  1. Re: Best Bet of the Day | Fri 8th Feb 2.05 Kempton 0.5 EW Russian Around An 8 runner race with four horses seeming to have the three places between them. The other 4 are all 33/1 or higher in the SL forecast. Two of the four have serious question marks against them....... Oscar Park -first outing over fences, could have chosen easier jumps than the stiff ones at Kempton given that he's managed to fall twice in his last five outings over hurdles. Out and out stayer as a hurdler, two and a half miles looks too short for him. Star Shot - seems best at 2 miles on good or good to firm ground. Tried 3 times at longer distances over the last year or so, beaten 37 lengths, 47 lengths and fell. The likely odds on favourite Barbers Shop is a decent type and is rightly favourite but he looks like a stayer and is coming back from a creditable effort over 3 miles last time. Shorter trip might not suit but his class entitles him to favouritism. Russian Around should be ideally suited by the trip, lightly raced, open to improvement, has already jumped round Kempton in a hot little 3 runner event and pulled well clear of the rest when a length 2nd, unlucky in running, to a hotpot last time out. With Barbers Shop at 10/11 and Russian Around at 6/1 in the SL forecast, it looks like an EW bet to nothing.........

  2. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 05/02/08 2.50 at Sedgefield - Unowatimeen First run of the season, first attempt at chasing, only it's fourth racecourse start, but in it's favour..... Won first time out last season, a bumper at Sedgefield on heavy ground. Then ran second, distance to third, in a novice hurdle Then after another break, came back and won a novice hurdle, beating Barbers Shop into second. That one has run creditably since including a neck 2nd to Big Bucks and a 4th in grade 2 novice race. Obviously goes well fresh and handles heavy ground. Trainer/jockey combo - one winner, 2 placed out of 3 runners at sedgefield this season. There's a lot of Fs and Ps in the form of the other runners........looks like a poor race with a possible odds-on favourite who fell last time out. 9 runners..........EW bet. Currently quoted at 7/1 in the betting forecasts. Negatives....... First time chase, it might fall over............ It's only 5.8/1 at betfair.............

  3. Re: How do YOU do it? I've had to give this some thought recently as I've only just, within the last 3 months, got back into racing after a lengthy lay-off Once I made the decision to take it up again I had a blank sheet of paper and had a good think about how to proceed. What I decided was to concentrate on the Grade 1 and Grade 2 races. This is where the heroes are, the horses that make the sport great I'm keeping two sets of records - horses and races I make notes on all horses who run in Grade races based on their past record. Looking for patterns to include obvious preferences for trip, going, track type, class of race, best fresh or with a recent run, field size, racing style, goes well with certain jockey etc. I also use one of the free ratings services and note the rating for each of these horses runs For the races I keep notes based on race type, eg 3 mile chases or juvenile hurdles........basically looking for 'what kind of horse wins them, what previous form had the winner shown', stuff like that. This doesn't take a lot of time as most Grade races have small fields and the same horses keep running in them That's the hobby side of it..........got to admit that I haven't had a single bet in a grade race this season I don't bet very much at all, one bet a week on a Saturday is my usual and I tend to turn into 'mug punter' and go for big ew doubles and trebles in handicaps............I haven't won a bet yet this season..........:unsure Obviously the intention is that at some point I'll restrict my betting to the races that I study and start aiming for a run of evens or 2/1 winners instead of aiming for that big jackpot..........Cheltenham would seem the obvious target for me to get my betting into correlation with my race study............

  4. Re: Doncaster 02/02/2008

Winner :nana Nice price too. Trotter - Calatagan was going ok but fell near the finish, not sure if it would have troubled the front two but ran well with credit and worth keeping an eye on it next time out. :ok
Yes........it was all going to plan........settled in at the back, moving up through the field........then fell !..........such is the fate of the mug punter.....but I'll be back for more...........:lol Well done on your winner.........:drums
  5. Re: Doncaster 02/02/2008

:welcometo Punterslounge Trotter' date=' good 1st post, nice to see some reasoning. I hope racing is still on there, best of luck with your horse, any idea what price we are looking at?[/quote'] Thanks for the welcome..........:lol I've been working this morning, so haven't followed the prices.......also might as well admit now that I don't understand internet betting or decimal odds or 'exchanges'..........I've just come back to 'the game' after about 12 years ..........I need to get up to speed !! Anyway, I popped in the bookies and took 16/1 EW..........so it'll go off at 25s.............:spank
  6. Re: Doncaster 02/02/2008 Hi folks........first post..........:unsure I've also been looking at that 3.00 pm at Donny and the one I fancy EW is Calatagan Class, going, distance, track all OK, small trainer had a couple of winners in the last few days The horse has very up and down results, but I've got an explanation or two........... His trainer reckons he needs to settle behind a strong pace.......he should get that here with several front runners in the field. Secondly he only seems to win at Wetherby.........I reckon maybe he doesn't travel well, hence abyssmal run LTO at Sandown.......his base is Malton in Yorkshire, so Donny shoudn't be a problem. ! There we go..........EW Calatagan, 3.00 pm at Doncaster.
