Xcout reacted to avongirl in Football Tipsters Challenge - Rules and Information *UPDATED 23/24 SEASON*
We are back with the 2023/24 Punters Lounge Football Tipsters Challenge Competition.
Season One 23/24 starts with this weekend's matches including the Friday night games of 18th August. Odds and selection threads should be up on Thursday.
Our football year will have 3 mini seasons of 10 weeks again with a week (or two) in between aiming to end close to the actual end of Season in May. Due to the number of drop outs we tend to get (and to reduce admin a little) I'm going to increase the size of Divisions from 15 to around 20, which will mean we'll likely have 6 Divisions overall with most of the rejoiners and newbies in Div 6. Depending on uptake this year I might need to extend Div 5 and 6 to allow everyone in.
I'm looking at the prize structure with the intention of paying 4 places in the top 2 Divisions and 3 places in the others. Will update before kick off.
All previous rules apply, including the All In option at £10 bank.
Everyone who completed last season will be automatically allocated to a Division as usual based on finishing bank. Everyone else, please post in the new player thread HERE - I'll remind All In Busteds to reapply; No shows need to reapply; New players welcome to join in.

Xcout reacted to Zilzalian in NAPS STATISTICS
Interesting but Just a few observations-
The ideal odds range is 11/10 to 11/4 with 2,451 wins from 6,967 selections and a profit of 391 points (ROI 6%).. This will never win the naps table?
My second observation is that many of the Punters entering the comp don't back their selections so it would be fair to say that all these stats are skewed?
One interesting stat that i would be quite interested in is the difference between the first week and the last week (or all 4 weeks) i strongly suspect the total odds would be quite large in the last week compared to the first.

Welcome to the forum. Check out the “At The Races” and “At The Dogs” sections if you’re looking for members’ views on what’s worth backing each day, or the racing tips page on the main site.
Not sure what you mean by “Exchanges topics” and am guessing at what you might mean by “match betting”. There’s a “Systems and Strategies” section where you could post an actual betting or trading system or discuss potential approaches. Most of the members on here are genuine punters who, whilst they might appreciate a free bet or a bonus, are basically risking money to try and win money (as opposed to just trying to exploit/abuse those offers to generate an entirely risk free profit).
Have a look around and I’m sure you’ll soon get a feel for what tends to get posted and where.

Xcout reacted to avongirl in Punters Lounge Exclusive £150 added Poker League - July Champion - MUTTLEY
It seems to make a difference if I turn up only a couple of minutes late, I must try harder in future! A turnaround on last week's result with the first 2 out then lasting longest this week. It goes to show, don't give up after week 1.
Kevsul with 2 podium finishes is on top of the league.

I've been told all the payments have been done so let me know if you haven't received as sometimes the odd one gets held up by Paypal.
Merchandise is still to be sorted but should arrive in next week or so. Thanks all.

Xcout reacted to avongirl in FINAL LEAGUE TABLES (2022/23 Season 3 Week 10)
Thanks everyone, @Bedlam I have no idea how Graham used to manage to do it along with everything else he did on here. Maybe he had it automated somehow and just pressed a button, and I sit here checking them manually. Although to be honest, I soon get to know the popular results each week without rechecking and as soon as someone has a loser in a multiple I don't need to check any other parts of their bet. Spreadsheet does all the sums for me, I just have to type the figures in and make it look pretty.
I've collated all the winners details today and sent the email off to request the payments and Merchandise, so hopefully you'll see those coming through soon. I'll keep an eye on it.
Meanwhile I'm back to studying Championship teams again.

Xcout reacted to StevieDay1983 in Week 38 Table & Winners Confirmation
The 2022/23 Punters Lounge Fantasy Football League has now been completed and we can now confirm that @Gazza's United has held on to the top spot in the table to win the £100 first-place cash prize!
I am also delighted to announce that @BARNSLEYCHOP has picked up the second-place cash prize of £50 and @Dannywadge takes home the third-place cash prize of £25! We will be in contact with the three of you to sort out payment of winnings shortly.
Congratulations to all our prize winners for an incredible effort this season! I think we can all agree that it's been a thoroughly enthralling campaign and the fact the title went to the last week showed just how competitive it was.
A quick nod to this week's Manager of the Week which was won by @Mitchell Hart's USA Hammers who accumulated 80 points this week. Harry Kane brought home the vast majority of the points with 32 points earned.
The final name of shame abuse goes to Steve Morse and his Long Tall Leaders side who only picked up 14 points this week. A number of key players not being selected by their clubs for the final round of league games was the killer blow and a disappointing way to end the season.
I would just like to thank you all for your involvement this season. It's been a pleasure to do the updates every week and we look forward to going again next season with even more members involved with more prizes up for grabs!

Xcout reacted to avongirl in League Tables - Week 9
Here are the overall league standings as we go into the final week of the football year for this competition. Despite another abysmal week of winners for us (only 14, worst week yet ) there are a few movements at the top of some Divisions and the overall.
Division 1 finally managed a weekly profit, mostly thanks to @1945harry who pulled his usual 25/1 treble out of the bag finally for bet of the week. @Zidane123 is next best with a 4/1 single. But it's Division 7 yet again where the mega action is and @nawoo with a 3 figure 3/1 winner takes over at the top of the overall despite an 8th winner from @thebestthere, leaving them both over £800 bank.
@Dramfech also bagged an 8th win.
Good luck for the final week, and hopefully everyone finds a winner

With respect, how dare you belittle our valued members who have taken the time to share their words of wisdom!
Buckle up, we’ve got the best part of another fortnight yet! I vote we bring the deadline forward but I suspect @MCLARKE enjoys watching our little Oxford Debating Society having a bit of to and fro.
To be fair, that’s a pretty decent strike rate at those odds!

I'm pretty sure no-one else has gone as far as to propose going "flat only" and banning selections over the jumps!

Xcout reacted to justanotherpunter in NAPS COMPETITION - PROPOSED NEW RULES VOTE
Stats can lie - I have never managed to make a profit betting long odds on shots in my lifetime - however by being slightly choosy and with some luck you can make some profit from longer odds shots. Look at your thread for instance ODDS ON SELECTIONS TRIAL - has this ever made you a decent profit ???? No matter how hard you try.
By being selective to a degree however and with some decent luck odds prices 10/1-to over 100/1 have made me and others some decent profit in the long run.
Try a system by following all punters selections on the naps table over a period of time - say 1 month ( can paper trade if you like - but I find that actual small stakes cash will give a truer reflection)
- then take out all the non profitable punters - remove all the odds on selectors also - keep all the regular winners that show a profit - see how you get on.
Adjust every month - take out non profitable punters - replace with some that perform better - rinse and repeat - works for me most times.
Keep stakes small and have a hardcore of around 20 that you follow daily - see how you get on.
Sorry to ramble on - giving away trade secrets - I may have to develop another system to replace - but getting on in years so not such a big deal for me.😀
Hope the above will give some clues/assistance to other punters on here - however I will stay away from odds on shots for the duration.

I wonder if the brigadier gets early prices the night before and BOG in the other competition ????
-
Xcout reacted to Zilzalian in NAPS COMPETITION - PROPOSED NEW RULES VOTE
Anyone could see how skewed the Naps table is just by my above reasoning Micheal and that would draw equal accusations of not being realistic, I think the most winners comp is far more accurate as to the skills of "our punters" to be honest so maybe that should be the main topic of publication/promotion. Add on to that THE BRIGADIER doing well throughout the season is a very good advert for the site, I am sure many have seen him up there have wondered who/what is PUNTERS LOUNGE and popped along for a look. I am hoping he can find a biggie to get back into top three.
-
Xcout reacted to harry_rag in NAPS COMPETITION - PROPOSED NEW RULES VOTE
The trigger for having the vote is that there will no longer be any bookies offering BOG the night before. The thing that is not realistic is the ability to take a price before BOG is available with any bookies (whether the night before or first thing in the morning) but still have BOG apply to the selection. As a fun competition there is no obligation for the rules to be ultra-realistic but the issue has been raised to see what people think.
With around 56% of the votes so far (if my quick tot up is correct) it looks like the status quo will prevail which is obviously fine. If that creates an edge that doesn't exist in real life (taking a price early but still getting BOG) then it's an edge that's available to everyone should they wish to try and exploit it.
I favoured scrapping BOG from an authenticity perspective (not available to me with most firms) but there's a lot to be said for leaving things as they are if the majority of people prefer to retain BOG rather than ditch it altogether. So unless my #banthebog Twitter campaign gathers unexpected momentum it looks like it will be very much "as you were" but we've all had a bit of fun wagging our jaws and arguing the toss!
-
Xcout reacted to LeMale in NAPS COMPETITION - PROPOSED NEW RULES VOTE
I hope "Bet365 scrapping BOG" is not what you mean and that you're talking about not offering BOG the day before?? If so, this now means no bookie offers it so, why are we in the Naps comp? Well, not that it effects me but, i thought this was still in place for all the members that are unable to post on the day because of work commitments. (or other reasons) Would seem a bit harsh on them imo. Other than that, what "current rules" do you think are unrealistic? It wasn't too long ago that you amended them. (Mclarke- No matter how i write or however many times i alter what i write, it always seems to come across that i'm being arguementative! I hope you know that this is not the case.)
