My bet: Levante AH 0 @ 1,78

    6. Athletic Bilbao - Huesca
This little team of Huesca can and will produce more surprises this season and against Bilbao there are many chances to repeat the posstive result from the 1st round. Another interesting fact that I read today is that the hosts won at home only against 5 from 12 newly promoted teams in the last 23 years. Bilbao isn't a force(I don't think they will finish in top6), not even at home, but the bookies always consider them favourite year after year. I expect the guests to make a good game and they can smash at least a draw in this meeting.
    My bet: Huesca +1 @ 1,83

I can't guarantee that all my bets will be won, but I will play them single with a flat stake of 10 euros and I hope to make profit weekly.

    Salzburg home win 1.44? Wow!

    Chelsea vs Arsenal
Undoubtedly, the most high-profile game this weekend is the London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal in a 5:30pm kick-off this Saturday night at Stamford Bridge. The two clubs go head-to-head early on into their new regimes and the opening weekend delivered contrasting fortunes for both managers.
Maurizio Sarri earned praise for the manner in which his side comfortably eased past Huddersfield with a 3-0 victory away. Yes, it was only a team that are widely considered amongst the favourites for relegation but the attitude by the players was far more encouraging than that against Manchester City in the Community Shield a week earlier.
Unai Emery has immediately come under fire from the Arsenal old guard for his approach to their opening game against City last weekend at the Emirates Stadium. Confusion, a lack of organisation, and mystifying tactics were all identified as issues for Emery. A bit harsh given it was his first game trying to change the entire culture of a club that has remained the same and on the downward spiral for decades.
Anyway, this is another tough one for Emery. I bet he's thanking the Premier League fixture wizards right now. It's a no brainer for me. Chelsea should have enough at home to pick up the win. Arsenal are going to take time to gel. There was minimal change at Chelsea when Sarri came in. Thibaut Courtois has left but his departure has been smoothed over with the signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga. Eden Hazard is staying on, or so it seems. Things are looking brighter.
Emery still has some issues to address and this game could see a number of changes. Petr Cech could see his starting spot threatened by Bernd Leno after an unconvincing display. The likes of Lucas Torreira, Alexandre Lacazette, and Stephan Lichtsteiner could also be pushing for starts.
Personally, I think over time that Emery will prove a decent appointment for Arsenal. It's going to take a long time to evolve the club after the stale Wenger era. Their pre-season was productive including beating Chelsea on penalties in the International Champions Cup tournament. I just think Chelsea at home as a more settled unit will be tough to take something against.
The fact Chelsea haven't lost to Arsenal at home since 29th October, 2011 shows how dominant the Blues have been against the Gunners on home territory. Since that game, Arsenal have come up against a couple of Chelsea teams that have been in complete disarray and still not beaten them. Turn things on their head here where Chelsea are more fluid and cohesive. It's seems a hard ask for the visiting side.

    Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid
The 2018 UEFA Super Cup will see a Madrid derby between Champions League winners Real Madrid and Europa League champions Atletico Madrid in a game that is set to be played this Wednesday in an 8pm kick-off at the A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn, Estonia.
This game summarises how superior the La Liga clubs are in European competition right now. The fact that this is Real Madrid's third consecutive appearance in this show piece event is a remarkable achievement. It is their sixth appearance in total and they have won on four occasions.
Real Madrid are entering a new era under Julen Lopetegui. After the chaos that his departure from the Spain national team job caused at the World Cup this summer, he has not exactly kept his head in the sand with the high-profile departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the hugely controversial signing of former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The signings of defender Alvaro Odriozola and attacker Vinicius Junior have also seen fans murmur both positive and negative sounds about the new head coach.
Things are slightly more settled with Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone remains in charge for his eighth consecutive season with the club. The double signing of Thomas Lemar and Rodri has set tongues wagging about how this could be the season that Atletico finally win their first La Liga title since 2014. The departure of Kevin Gameiro is unlikely to dampen the optimism.
It's always hard to tell how these semi-competitive games will go. I just have a feeling that the familiarity and experience that Simeone has with his players could well trump the fresh ideas of Lopetegui. The jury are still out on the former goalkeeper as a manager despite the early signs proving encouraging. The Real Madrid job is one that can often be the fall of many a talented manager. Has he taken it on too early?
I really do fancy Atletico here. Losing Ronaldo is huge. He bailed them out a lot of times over the past few years. The idea that Gareth Bale will simply slot in and replace Ronaldo as the star man is outrageous. As good as Bale is, it's impossible to replace one of the greatest players of all-time let alone expect instant results as well. If Lopetegui doesn't manage this Real team brilliantly they could be in for a tough season.

Svetlana Kuznetsova (-3.5) to beat Kristie Ahn at 1.80 with Paddy Power
Mihaela Buzarnescu (-3.5) to beat Sachia Vickery at 1.80 with Paddy Power
Malek Jaziri to beat Evgeny Donskoy at 1.90 with Paddy Power
One of the last chances that I'm giving to Kuznetsova, but yeah, she should still be way too strong for Ahn, who's dropped down a level recently. Buzarnescu is a very straightforward pick, on the other hand, I don't rate Vickery all that much, she's just average and home conditions can only get you so far. Finally, Jaziri has always been quite useful on American hards and he has a 4-0 record against Donskoy. The Russian's run in Umag means nothing to me, everyone's beating Lorenzi these days and Dzumhur was a bit mental on the day.

    Hi All,
Have not posted for a while. Been learning/working/bashing/smashing my way through multiple machine learning courses, in the quest to become a top Data Scientist. Up to my eyeballs in data.  A few things pop out from last years English premier league season.
    1) Man United did not do the business against the bottom teams at home. They won 5 of 7 played against the bottom 7, but only scored 9 goals. Against the same opponents Liverpool /Arsenal scored 20 and Man City scored 23. LIverpool did not concede a goal against these teams at home.  Mourinho has to be less cautious against these teams at home. You cannot play 2 holding midfielders against WBA and Stoke etcetc
    2) Arsenal managed just 1 win against the top 6 at home last season (2-0 SPurs). Against the middle 7 teams they were deadly, winning 7 or 7 (goal diff of 20, best in the league). FIx the away form and they could surprise,  I could see them 3rd or 4th, because they will score goals.
I can't see beyond Man CIty and Liverpool this season (and I am a life long Man United fan , prior to 1976). They have the two best managers, and are playing the best football. I think United will be no better than 3rd, and Mourinho prob on his way by Feb. The man is a cantakerous prickly pear, with the charm of rottweiler. Seems like he is burning bridges pretty fast. For me United have no pattern of play, and everything just happens too slowly. His man management skills have deserted him, and he is gunning for confrontation with everyone. Maybe the modern game/player has left him behind ?
In today's game, player power is king. It seems to me that Mourinho has not learned his lesson from his last experience at Chelsea, and it will probably be repeated at Man United. Personally , I would love to see Potchetino (spelling) as the next Man U manager. He would be brilliant. Dignified, calm (but still in control), and somehow far more in touch with his players and his team context.
As good as his record is, I am not sure Zidane would fit at an Man U. He could be prime candidate in Feb (if Mourinho is floundering Zidane would be a floating free agent), but I think a lot of his success was because of Christiano Ronaldo.
Tottenham are going backwards in my opinion. They are probably treading water, but Liverpool and City have definitely stepped forward. So maybe going backwards is harsh, but definitely not advancing.  I feel that they will be a little stale after the world cup, and with no new signings. Can't see better than 5th for them...
I think out of the top 6, Chelsea will have a poor season. Conte was brilliant in his first season, and did not receive enough credit. Now Courtois wants out, and Hazard is probably in limbo. They lose a guy like Marcus Alonso (best left back in Premier league) and the s_t could hit the fan there. I think the wheels may come off the buggie !
Watford could be going down this season. They have sold some good players and a lot of what they had was created by Silva. Everton will be an interesting team, and I expect them to be 7th. Can they pick up the home form against the top 6? Their goal difference (at home) against the top 6 was For 3 Against 13, which was the worst in the league (Huddersfield, Bournemouth also had -10 goal diff against top 6 at home). They need to improve performances, and get the fans onside, at home against the leagues best.
Newcastle surprised me last season, especially at home. They had 3 wins against the top 6 (United, Arsenal and Chelsea), and finished with an excellent +2 goal difference.  Only Man U, Man CIty and Liverpool did better. So they are a deceptive team at home, and are more than capable of an upset or two.
