Convey NAP 7/4 Bet365
Sir Micheal Stoute and Ryan Moore team up here for a big prize and Convey can follow up his Winter Derby victory here. Been gelded in the close season and looks an improved horse and looks as though this trip could be the key to more improvement this season. Comes from behind so Moore will be looking to find a gap and pounce late.

Newcastle 3:25. Good Run @ 8/1 bet365

Good Run.....that's what I need from him today, the 4yo from Saeed bin Suroor yard he has won three times from 1m 1f to 2m including a win on the all-weather which was over 2m 0.5f here last November before a winter break ,

That winter break ended 23 days ago here over 2m 0.5f when running 2nd beaten by 0.75 lengths by Gavlar which is a fair result after handicapper hit him for 5lb rise and first race back after break and they hit him again with another rise of 3lbs but yard bring in Adam McNamara who gets 3lb allowance off ,

The yard also having the blinkers on for first time which usually gives some improvement and the dropping back to 1m 4.5f although never ran a race that distance , I don't expect it to be a problem having won at 1m 1f and 2m

2.55 Newcastle: Class 4 Handicap, 7f

Against the odds I feel Ruth Carr's five year old gelding Chaplin Bay looks an overly big price on his seasonal reappearance. He ran well as a fresh horse in the past so it would not be a surprise to see him return to form.

He seems to be an exposed sort on turf, however not so much on the sand, where in two career starts he finished runner-up in a Dundalk maiden and fourth in a hot Handicap last season.

Off his current mark he may could still find a bit of improvement on the All-Weather; in fact his breeding suggests there might well be more to come. Fastnet Rock offspring outruns the odds year after year, even more so over the 7f trip and very much so this season at Newcastle.

Selection:
Chaplin Bay @ 16/1 PP

3.00 Bath

WORDINESS @ 5/1 Bet365

Course winner who loves rattling fast ground, all his 4 turf wins have had ground with "firm" in the description.  His last win was off 20lb higher albeit 18 months ago but you only have to go back to last summer to find two defeats of less than 4l off marks in the 80's.  The short priced favourite is 0/11 on turf and hasn't even been placed.

3.25 Abareeq - 12/1 - Bet365

1m 4f is his trip so a slowly run race last time over 1m 2f could not have been any worse for him so we can put a line through that run. Even then he was hampered twice and ended up 5th of 6 in a bunched finish only beaten around a length. Step up back to 1m 4f will suit and with a bit more pace on 12/1 looks generous.
