  1. I'm fascinated by these occasional 2 horse races ...... last time I picked the outsider of the two and lost

but I fancy the outsider of the two again today in the race at Huntingdon (12.45)

There's not much between the two...... bet365 prices

    Master Tommytucker 4/5
    Precious Cargo 11/10

The favourite is 2 lbs higher in ORs and they're running at level weights. The favourite has had a run this season, my selection hasn't

    Nicholls v Henderson

Basically I'm going off the favourite's jumping ..... he's fallen in 3 of his 5 chases. Even on his seasonal reappearance over the easy fences at Newton Abbott he managed to hit the 9th, blundered 10th and not fluent 2 out. The fences at Huntingdon are more difficult than Newton Abbott...... they're more on a par with Kempton and he's fallen twice there

My horse did fall on his last outing but that was in a competitive handicap at the Cheltenham Festival where he tired and fell near the finish. I'm also not worried by lack of a recent run as he's won on seasonal debut every campaign so far

Obviously not very sexy picking an 11/10 shot but I'm looking at it as an interesting puzzle !

  2. I do think sometimes trainers go over the top with meaningless blurb about the going

' Well, he's by Lightning out of a Thunder mare, they don't go on Good To Soft, Good In Places, he really needs Good, Good To Soft in Places'

I reckon they're trying to make it more Scientific to puff up their expertise, impress the laymen and warrant their huge training fees

Gosden is particularly bad for this

  3. Cheers Ipswich, good luck

I used to get unfeasibly excited about the Breeders Cup years ago but I've lost interest recently

The winners that stick in my mind are Arazi, Miesque, Royal Academy, Alysheba....... late 80s to mid 90s era.

Just seems to have become a bit bloated with the 2nd day and opportunities for the better horses to avoid each other and too many similar races. Sort of The Cheltenham Syndrome.

So I normally ignore the Friday altogether ....... and just watch two or three races on the Saturday. The ones with competitive British horses and the big race, though I quite often forget all about it and miss the races I intended to watch. Depends what else is on telly

If there's a superstar like Zenyatta or American Pharoah I'll try not to miss that
