richblue67
Am I alone at being disgusted at the way Clare Balding treated the winner of the Grand National today with regard to saying now he has won the race he can afford to have his teeth fixed!!!!!!!!!! What the fcuk has that got to do with the fantastic achievement of riding a 100-1 winner home in the comfortable style he did??? Im outraged at the embarrssment she put Liam Treadwell through in front of many millions of people in what should of been a moment of glory in the young mans life..................:@:@:@
Trotter
Re: Clare Balding I never watch racing on BBC now............they've dumbed down incredibly on the Grand National and Royal Ascot ( the only meetings they're interested in)........... It's all about 'human interest' and faux sob stories..........a bit like that music show where they audition people and they're only interested in the ones who's Mum died last year or who's dog broke his leg...........and how brave they are in the face of such tradegy............ You know the kind of thing.............'Dobbin, the horse who's come back from having his tail clipped in 2005..........such a brave horse and his jockey Paddy O'Flanagan, who suffered tradegy when he dropped a pound coin down a grid.........that was only 3 years ago and here he is, such a brave young man'........... Yaaaawn...................:zzz:zzz
billy the punter
Re: Clare Balding If I would've got hold of him after his ride on Ping Pong Sivola at Cheltenham he wouldn't have had any teeth left! ;) She may know him? If not, then there was really no need for her to say what she did. Not nice.
richblue67
Re: Clare Balding LOL billy I can understand that but at the end of the day theres absolutely no need for her personal comments today i just felt totally embarrassed for the guy when she asked him to grin for the camera!!! perhaps she has no mirrors at home!!!! Fat moo Balding makes Miss Piggy look like Miss World!! The beeb should be fined 150k for that and I'd give Jonafun Woss and Russell Brand her telephone number. :@

mowgli77
Re: Clare Balding I caught part of the BBC coverage before I went out to footy, they were interviewing a load of women on a hen party and asking them what they fancied for the national. It was cringeworthy - "I'm backing Music Bella cos my girl is called Isabella" etc. I don't know where these whores were from but their local Boots must have good sales figures for fake tan. :tongue2 As for Clare Balding, she was probably waiting for them to get pissed so she could take advantage and do some minge licking. :lol She's built like a prop forward and only fairly recently came out, was anyone shocked to know she's a rug muncher? BBC's Ascot coverage is horrendous, when you want to see a horses previous races and hear comments from trainers head over to Racing UK because BBC have that camp bloke on talking about the best dresses and hats to wear to racing. Ha, I saw that bit too. They asked the hen party who was the expert in the group and they pointed to one woman, who claimed her dad was a bookie. When asked who her idea of the winner was she said, "My Will, because its the favourite" :rollin
bowles10
Re: Clare Balding BBC coverage is absolutely diabolical. In years gone by, you would have had a preview programme on the Friday night (that disappeared!), then decent racing coverage, now we get fashion parade's, John fcukin parrot (cos hes a scouser!), clare "i'm andrew's brother" balding who seems to have turned into someone that knows little about racing which considering her roots, should be on a par with most. Riki Persaud, & some fat bookie who are both embarrasing with thier little one liners that dont really work. Ok, the GN is a sporting spectacle & i havent watched the recorded coverage from yesterday yet, but i doubt i will enjoy it & with the commentator missing what happens in the middle of the pack all the time just grates on me. FleetFanatic
Re: Clare Balding The coverage was shit throughout, halfway through and a scrolling list comes up saying who is out so far..... I'm thinking "I've not heard Rambling Minster mentioned anywhere yet"..... not mentioned on the scroller, not mentioned in the race..... it was only afterwards when they're replaying the race that they actually noticed he was PU at the 19th. Although I agree coverage is poor for true racing enthusiasts like us (and that RUK is much better), they are trying to appeal to a far wider audience. Cutting out the bollox such as talking to hen parties, looking at the fashion and including the sob stories will, IMO, increase their ratings. For every 1 of us disliking it, there's probably 4 or 5 of Joe Public enjoying the BBC's coverage The coverage was shit throughout' date=' halfway through and a scrolling list comes up saying who is out so far..... I backed Rambling Minster and they did mention it being pulled up just as I saw it anyway:ok

For every 1 of us disliking it, there's probably 4 or 5 of Joe Public enjoying the BBC's coverage so who used to watch grandstand etc? it was part of our Sat afternoon, sadly missed due to the more professional satellite channels showing RUK/ATR, Soccer Saturday etc. However, Grandstand could still appeal to the masses but due to the fact it was downgraded over the years & lost sport to Sky, it died. I still know loads of people who dont have sky tv etc so now they dont watch sport on tv at all as there is no alternative apart from the odd day like the GN. Fact is now you have to pay for your sport as its big money & the bbc etc want presenters that familiarise with the general public & i suppose the racing channels are more specialists. I am still watching the 4hr coverage & great comments from resident betting expert Gary Wiltshire about the market saying "I cant beleive how many horses are being backed in price", thats because the betting public will bet on all 40 FFS unlike normal races, also the bookies shorten everything on the day, its a known fact!! I would prefer a few more stats & perhaps some form lines of the principles rather than a story about the jockeys family or fitness plan. RussP
Re: Clare Balding Rob, I agree with you mate. It's just that I understand why they do it. They will never compete with the specialist channels, be it racing or other sports, so they try a different angle. Did I enjoy the coverage? No. But do I understand their reasons? Yes. :ok
RuleBritannia
Re: Clare Balding Out of interest. All of those who have access to Racing UK and BBC, which coverage were you watching on Saturday and why? And the same again, for Royal Ascot, do you watch BBC coverage or ATR? I sometimes tape Royal Ascot so the other half can watch the fashion!
JackJarvis
Re: Clare Balding I was out watching the racing yesterday in the town. I find BBC embarrassing. For our sport, it really is terrible, I actually can't stand all these £1 a year punters saying they know this and that. The BBC seems to suit them. I just cringe at some of the stuff they come out with, and I am only 19.... but I do know my racing and I do know the BBC racing coverage of the Grand National is made for 58 year olds who bet once a year.... Pardon me but that is not what we need, piss off I say!!! :@
diamond1924
Re: Clare Balding I watched the race live at the football, about 50 or so of us went out to the concourse to watch it then back in to see if the game had mysteriously sprung to life. Was working early this morning so had a small bevvy watched MOTD then the beeb replay. I don't mind their presentation, it probably appeals more to the one off punters but it takes all sorts, one of my mates doesn't know the front of the horse from the back, but had the winner because his burd liked the name (or was it Liam's teeth?). The national day is so special day, we need to share it and live with the intrusion into our wee world. That said, def prefer ATR/RUK every time.
