Xcout reacted to runadrum in Avongirl (Helen)
I visited Helen yesterday and she is happy and they are happy with her.
She moved to a ‘normal’ ward yesterday and is likely to stay there all this week.
I expect she will call in on PL sometime shortly, but she’s not doing the social media thing yet (for her, Facebook).
Thank you for your get well messages and that is happening.
Duncan.

Hi everyone
Shortly after Avongirl’s (hereafter Helen) most recent post on Tuesday afternoon this week, Helen was taken ill and two days later ended up in hospital. This led to a serious operation this evening (it is still Friday as far as I am concerned) but that all went well and I’m sure she will be back on here shortly.
I would say that she will explain more then, but the last 3 days are actually a bit of a mystery to her so we will see how it will be communicated.
Suffice to say, Helen is on the road to recovery and she or I will update on her progress shortly.
Thanks
Duncan

@Danshot
For years there have been heated debates about the pros and cons of Late Reg and it's relationship to ICM, +EV and guarantees, internet poker forums are awash with them... but when applied to the PL League, where cumulative weekly points make prizes in a relatively small field, most of those arguments remain redundant.
Is it actually right and proper that it's now possible for a player to late reg for a PL tourney after 39 minutes with 30 BB, especially when four or five players have already busted ? Last night the Late Regger was guaranteed a higher minimum point score... and joined the tourney after more than a third of the field had already been eliminated.
For years, the ten minutes Late Reg has been a simple courtesy for those who might arrive home late from work. We all began the tourney at more or less the same point and on the same footing. It was not something to be exploited, which is probably why the OP includes the caveat, "Late registration is fixed by PokerStars but we would appreciate it if players would register within 15 minutes. Persistent offenders may be excluded from the Home Games Club."
Why is it so difficult to comply with such a simple request ?

Thanks very much Ian. I'll set up a couple of dummy games tonight so I can see the blind structure. It may be that the 'slow' structure is closer to what we had, but in conjunction with 3000 chips may make the game too long. Perhaps we could run with regular in legs 1 and 2 and move to slow for the last one. Not sure about the PLO, could try 5000 chips but that may be too much.

Well done to Rivrd winner of leg 2 and also at the top of the table at the moment.
For leg 3 we have Pot Limit Omaha. I didn't set the game up immediately as PokerStars seem to be tinkering with the Home Game options again and I couldn't adjust the starting chips. I have done it now, and I think it will run the same as normal as the option for our usual enhanced 3000 chips was available. However this now seems to be the minimum option, so we could well be playing NLHE with 3000 for the final leg too. I don't want to adjust the speed of the blinds at this stage so we will just have to go with the best option there for the moment.

Yeh @BillyHills!!! and when are you going to have that vaccine ready by??? We don't care how you get rid of the virus, just get rid of it! I can probably guess the reason you haven't done it by now is because you couldn't be bothered, hanging out at Chequers with @Sir Puntalot and @StevieDay1983 eating Hobnobs and making a killing off the Belarussian league while the rest of us starve!!!
We've had enough of you guys, you better bring back the free money soon or we're off to run our own competitions. AND DON'T THINK WE WON'T!!! We've got Skype, we know how to play poo sticks, we know how to keep accounts and train pigeons to deliver coinage.
They say history doesn't repeat but it does rhyme, and things are looking very mid-17th century for you guys, I know the people will back me on this one - SO BEWARE!!!
PS - I've gone too far this time, I was bored, I'm sorry.

Borussa Dortmund vs Schalke
OK, so the game most Welsh people will be watching today is between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke in a 2:30pm BST kick-off from the Signal Iduna Park in what is a highly-anticipated Ruhr derby. Why? Well, Schalke have been adopted as the Bundesliga team for many Welsh people due to them constantly tweeting out in Welsh as well as English and German after signing former Cardiff and current Wales international Rabbi Matondo. Not sure why they do it but fair play to them!
Anyway, Borussia Dortmund head into this game in 2nd place and just 4 points off the pace of league leaders Bayern Munich. Head coach Lucien Favre has seen his team wins 7 of their last 8 league matches to keep up the pressure on the in-form reigning champions. Die Borussen have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three home league matches. It'll also come as no surprise that with all their attacking riches, now including the starlet Erling Haaland, that Dortmund haven't failed to score at home since January 2018.
Schalke are impressing under former Huddersfield head coach David Wagner. The team is in 6th place in the table but they were suffering a winless run of 7 league games before the suspension for coronavirus. The fact that 4 of those games ended in draws shows that it isn't necessarily losing games that has become a problem as failing to turn those draws into wins. Worryingly, Die Knappen have failed to score in any of their last 4 away league games but they have only lost 2 of their last 5 league games on the road.
It's difficult to see how this game will go. The old saying states that form goes out the window in a derby game. Throw in the wild card of first game back after a break for a global pandemic and we're seeing that we're in charted territory. On the face of it, backing the home side for a solid win seems to make the most sense. The odds on the home win alone aren't great so backing them to win to nil or even by a handicap is more appealing.

I log in to PL one hour after the tournament had began, and indeed late reg was still available, it was strange. Yet despite an early exit did not try to register again.

Jeonbuk vs Suwon Bluewings
Well, look at this! Speak of the bloody devils. It's only Jeonbuk up first against Suwon Bluewings in an 11am BST kick-off on Friday morning live from the Jeonju World Cup Stadium. The home side will be looking to get off to the perfect start in their defence of the league title they secured last season versus a visiting team that are the reigning Korean FA Cup winners.
Jeonbuk won the league championship by the skin of their teeth last season after pipping second placed Ulsan by a single goal on virtue of goals scored. Managed by Jose Mourinho's former assistant manager, Jose Morais, the club has won 5 of the last 6 titles. Last season saw the creative genius of Moon Seon-min help lead the team to glory but he's now moved on to pastures new at Sangju Sangmu. Can they replace the ingenuity offered by last season's top assist maker in the league? Last season's top scorer Ricardo Lopes is also no longer at the club. It poses some big questions for the squad with some big boots to fill. It's a lot of responsibility on new signings Murilo Henrique and Lars Veldwijk.
Suwon Bluewings are certainly a bit of a threat for the hosts in this opening game. Canadian international Doneil Henry and last season's K-League golden boot winner Adam Taggart are just two of the high-profile faces at the club. Last season's cup win distracts from the fact the team only managed an 8th place league finish last season. Lee Lim-saeng will be quietly optimistic that his team can rock the boat in this season opener.
It's always tough to call the first game of the season but with Jeonbuk having dominated South Korean football for a number of years now it's easy to see why the bookies back them. Morais has repeatedly re-invented his teams with huge success. This season he'll need to do that once again. Suwon will demand a higher finish because surely they can't rely on a cup win again for continental qualification. I think the home side should edge this one though.
