  1. Since I jacked in Racing TV a few months ago I'm having to watch ITV Racing

I haven't watched terrestrial TV coverage for 10 years or more and there's something 'new' (to me) that I find annoying ...... it's this idea of stopping commentary mid-race so the commentator can have a chat with whoever the presenters are

Could they not have a chat after the race has finished ?

    grrrrrrrrrr .............

  2. We've got a grade 3 novice hurdle at Thurles this afternoon

Usual pattern for one of these races .... tend to be a showdown between promising lightly raced types with not much form in the book against older horses who've often been running in handicaps and which might be a bit to high in the weights now so taking a chance in a conditions race

I'll go with one of the lightly raced types ... Captain Conby 9/4 bet365 - ....... looked quite impressive winning a novice race last time, eased down on the run in and won in a canter. Value of the form isn't clear though .... none of the beaten horses have run since

He comes from a smaller yard and is taking on runners from Mullins and Elliott but they look far from being stable stars and this could be one for the little guy!

  3. Couple of grade races which were on the abandoned card at Navan on Sunday are being run today ......

2.20 - Bit of a mess of a race with 5 non runners and a few chasers coming back to hurdling ..... a race to leave alone for betting purposes but for the sake of picking something I'll go with Longhouse Poet at 10/3 bet365 ....... he won a decent handicap last time, stays further which could be a plus on heavy ground and is in form which some of the others might not be

4.05 - Another race which has cut up with the overnight favourite now a non runner. Big odds on favourite is Farouk D'alene but he's very short at 2/5. Probably another race which is best left alone, I don't want to be backing 2/5 shots ! Again I'll pick something and go with Beacon Edge at 4/1 wm hill. He's already a grade one winner, conditions fine and has a habit of winning on his second run back after a break.

  4. 4 out of 8 in my grade races above ....... ends the day in profit despite a couple of odds on winners

1 out of 2 earlier in the week when I first did this ..... also finished in profit

Might make this my thing for a while ........ not too many races (until we get to the Festivals !) and obviously you're looking at the better class horses and races that you'd probably want to watch anyway with or without betting

Maybe warm up with the jumps for an assault on the Flat Pattern races starting in March

  5. Been looking a the bumper collection of Grade races today ...... and for a change have ben trying to use 'trends' though obviously there are limitations and problems with that approach ..... so this is a mixture of trends and old fashioned form and hunch etc. Prices bet365

Asc 1.50 - Doyen Breed 5/1 is a solid contender who acts in the conditions and has placed form in a grade race last time out.

Hayd 2.05 - Third Wind 4/1 won this last year and looks like he's been campaigned for this again, The danger could be Thomas Darby 7/2

Gowran 2.20 - Bit of a strange one for 'trends as the winning-most age group is 6/7 year olds and there aren't any in the field. I'm going with the 5 year olds ....... Teahupoo 2/1 has beaten Quilixios 11/4 twice recently and no reason to think he won't do it again

Hayd 2.40 - (Grade 3 Handicap) Sam Brown 13/2 finished 2nd in a similar race here last time and a repeat performance could see him winning today. Secret Reprieve 9/2 has form in these top level handicaps but does seem to save his best for Chepstow.

Winc 3.20 - Just leave this to Goshen 8/13 with Adagio 7/4 to give him a race and bring home a forecast

Gowran 3.30 - Just leave this to Melon 8/11 who looks better class than these and drops in grade. Daly Tiger 13/2 to chase him home

Asc 3.38 - Fakir D'oudaires 11/4 looks a grade one horse and comes over from Ireland which is generally a pointer. Mister Fisher 6/1 has been running in top races and regained his sparkle last time out

Hayd 3.50 - Green Book 9/4 looks solid. Could be vulnerable to one of the promising types stepping up in trip ..... Hillcrest 11/8 is a bit of a hype horse

    Happy punting !

  6. Couple of Grace races over hurdles this afternoon .......

Sand 2.20 - Love Envoi is an odds on favourite but I'll take her on with Nina The Terrier at 5/1 bet365

The favourite is climbing the ranks having won her last 3 in maiden and novice company but my selection has some form in listed races. Probably not much between them and the favourite might over-take my selection in time but for today I'll just go with the one at the biggest price

Clonmel 2.30 - Bookies can't separate the top two in the market ...... I'll take Shantreusse at 13/8 bet365 over Mr Fred Rogers. The latter has beaten my selection narrowly before but is prone to jumping errors so I'd rather back the safer jumper when there's only a length or two between them over 3 miles !
