Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread

26th September 2007 - Goodwood 4.05pm 1m1f192yds Listed Race Class 1, Good ground The race revolves around Godolphin as they have 3 runners in a field of 6 and the monopoly on the race in recent times, winning it in 2006, 2005 and 2003. 4 favourites have won the race in the last 10 years but only one 3 year old has won this race in those ten years, which does not look good for the favourite Kirklees. Kirklees is one of only two 3 year olds in the race and Godolphins 1st choice judging by Dettori taking the ride. Formal Decree ran some decent 9f races at Nad Al Sheba but most of its form here has been in handicaps. It ran in a Group 3 last time out over 9f but was well beaten by about 13 lengths and finished 6th of 7. I don’t think it has the class to win today and may be slightly overrated. Likes the ground and trip but falls short of being good enough. Illustrious Blue also has a lot of form from handicaps but finally stepped up to group and listed races in 2007. It won a poor listed race last time out over course and distance and its overall record here is fantastic. 7 races here, 5 wins and two 3rds. Good ground is expected today and it has had 9 races on good ground, 7 wins and a 3rd. Seems to be at its best around August/September and has improved under Paul Doe who has ridden it 12 times, 6 wins, two 2nds and one 3rd. Those stats can’t just be ignored and this has a serious chance at this level. Ordnance Row looks to need softer ground and may not run if the ground is not suitable so wait for a decision on that before betting as a rule 4 would affect any winnings. Never won over this far, only 1 win and 1 third from 7 runs on good ground and only one 2nd place in class 1 company. Unfancied today. Windsor Knot is another from the Godolphin stable but has had a 347-day lay off and their runners seem to need a run to get going lately. It is fairly consistent at this sort of level but has found little on a few occasions it has been in a battle and you have to question its will to win. Ground and trip should be ok but looks to be stable 2nd string with McEvoy on board and unlikely to be good enough again. Al Tharib doesn’t look good enough but you discount Stoute’s runners at your peril when he is in form. Ground and trip should be fine and Hills rides today and gets on well with the horse. Its 2 victories have been at class 3 level but has fallen short at Group 3 level and possibly outclassed again. It is the other 3 yr old in the race. Kirklees is Godolphins 1st choice and really looks like the one to beat, despite the 3yr old stats being against it. It went from maidens to Group 2 races and has not been disgraced and also was snapped up by Godolphin from Mark Johnstone. It had picked up prize money of £3.886 until Godolphin sent it for an Italian Group 1 and it then won £177.480 from that race. It stepped up to 10f last time out in a class 2 race and travelled like a dream, quickening clear for Dettori and being eased before the line. The form of that race or the Italian Group 1 is nothing special but I can’t see this horse contesting listed races for much longer after this race. It has placed form here in a Group 2, won on good ground, and won over 10f last time out. Highly progressive and worthy favourite but has Illustrious Blue to beat. Suggested Bets: 25 pts WIN – Kirklees 5 pts WIN – Illustrious Blue
Nice write up and easy winner.:clap:clap

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread

I agree with you about Kirklees Mowgli although his Doncaster form does look a little suspect after Salford Mill's run at Newbury. The others he beat were not up to much. Have saved on Kirklees at 1.99/1. My main bet though is Ordnance Row. Yes it may not run but it was available at 14.5/1. On the form of its run at Salisbury (Group3) it has a good chance if the fav does not run to expectations. When he won at Sandown on Good going it was his best run (to that point). So if the ground remains good surely must have a better than 6.45% (14.5/1) chance. As for the QE2. At this point I would certainly make Darjina fav with Ramonti 2nd fav, George and / or Excellant Art not far behind Ramonti. It is not Mr Washington's form but his temperament that makes him a lay. Ginge
Ordnance Row looked well beaten and was ridden along early but found plenty and was given a good hold up ride, quite impressed with that one. Kirklees won quite comfortably but the race was run at a slow, false pace, certainly not suiting Illustrious Blue and hard to know what to make of that form. As for the QE2 I won't back GW until I've seen it down at the post, if it sweats up and is on it's toes it's LAY LAY LAY. I expected GW to maybe step up to 10f, will definitely be a cracking race.

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Suggested Bets: 25 pts WIN – Kirklees (won @ 8-11)- 43pts returned (+18pts) 5 pts WIN – Illustrious Blue (lost, -5pts) +13pts for the day Expected SP was about 7/4, 15/8 on RP site, checked Betfair last night and it wasn't even odds against. Would normally avoid such bets at these odds but a short priced winner is better than a long priced loser. :ok

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Thursday 27/09/07 Not exactly listed or group class racing but a decent class 2 contest that is over a trip I favour. Gulf Express 3.50 Pontefract I pay specific attention to certain trainers sending 1 horse to certain courses and Stoute at Ponty fits the bill. He sends just Gulf Express today and it is a progressive 3 yr old that ran on strongly last time out over 10f on good to firm. Those are the expected conditions and trip tomorrow and hard to ignore Stoute when he keeps firing in the winners and has a good record here. May not have beaten much but hard not to be impressed when a horse quickens away and looks strong at the finish. Has Many Volumes to beat and that got a timely form boost with Kirklees winning but has tried and failed on a few occasions. Not the best race for favourites but four 3 year olds have won this in 10 years and this can make it five. Only a small field but should go a good gallop with Zero Tolerance blazing the trail. Suggested Bet: 15pts WIN

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Gulf Express wins at 5-4 15 pts staked today Won @ 5-4, 33.75 pts returned (rounded up to 34pts) +19pts for today Many Volumes looked a real threat and probably should have won but Ryan Moore got 1st run and Hughes maybe mis timed his run by a fraction of a second or so to miss out by a neck. Close race and both 1st and 2nd look to be decent animals, can probably score at listed level but not so sure they will win group races. Hoping to have 1 lined up for tomorrow, will check form and post it up later on. :ok

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Yeah nice winner today, having backed Many Volumes myself I thought Hughes gave it a sh!t ride to be honest, switch the jockeys round and I think you get a different result but credit to Ryan Moore and your selection mate. Look forward to the next preview :ok

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread 28th September, Ascot 3.45 1m4f, Listed race, Good ground Interested in 2 today, one short priced and one double figures. The first is All My Loving from the O’Brien stable. A quick glance at the formline reads 1-2-3-2-3-2 and you could be forgiven for thinking it is a bit of a bridesmaid horse, just falling short each time. When you look into the form you see just how good the horse is and the horses it has been beaten by are certainly not ordinary: 2nd to Hi Calypso (Group 2) 3rd to Peeping Fawn (Group 1) 2nd to Silkwood (Group 2) 3rd to Light Shift (Group 1) 2nd to Light Shift (Listed) All the experts suggest it needs softer ground but it has placed 3 times on good to firm and won on good ground. It is the one to beat today and not many genuine group performers run in listed races at odds against so if it does start at around it’s 5-4 expected SP that could look like real value by about 3.50pm. The 2nd horse is Mont Etoile, disappointing lately but was staying on last time out over 10f and definitely needs this 1m4f trip. Course and distance winner from 2006 (Group 2 Ribblesdale) and is better on firm ground. 5thlast time out over the shorter trip but was only about 2 lengths behind the winner and wore a visor that day that is disposed of today. It was ridden prominently 2 runs ago and set the race up for Queens Best but was held up last time by Tom Queally and ran better that day. He takes the ride again and needs to deliver the horse late, about 2f out to get involved. Turned out fairly quickly and although it is becoming frustrating to follow I feel it can come back to form sooner or later and will take a chance on it at expected double figure odds. Has run 3 times on good, last time out over 10f, in a group 2, and in the St Leger (Group 1, 1m6f) so not totally disgraced on this ground. Brisk Breeze is too short for me and could be one to lay, it has been put into contention in plenty of races and failed to deliver, often looking one paced:

Brisk Breeze tracked leaders, not much room on inner and switched right 2f out, soon ridden and every chance entering final furlong, driven and no extra last 100yds Brisk Breeze set modest pace, ridden over 2f out, headed inside final furlong, kept on same pace Brisk Breeze tracked leader after 3f to over 3f out, driven and chasing leaders after, never quite pace to challenge Brisk Breeze pressed leader, led over 2f out, ridden and headed 1f out, one pace after Brisk Breeze in touch, ridden over 5f out, headway over 3f out, led narrowly over 2f out until over 1f out, every chance until no extra near finish
Some of the others have only handicap form and many look like they will not be good enough on the day so I’ll stick with the 2 pointed out above. Suggested Bets: 30pts WIN – All My Loving 5pts EW – Mont Etoile

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread :cryI'm shocked and gutted, the horse that I thought had no heart actually goes and outbattles the one I really fancied. Backed All My Loving last night and again at lunch. :wall Could have been worse though as I was also going to lay Brisk Breeze. Full credit to the horse, got involved in a battle and came out on top. I thought Kinane went a furlong too early on the fav but it still should have been good enough to win. I don't back many under 2-1 unless I'm very confident and realy thought it would hose up today.

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Saturday 29th September 2007 Ascot 4.20 QEII Stakes, Group 1, 1m, Soft ground The rain at Ascot has changed the ground to soft and also changed the race completely, with 3 horses now non runners leaving us with a field of just seven going to post. Here are the individual previews: Blue Ksar Likes ground with cut and soft will be no problem and Godolphin have a good record in this race. Stayed on strongly at Pontefract in a 1m listed race recently but is probably more at home in listed and group 3 contests. Still has to be respected and is a big price for a decent stable. Likely to fall short today. Cesare Usually ridden by Jamie Spencer but he is on Excellent Art and this horses best recent form has been on good or good to firm. Had some form on soft but that was back in 2004/2005. Has won a Group 2 race over course and distance but that doesn’t look the strongest of races and I don’t believe this is a Group 1 winner waiting to happen. Ramonti Fantastic record over 1m and has beaten some decent sorts at the top level including Excellent Art, Jeremy and George Washington. Beaten 2 lengths by Darjina last time out and had every chance but could not trouble the winner. Dettori was pretty confident about its chances but that was before the recent rain. Looks to be better suited by firmer ground. Stormy River Genuine excuse for last poor run and scoped badly. Before that it had won a Group 3 in France and being 3rd to Manduro over 9f when beaten 10 lengths but was ridden in last place so probably a tactical error. Has winning Group 1 form and was 2nd in the St James Palace Stakes in 2006 behind Araafa. Possibly over priced at around 20-1 with William Hill for a horse that goes on the ground. Duke Of Marmalade Unraced on soft ground but has shown it is a decent sort when 4th in the 2000 Guineas, 4th in the Irish 2000 Guineas and 2nd to Excellent Art by just a neck over course and distance in a Group 1 in the St James Palace Stakes. Has run respectably over 10f behind Dylan Thomas and Authorized but better suited to 1m. Has Mick Kinane on board and I think he could win this race tactically if kicking clear and leaving Spencer with too much ground to make up on Excellent Art. A lot depends on if it runs well on soft but nice price at about 9-1. Excellent Art Only just beaten by Ramonti last time out but was niggled along and left too much to do under a hold up ride by Spencer. Has won on heavy and placed on soft which is probably why most punters are opposing Ramonti and Darjina and lumping on this one instead. Surely even Spencer can’t find trouble in running in a 7 horse race but I think the value may have gone and I’m not sure the horse is as good as what people think. Darjina Fillies have a dreadful record in this race and the trainer has mentioned how it is unsuited by soft ground before. Softer ground was blamed for its Ascot defeat and it is drifting alarmingly. Beat Ramonti fair and square last time out and had the run of the race but will have to be very good today taking on the colts again. Short enough price considering the trainers concerns and opposed based on the soft surface. Suggested Bets: 5pts EW – Duke Of Marmalade (9-1 William Hill) 2.5pts EW – Stormy River (20-1 William Hill)

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Ask 3.45 Ascot Looks like a 2 horse race to me between Honolulu and Ask. One has just come out of a race in the Leger and the other has been off with injury. Ask's form from the 2006 Leger looks pretty solid and it also beat Scorpion at Chester. Reportedly been working well on the gallops and Stoute has his decent horses in good form. Ryan Moore takes the ride and should get a decent tune out of the horse today. Will go on the ground, suited by the trip and is better than Group 3 class (todays race). Honolulu is the danger but is short enough. Suggested Bet: 10pts WIN - ASK (3-1 William Hill)

Well done Phil' date=' get the impression you needed that![/quote'] All the good work i'd done with finding a few winners was nearly undone with All My Loving getting 2nd the other day. Lost a fair bit on that one. :$ I'll get my totals updated later on.

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Friday 5th October 2007 Newmarket 3.50 Listed Race 1m4f Good ground The 2 that are likely to head the betting look to be the two to concentrate on. Galactic Star will be well supported as it hails from the in form Stoute yard and has Ryan Moore on board. It is progressing with every run and has won both races when stepped up to this trip but only in handicap company. Could improve to win at listed level but still has to prove that today. The other that should be well backed is Soapy Danger. This horse has progressed from class 4, class 3, class 2, group 3 and group 2 and is really top class. It's only poor run was when it finished lame and it always gives its best. It's formline is magnificent: 2-1-2-1-2-1-1-1-5-2 so you know you will get a run for your money. Fantastic effort last time out after a long lay off and will have come on again for that run. Was progressing well before injury and can continue that upward curve today. Has won here but on the July course and that was over 12f, versatile regarding the ground having won on good to soft, good to firm and standard and placed on good. I'm hoping to get somewhere around 2-1, it was around 15-8 on Betfair when I looked but may wait till tomorrow for non runners etc. Take whatever price you can and lump on as I think this has a really good chance. Suggested Bet: 20pts WIN - Soapy Danger

Now 2.94 @ betfair so just touching 2/1.:ok Good Luck with this for tomorrow.:hope:hope
I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but Munsef was the definite value at 14-1. There was something wrong with RP site last night, none of the racecards had any expected odds on so I only took notice of Soapy Dangers price on Betfair. The 2 I thought would contest the race finished 1st and 3rd with Munsef in between in 2nd. Not watched the race back yet so hard to comment on it at this moment in time. Only beaten a head and 1l into 3rd so sounds like a close finish.

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Just watched the race and it was fantastic. Ryan Moore rode his horse to perfection and once again highlights why he is the jockey to follow. He stalked the horses and held his horse up showing it's not only Jamie Spencer that can hold them up and win. He moved up to about 5th place with 4f to go, got 1st run and just got there on the line. The one to take out of the race was Munsef, who was very unlucky. Stuck behind horses, Hills looked like he had a double handful but there was nowhere to go, it took it nearly a furlong to pick up but it was flying at the end, will be interesting under same conditions and trip or maybe over a furlong further. I could be quick to criticise Hills but I felt he was just unfortunate, trapped in and Moore had already got 1st run. Soapy Danger was a bit disappointing but still managed to get 3rd place. Strange tactics by Darley who set a slow pace and the race was 7 seconds slower than standard. The horse stays all day but he set a sedate gallop and got outraced by the winner and 2nd, should have made it a stronger stamina test but he'll have his day again soon. I felt Crime Scene had every chance but just couldn't go and win the race. A massive :ok for Racing UK too, I've only just ordered it with the Setanta package and they replayed the race from loads of angles and from above and it highlighted Moores great ride and how Munsef was trapped with nowhere to go, very good coverage today of this race.

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Unlucky mate, have to agree with Racing UK, by far the better of the two channels, with much better presenters, listen to James Willoughby when he's on, you can learn all sorts from him and how he reads races. Nick Luck made me laugh today when summing up the race you backed in, did you hear him say if Munsef got the gap he would have won but if my auntie had balls she would be my uncle!:rollin Classic stuff, lots of good replays after racing too, if ever you miss a race for some reason or cant record it there is plenty of opps to catch it later.

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Plenty of quality racing today from Newmarket and Longchamp and plenty of short priced well fancied horses. I'm going to concentrate on 2 races: Newmarket 3.20 The 3 at the head of the betting are all closely matched but races don’t always finish with all 3 involved and there are 2 to have small ew bets on in this race. Harvest Queen has run well at lower class than this but looks the sort to naturally progress to group races and quickened clear in May at Goodwood, which was impressive. Gets the 1m trip well, probably prefers the ground a bit quicker but won last time out, is in good form and quickened up again that day and the turn of foot could be important today. Worthy of ew support at the price available. The other is Majestic Roi. It’s last 2 races have been over 7f but it has been running on well so the step up to 1m could be ideal. Another that may prefer quicker ground but looks to have an ew chance at a decent price. Form falls a bit short of what is needed so has to be at its best and the dazzler also seemed to think it might have an ew chance when he was on the morning line. Echelon is in the form of its life and goes well for Ryan Moore but will not have it easy with Simply Perfect and Nannina likely to push it close. Hard to split those 3 and wouldn’t be looking for a short priced win bet in this race, would rather go for smaller stakes ew bets on the 2 mentioned. Suggested Bets: 2.5pts EW - Harvest Queen (18-1 Totesport) 2.5pts EW - Majestic Roi (20-1 Totesport) Longchamp 2.25 Red Evie Another one of my favourite horses runs today, Red Evie and must have some chance at a massive price. Was beaten last time out by Echelon in a Group 1 over 1m but goes over 7f today. Has won over 7f already this season in a Group 2 on good to soft. Plenty of other improving horses in the field such as Tariq but this horse has bounced back to form last 2 runs after 2 other disappointing efforts. Likely to be her last race and would be fantastic for her to sign off with another Group 1 victory. Spencer goes over to France and takes the ride and 12-1 looks over priced for a proven Group 1 performer. Suggested Bet: 2.5 pts EW - Red Evie (12-1 Sporting Bet)

Awesome, Philip;) Cracking winner for the Dazzler, seemed to be staying on at one pace from about 2f out but just seemed to pick up the others no problem. 20/1 mate, I've told you before to stick to those big priced animals. Well done:clap:clap:clap

Re: Mowgli77 Specialist Thread Just hoping the stewards don't take the race off it now. I was probably more confident on Harvest Queen but there was no way I was taking short prices on Echelon or Nannina. Great ride from Daryll, didn't think he was capable. :lol Nice enough bloke but not the best jockey in the world. It was the comments about it running on well over 7f that stood out for me and at 20-1 it was worth its chance ew at this level. :ok Here's hoping yours do the business now for your specialist thread too Russ . :hope
