StevieDay1983 Posted April 13, 2018 Author Share Posted April 13, 2018 Sevilla vs Villarreal A number of matches took my fancy in La Liga this weekend but one stood out as a game that will really grip me. Sevilla versus Villarreal at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in a 12:00pm kick-off tomorrow lunch-time. It is a game between 6th and 7th place in La Liga with both teams separated by just 1 point. Now, the bookies are heavily fancying the home side here with them being offered below 2.00 for the win. There is no doubt that Vincenzo Montella's side should be favourites but so short? I'll admit I've been wrong with them a few times this season but this game is far from a dead certain home victory. There are a few reasons I think Villarreal are worth backing for at least the draw. Sevilla will be flat on their feet after their hard-fought aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich during midweek. The gut-wrenching emotional impact of that narrow Champions League exit will definitely have some impact on the squad's morale heading into this game against a fresher Villarreal. Montella might have done well with his side in the cup competitions but his form with Los Rojiblancos in the league has not quite reached the standard you'd expect for a squad full of the quality it possesses. Since he took over on 28th December, 2017, Sevilla have won 5, drawn 2, and lost 7 of their 14 games in La Liga. Only 2 of those wins have come at home. Villarreal do not have a bad away record in La Liga either. They have won 6 and drawn 3 of their 16 away games. So they know how to get points away from home. Fran Escriba has worked miracles to keep them fighting amongst the big boys with a squad that needs freshening up. I'm expecting this to be a pretty attacking game. The away side will fancy the win here. It's hard to tell how leggy Sevilla will be after that midweek European disappointment. I just think Villarreal will be more prepared and backing them to take at least a point at the odds being offered seems like a reasonable option.
