A look back at yesterday's action first which was very profitable to continue the good run. Alcala had a pretty simple task in the end with Looking Well not really performing anywhere near his best. Point The Way ran a lot better when pulling up behind the winner last time, but it's pretty weak form really. Captain Buck's was very much on a going day as he always looked the winner. I think this was the better of the two performances at Musselburgh. It was a shame to see Absainte come down because she was going to finish 2nd and it would have meant that every bet would have been a winner.5 points -

Lukas Klein to beat Andrej Martin at 1.83 with Pinnacle I liked Klein in the qualifying and I actually had no idea that he holds a 3-0 record against Martin in the H2H department. That's why I like him at this price here. He's aggressive and he's used to the courts by now after beating 3 solid opponents in Collarini, Seyboth Wild and Escobedo.5 points -

Being a great follower of stats (for well over 40 years) the interruption in the past year due to Covid has a lot to do with my bad run IMO. With stats I look at every horse in races with 8 or more runners and gradually weed the field and see what is left. It is not everyone's ideal way of selection but I find it 'fun' and it keeps this 75yo brain ticking over. One Forty Seven I noticed has had good runs every second race this season and the Unseated run he was in a good position at the time and, if I remember correctly, was unseated by a faller. There were other reasons that he 'qualified' in4 points

Bolsova vs Juvan +19.5 Games at 1.74 with Pinnacle I'm not sure if Juvan deserves that big favoritism. Bolsova took a set against Bouzkova after beating easily Raina in 2 sets in the Yarra Valley. After that, she lost easily against Brady in the 1st round of the AO. 4 of 5 Juvan's last matches have been 3 set matches (vs. Yafan Wang, Swiatek, Sherif and Gauff). I do not count her match against Konta cause Konta retired after winning the 1st set. The only match from the last 5 that she has won in 2 sets has been against Cabrera (6-4, 6-3). In the AO, both players lost against Brady with ex4 points -
There's three matches I like today - all WTA. In Dubai, I'm backing Cirstea to beat Tsurenko - both players aren't in great form but Cirstea has the recent scalp of Kvitova so that swings it for me at odds against. Also in Dubai I can't have Ferro as such a big underdog against Mertens. She strung a few wins together last week and Mertens hasn't been seen since the Australian Open. I like Mertens as she's quite consistent and so she should be winning this, but for a small stake I'll take a chance on Ferro. Lastly in Guadalajara, I think Volynets has a chance against McNally. Mostly this is abo4 points

We've got way too many tournaments on the cards this week. Roberto Bautista-Agut to beat Reilly Opelka at 1.61 with Pinnacle Still a difference in quality and I remember RBA liking the courts in the Middle East most of the time. He looked really good two weeks ago and has had enough time off to be ready for this. Unless Opelka fires big time on serve, he'll be in trouble all around. Slight value on RBA I feel.4 points -
Looks like you can do well on the jumps. First time I have looked at AW this season and the results have been fantastic, 77% return. I have made a loss with my traditional betting on the jumps but this has been offset by the profits on AW. I'm not sure if this is beginners luck or whether it is genuinely easier to make money on the AW.4 points

Not the best weekends racing but still some competitive action. The ground at Newbury despite a 7mm shower on Wednesday evening is drying and is likely to be good with some dead patches whilst at Doncaster it’s good also with a dry forecast. Kelso is slightly worse at good to soft but also drying. Here’s a quick look at the Terrestrial TV races. Newbury 115 A 3m 2f veterans handicap chase. Fiona Ferro (-2.5 Games) to beat Clara Burel at 1.73 with William Hill I like Burel and it's obvious that she's improving as she has achieved here 2 important wins (vs. Cornet and Sasnovich) but Ferro has proved during the last year that she plays on another level. Burel has played her last match against Sasnovich with tapes on her arm. She won the third set to nil but I imagine she wore them for a reason. She played an ITF tournament in Poitiers the last week. She reached the Final but she lost it against Snigur in a 3 set match. She played three 3 set matches there and two more here so4 points

Before I get to the two hunter chases at Leicester today I will have a quick look back at Fontwell on Sunday. It was a very good performance from The Galloping Bear who was well backed late on. I didn't think he would be up to beating Sametegal, but in the end I think he just stayed better than the favourite. The winner wasn't always foot perfect, but he looks a really strong stayer and it would be interesting to see where the go with him. The John Corbet Cup at Stratford could be an option for him. Sametegal has qualified for Cheltenham, but it seems like he will be going to Aintree now which4 points -

Francis Tiafoe vs Nicholas Jarry well, we all know that Tiafoe is not a natural claycourter compared to Jarry who loves to play on the surface. Tiafoe has already had two matches on clay in Buenos Aires where I would say he played okay against Munar who he lost to. Jarry on the other hand has had 4 competitive matches on clay beating Munar in Cordoba in the process. I really believe that Jarry has had just enough matches to set him up well for his home tournament in Santiago. One thing most tournament organizers always do, is to try to schedule their matches in such a way that their best3 points -

Frances Tiafoe to beat Jaume Munar at 1.81 with Unibet I saw both Tiafoe against Bagnis and Munar against Diaz Acosta and I liked Tiafoe way bit more. Munar is the more natural clay courter, but he seemed to lack the punch to me in his match and Tiafoe looks to be riding the wave after giving Djokovic a good match. The main reason for this bet is what I saw, however.3 points -

Never for one second did I think BOG would be needed to get a bigger price on Fumet D'oudairies, indeed I thought he would go off odds on. So for him to return 5/2 was staggering. It was a really impressive performance and although the bare form isn't strong, the time was good and you could see him as a possible Cheltenham contender next season as there should be more to come. I'm Wiser Now was 2nd again and I will keep saying that he will always find something to beat him no matter what the opposition. There were two big surprises in the race. Your last sentence is spot on. He did not make a mistake...Thats who he is. I see people saying well he can learn from his mistake etc etc. I repeat, he did not make a mistake. Making a mistake is accidentally leaving the stable door open, not sitting on a dead horse, smiling whilst on the phone doing one of these stupid 2 finger salutes. That tells me what he actually thinks of horses. He does not mistreat them, they have all the most modern facilities and techniques. But that is NOT because he loves horses. I love this debate on distance/length/weight debate (rhymes at least) so hope you don't mind my two penneth worth. "Confounding variables" far too many of them in this debate, think of all your picks and then think of the successfulness of your picks, usually you find a common denominator. but it is more important to try to find out why your pick got beat because you probably made a mistake and like they say if you keep doing the same thing over and over you get the same result. I do speed figures for 2 yo. if a horse got beat 1 length it gets minus 6 points, and -1 point per 1/4 length ther3 points -

Calls for him to be banned permanently from the sport are well OTT . There’s much worse actually going on in horse racing. How many horses are sent to slaughter when they get retired. How many horses that don’t make the grade as a younger horse are sent to slaughter. He will pay a big price and rightly so, but I hope he learns a big lesson from this. Unfortunately the damage to the sport will take some repairing . It’s not that long ago one or the top jockeys was punching one of the horses to get him to line up . Be interesting to see where Gordon Elliot is in 3-5 years time. He’s still very3 points -
