  1. 3.41 Curragh - The Park Express

the traditional first group race of the season in these islands ...... and a first look at the battle of the generations as the 3yo take on the  older horses

Impossible to oppose Mother Earth as the class act in the field. She won the 1000 Gns on debut last season and spent the rest of the year globe trotting and running in Group 1 races in the UK, Ireland, France, USA and Far East, so she's obviously a tough cookie

    Well odds on though

Just a shame there's only 6 runners but I might just plump for something EW, probably to finish 2nd. BUT ..... traditionally O'Brien doesn't get firing until a few weeks in and if the mare has a globe trotting campaign mapped out again she might just be having this Group 3 race to blow away some cobwebs ...... so looking for an EW alternative is not absolute madness even with 6 runners

I'll go for a big outsider who is race fit from the AW at Dundalk and has run OK at Listed level and as a 3yo is getting a big weight allowance

    Sister Bridget - EW at 40/1 bet365

  2. 1.15 Donc - The Brocklesby

First 2yo race of the season and nothing much to go on ..... none of them have run before

You can look at breeding, sales values, trainer modus operandi.

At an EW price I'll plump for Blatant. The yard won this last year so obviously know how to get one ready early and at 20,000 guineas he represents a relative expensive purchase in this field. Having won this last year you might hope that the yard has targeted the race to try and  repeat the performance !

    Blatant - 9/1 EW bet365

  3. Since I jacked in Racing TV a few months ago I'm having to watch ITV Racing

I haven't watched terrestrial TV coverage for 10 years or more and there's something 'new' (to me) that I find annoying ...... it's this idea of stopping commentary mid-race so the commentator can have a chat with whoever the presenters are

Could they not have a chat after the race has finished ?

    grrrrrrrrrr .............

  4. We've got a grade 3 novice hurdle at Thurles this afternoon

Usual pattern for one of these races .... tend to be a showdown between promising lightly raced types with not much form in the book against older horses who've often been running in handicaps and which might be a bit to high in the weights now so taking a chance in a conditions race

I'll go with one of the lightly raced types ... Captain Conby 9/4 bet365 - ....... looked quite impressive winning a novice race last time, eased down on the run in and won in a canter. Value of the form isn't clear though .... none of the beaten horses have run since

He comes from a smaller yard and is taking on runners from Mullins and Elliott but they look far from being stable stars and this could be one for the little guy!
