Any thoughts on this? I usually don't bet on cup games but the odds have caught my eye.

Good write up there @StevieDay1983 and good tip with Coventry to win.
Walsall were really poor, one of the poorest teams to visit the Ricoh this season. Their keeper made some brilliant saves to keep it to 3-0. We've been playing nice football most of the season but miss so many easy chances every game so it was nice to actually convert 3 of them today. I fear the worst next weekend away to Luton who are absolutely flying, but we managed to win there last season when they were top of the league so who knows.

    Blackburn vs Middlesbrough
The Championship is undoubtedly a cruel mistress @Tiffy and @sajtion. It's hard to muster the enthusiasm to back teams when it's essentially a game of roulette. Personally, I find that adds to the fun. I'm not going to be put off! I'm picking Blackburn versus Middlesbrough for my next preview which kicks off at Ewood Park tomorrow at 1pm.
Blackburn come into this game desperately needing to turn around a bad run of three defeats in the league on the bounce. Tony Mowbray's side had looked set to consolidate their place in the Championship after promotion from League One last season but Rovers are flirting with the danger of being sucked into a late relegation battle if they don't start winning again soon.
Middlesbrough have also failed to win their last two league games. Tony Pulis is winning no fans with his so-called "anti-football" style of play. However, Boro are in 6th place and continue to keep a number of decent teams outside the play-offs so you're unlikely to find any Middlesbrough fans complaining.
It wasn't that long ago that this was a fixture being contested between two seasoned Premier League outfits. Now, it's a classic Championship match-up. Interestingly, 5 of the last 6 meetings between these two sides have ended in a draw. Can I see the same happening here? It's not out of the question by any means. Neither side wants to lose this game so a point probably wouldn't be regarded as a poor result for either manager.
Rovers boast a very decent home record having only lost 3 of their 16 home matches this season. The bad news for them is that Middlesbrough have been just as impressive on the road with only 3 defeats in their 16 away matches. It's almost too balanced to call.
Most of the evidence suggests that I should be backing the draw but something inside me is egging me on to back a vintage Boro away win. I just feel their performances of late haven't been up to scratch. Then again, Blackburn have been off the boil too. I'll have to back a low-scoring match and back a draw no bet option for Boro.

Agree re Patrick thistle. I can see where you are coming from re Raith. Don't think it will be a victory by much as Raith have not been hammering teams. They can struggle to break teams down. The way Arbroath play (attacking) should suit them.

Hi all i try and not post unless i have a bet i really like, but this is just my view so make your own choices.

First pick is Partick Thistle away to Alloa in Scottish Championship.  There are signs that the jags are slowly turning the corner, and not before long, some solid form now in the championship, unbeaten in their last 4 games and coming off a two game win streak. This is not bottom of the table form and the away trip to perennial strugglers Alloa is welcome who are on a 3 game losing streak. (alloa are one of those limbo clubs, too good for SFL1 too bad for SFL championship so they always promote and relegate in subsequent seasons) This is a relegation season for Alloa . The board have backed the jags manager by allowing him to sign old compatriot Scott Mcdonald. His experience is very valuable at this level and i believe he will score for fun in the Championship. Jags are a team to certainly a team to follow over the next few games.
    Take the Jags at 1.83

Second Pick is Raith at home to Arbroath. Kirkaldy is not a place to go if your Form is dipping.  Dont laugh a friend of a friend who knows someone from within Arbroath FC said the team was not playing well atm so should not back This was against Forfar two games back, i m kicking myself as i did not follow and  guess what Arbroath got pumped by 10 men 2-0. This was followed up with losing another slender lead at home to bad travellers Stranraer to draw 1-1. Is this a confidence wobble... i think away to tough opponents Raith who are in second spot is not a spot i want to be in atm
    Take Raith at 2.37

I'm on Cambridge and Scnuthorpe today both over/around odds of 2.5. Cambridge playing well at home and Tranmere hit and miss at best. I'd say the home side should be around evens. Scnuthorpe on form and playing without fear against a Gillingham side who seem very Jekyll and Hyde... but most of their impressive performances seem to come away from home when the pressure is off.

i have noticed team are playing not to lose first of all and that has seen very poor teams pick up unlikely draws. i don't see it changing much unless obviously the better sides step up but even some of those are having hard times getting wins. i just hate it you know when you pick a home banker and some useless team comes and shows more ambition, motivation and energy and take the lead and it pisses me off.

Sorry guys, been out the game for a couple of weeks as I'm off on my annual travels and internet connections where I've been are pretty patchy so I kinda gave up. Back on the mainland now though. Also the fact I've not been sober enough to make any sense.

    QPR vs Watford
The FA Cup 5th Round kicks off with Championship side QPR hosting Premier League outfit Watford at 7:45pm at Loftus Road. It's taking the opening night spot because clearly the TV producers think there could be the potential of a shock here. Me? I'm not convinced.
QPR were briefly looking like they could be Steve McClaren's big domestic redemption. The former England manager had some decent results at Derby but ultimately failed to achieve his aims. The London club were struggling after losing their opening four league games of the season but a run of decent results saw them become play-off contenders. It included a spell of just 3 defeats in 15 league matches. However, it's now 7 league games without a win including 5 defeats in a row leaving them in 18th place.
Watford are experiencing a more positive and consistent campaign. The Hornets are exceeding expectations under Javi Gracia with the club in 8th place in the top flight. They may well be 13 points off the European qualification spots but after being tipped to face a relegation dog fight by many it's undoubtedly pleasant reading for Watford fans to see their club flying so high.
It's been an interesting route for both sides so far in the cup this season. QPR pulled off a decent 2-1 win over Championship title contenders Leeds in the 3rd Round before needing a replay to dispose of League One side Portsmouth. Watford made light work of non-league Woking before a solid win away to Newcastle.
The last time these two clubs met in the FA Cup at Loftus Road was back in January, 1980. On that occasion, it was Watford that prevailed as the winners with a 2-1 victory. That said, QPR have only lost 1 of the last 5 meetings at home between these two clubs in all competitions.
Stats are generally favouring Watford though. The Hertfordshire club are on a run of just 2 losses in their last 13 matches in all competitions. The Hornets have also only failed to win one of their last 8 FA Cup encounters against sides from a lower division.
I think this game is there for Watford to win. Realistically, they're safe in the Premier League this season. They only need to win 3-4 of their remaining 12 league games to secure safety. So it should be a priority to win this competition. Unless Gracia is a fool he'll put a strong side out and want the win to book their place in the Quarter-Finals.

    Real Sociedad vs Leganes
La Liga throws up an intriguing clash this weekend when two teams busting a gut in the middle of the table and performing reasonably well at the moment go head-to-head. It's a 5:30pm kick-off on Saturday afternoon at the Anoeta between Real Sociedad and Leganes.
Real Sociedad are on their second manager this season after former head coach Asier Garitano was relieved of his duties on Boxing Day and replaced with Imanol Alguacil. The change of manager has seen Real experience a bounce in results with the club unbeaten in the league under Alguacil and in 9th place in the league. Drawing 4 of their last 5 in all competitions isn't superb but it's kept their undefeated streak going so a win here would boost morale around the club massively.
Leganes aren't doing too badly either. Former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino had a torrid start to their season with just 1 win in their first 7 league games. However, form has slightly improved and the club is now in 11th place and just 6 points off the European qualification spots.
Both sides come into this game in solid form. Real are undefeated in 6 league matches and Leganes have won their last 2 league games. The difference here will be that Leganes have only picked up 2 wins on the road all season. I can see Real continuing their good form under Alguacil and adding another three points to their tally.

    Preston vs Nottingham Forest
It's a tricky weekend of action in the Championship with a few midweek matches throwing a spanner in the works. After much deliberation I've decided to focus on Preston versus Nottingham Forest in a 3pm kick-off this Saturday afternoon at Deepdale with the home side hoping to continue their excellent run of results in the league.
Preston are riding on the crest of a wave with the club in 13th place and now just 8 points off the play-offs after an undefeated streak of 6 league games. That run has seen them take points off the likes of Swansea, Derby, and Norwich so it's been impressive. Alex Neil will certainly have one eye on gatecrashing the play-offs if they can extend this run a bit longer.
Nottingham Forest are showing glimmers of improvement under new manager Martin O'Neill. His appointment in mid-January to replace the outgoing Aitor Karanka wasn't exactly greeted with unrivalled joy. Many have labelled O'Neill a dinosaur after his ill-fated Republic of Ireland stint that was dogged by claims of negative tactics and conservatism. However, the Tricky Trees have won 1 and drawn 1 of their last 2 league games against Brentford and West Brom. This will be a tough game for Forest but definitely one O'Neill will feel they can get something from.
The Lilywhites have proven to be a bogey side for Forest over recent years. In fact, Forest haven't beaten North End in their last 5 league meetings and have lost the last 2. That includes Preston winning their previous encounter this season at the City Ground in a 1-0 win back in December.
Forest have been the draw specialists away from home drawing 9 of their 16 away league games. That can largely be attributed to the way Karanka set the side up during his spell so it's tougher to tell if this will continue under O'Neill. I'm sure he'll have them playing in the same manner on the road.
When I first researched this game I was all over Preston but Forest's midweek result away to West Brom and the win before that over Brentford has left a few question marks. I now think Forest might start building up some more positive results. The effort put in to get that draw in midweek might have sapped the energy levels though so I still think Preston could sneak a win.

    Coventry vs Walsall
A number of derby matches are taking place across the UK fixture schedule this weekend but the one I'm turning my focus to is one of the lesser-known ones. It's Coventry versus Walsall in a 3pm kick-off at the Ricoh Arena this Saturday afternoon and with just 39 minutes by train separating these two places there's a lot of pride at stake here.
Coventry come into this match having already lost to Walsall twice this season (even though both matches saw Coventry perform better) but they are also coming off the back of a solid 1-0 win away to Rochdale. That win saw the Sky Blues move up to 11th in the table. The play-offs are still a distant 10 points away but at least the small threat of relegation is looking even more unlikely now.
Walsall will be hoping to take away the bragging rights for a third time this season but they'll need to turn around this dire spell of form they're in. The Saddlers have now lost their last 4 league games making it just 1 win in their last 11 league matches. That form has seen Dean Keates's side drop to 17th in the table and just 2 points above the drop zone with most of the teams below them holding a game in hand.
The travelling side will be looking to their satisfactory away form to give them confidence here combined with the fact that Coventry have failed to win in their last three home league games. It's also just 1 win for Coventry in the last 7 meetings between these two sides in all competitions. Both teams have also scored in 6 of the last 7 meetings.
There is undoubtedly a psychological advantage Walsall have over Coventry right now in the head-to-head. I've felt the same as a Cardiff fan against Swansea over the years. The so-called younger sibling in the rivalry often raises their game to prove a point and it seems that's certainly the case here. Walsall are in the midst of an awful run of results though and I think this could be the game where Coventry finally turn it around to get the victory.

It is not one of the pairs we mention above - Malmö - Chelsea, but it is interesting. London's "blue" has targeted the trophy and, in particular, they want to wash off the shame of Sunday's heyday from Manchester City in the Premier League. Malm, in turn, comes from racing inactivity and is clearly the underdog of the couple, but she has nothing to lose and will have her chances. In particular, the match can have a good pace and enough goals

Olympiacos is a favorite, with the ace close to a 2.00. He does not have the best psychology after losing to Tumba but will fight for qualification. Karaiskakis can play his part. I will bet on the few goals, I expect the two teams to be cautious and not take the risk from the beginning of the match, every goal in this phase counts

Certainly both Lazio and Sevilla would want to avoid the fight so early in the game, but the draw was confronting them and we are dealing with two of the great favorites of the Europa League. Indeed, both do not care about the institution at all and will do everything to qualify. Given their quality in medium and will create phases in front of the opposing frames

    Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund
The Champions League action continues tonight when Premier League side Tottenham welcome the Bundesliga league leaders to Wembley for an 8pm kick-off. It's a finely poised tie where the home side will have to play without some of their key names in this first leg.
Tottenham are on a fine run of form right now. It's a strange occurrence given it's coincided with them missing some of their most recognised players. Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Son Heung-min were all recently unavailable but Mauricio Pochettino's side have gone on a streak of winning four league games. It's left the club in 3rd in the league and just 5 points off top with a game in hand.
Borussia Dortmund continue to lead the way in German football. Lucien Favre has guided his side to the summit in Bundesliga and the club is currently 5 points clear of second placed Bayern Munich. The team is undefeated in five league games but has drawn their last two league matches and suffered elimination in the DFB-Pokal on penalties to Werder Bremen last week.
This could be a tight game but I'm edging towards Tottenham to win this one. The home side defied the odds by qualifying for the last 16 after a slow start to the group stage that saw them take just 1 point from their first 3 games. However, 2 wins and a draw from their remaining 3 matches helped them through.
Dortmund found things slightly easier storming through as group winners after winning 4, drawing 1, and losing 1 of their group games. During that phase, Favre's men kept a clean sheet in 5 of their 6 group matches. It showed a solid defensive foundation. Something that Pochettino has become renowned for instilling in his Tottenham.
The away side will come into this happy with a draw but thinking they might sneak a win. Tottenham will undoubtedly be out to win this one and I'm favouring a narrow 1-0 or 2-1 win for the home side. I think Dortmund could have enough to breach the Spurs defence so I'll go 2-1.
