7.10 Chelmsford: Class 6 Handicap, 1m

My attention is drawn to three horses here in this low grade Handicap. Favourite Bridge Of Sighs won a poor class 7 race the last time, however on his first try over 1m. His lightly raced profile, modest rise in the mark and 3lb claimer on board gives him a decent chance to follow-up.

Two form horses but at the same time with eye-catching runs the last time are Thermal Column and Menelik. The former on is clearly very consistent since changing yards.

Three starts in the last weeks resulted in a placed effort, a hard fought win and an eye-catching runner-up effort most recently. Off an unchanged mark he is a serious contender, although a poor draw makes life difficult.

Menelik is down to a very handy mark at the moment and has been placed the last two of his current rating off 60. He caught the eye the last time at Wolverhampton when he overcame a wide draw and engaged in a fierce fight for the lead early on.

He made allot in those first two furlongs of the race but eventually settled in fourth, tracking a mad pace. He travelled strongly around the home turn approaching the straight leading the pack but was soon headed by the eventual winner and worn down by him as well as the runner-up in the final furlong.

He still came clear a long way of the rest and wasn't beaten fast. Given that first and second came from way off the pace while he committed allot this rates as a very strong performance.

The slight drop back to 1m will help here, so will the kind draw. Most interestingly is the jockey booking. A good Irish 5lb claimer is over to ride this one race at Chelmsford. His allowance gives Menelik a prime chance in this field.

205 Market Rasen: Clondaw Banker 2/1 PP

Promising sort who i fancied at Cheltenham on his seasonal debut but found little at the end in a messy sort of race. Made no mistake next time at Sandown to win well and escaped a penalty due it being a conditional jockey race. Must be go well here and is due to go up 5lbs at least for future handicaps.

1.30 MR - Cloudy Bob - win at 10/3 sportingbet

handicap chase

my selection doesn't win very often, in fact about once a year. But his last 2 wins have come in November at this track on soft ground at around today's trip

He's now 2lbs lower than for last November's win

usually needs a couple of runs at the start of the season......last year he won on his 3rd run and today is his 3rd run. Beaten 3L last time over 3 miles on good ground......todau's trip and ground should be more suitable and I can see him winning this then becoming disappointing again until next November

C6.05 Cordite 25/1 Boylesports

I was a bit baffled why this one was as long as 25/1 and sure enough the money has started coming for it now. The horse has dropped to a really favourable mark now and the trainer has even booked the stables top 3lb claimer to make the mark even more attractive. The horse has been placed off a mark of 104 so this mark of 88 looks very favourable for a stable and jockey that are often profitable to follow.

6.40 Chelmsford

Kalon Brama has a good record around here, perhaps a tad unlucky latest but even that said wouldnt have won. Races off same mark today but up in grade and this clearly demands more.

Spritual Star won a claimer over CD last time out, this demands a lot more and that form has alreayd took a huge knock with Pool House running a well below par effort next time out this week.

Greenside has to be taken seriously but well worth taking on at current market price. Won after nearly a year off the track last time out at Newmarket bolting clear after being held up. 12lb higher today and switches back to polytrack however did win maiden at Lingfield. That said he has won from being held up which is not ideal around here in a race lacking some pace.

Big Whiskey too usually appreciates some pace however on what we know appears a little more suited to sitting more prominent. He was a really good 3rd at Kempton last time out when probably going to soon if sitting in behind could come good on first try around here.

1pt win Big Whiskey 9/2 bet365
