  1. Fair to say the 1st Round didn't go anywhere near as well as the 4th Qualifying Round and I was caught out a little by how many upsets there were. Hard to put an exact reason behind that, but I do think no crowds is a factor. The Non-League sides are always going to be up for it, but it was clear that the same couldn't be said of the Football League sides in the 1st Round. I have picked out 6 of the Non-League sides that I think can cause an upset over the weekend as well as putting up a 4 fold. If they all win then I might retire! Tips for now and the previews will follow. Don't forget Bet365

  2. Saturday was reasonable, but could have easily been a full house given Chorley hit the front late on and Sutton were 2 up and comfortable. Still a profit is a profit and we move on to Tuesday night where I have 4 bets. Barnet v Hartlepool Given how bad Barnet have been in the league on the whole I am still amazed they managed to knock out Burton in the FA Cup Since that they have lost 3-1 to Bromley and 2-0 to Kings Lynn at home and then on Saturday they lost 4-1 at Woking who only had 10 men for an hour of the game. Hartlepool were well beaten by a superb Torquay performance last mo

  10. One of National Hunt’s best Saturday’s is nearly upon us with the Newbury Ladbroke Trophy meeting at Newbury where with no rain forecast the ground is likely to ride unseasonably good for the time of year. We start the card with the 12.10 and a decent Mares listed hurdle where the most likely winner is Mrs Hyde who took the scalp of Verdana Blue at Wetherby and certainly won’t mind conditions. I’m not entirely convinced Verdana Blue is as good as she once was and with Mrs Hyde carrying a penalty I’ll be looking for some each way value elsewhere. Down at the bottom of the card is the Iris

Has looked a little bit one paced so a switch to hurdling could be the making of him. His dam was decent, there's stamina in the pedigree to suggest he won't mind two miles over jumps and looks a big price now with 3 places on offer. 12.05 Doncaster - 1pt win Out for Justice @ 7/1 Down the weights and partnered with an experienced rider in this conditional jockeys' event, I like Out for Justice who has shaped like ne

  12. This Saturday sees the annual running of the Ladbroke Trophy handicap Chase, known to many as the Henessey Gold Cup and won in the past by such legendry names as Arkle, Burrough Hill Lad and Denman to name but three. It’ll be run at Newbury over 3m 2f and the most important factor is that the ground is currently good to soft at the Berkshire track. The weather forecast for the week (though they can be as poor as some tipsters I know!) is bar a wet Wednesday predominantly dry which isn’t going to help the true mudlark if that forecast is right. Heading the weights for the field of 19 is B

  16. It may not be the best day's racing but we get to see the chase debut of the Supreme novice Hurdle winner SHISKIN (1.25 Kempton). Apparently his schooling has been sensational down at Nicky Henderson's base at Seven Barrows and he's starting out in the very same race that Altior started his chasing career in a few years back. Hes unbackable at around 1/6 but I cant wait to see him jump a fence. Henderson can also take the first at Kempton with his Ascot winner CAPTAIN MORGS (12.50). Henderson always runs a good novice in this race and he has Kim Bailey's Ajero to beat. One t

He bumped into an a very unexposed Wild Max at Huntingdon last time and the pair pulled some half a dozen lengths clear of the third placed Rowland Ward. Tom Bellamy takes over in the saddle from Brian Hughes (who rides at Newcastle instead) and has ridden a few winners around here in the past. Constancio is the only course and distance winner in the line-up and he can make the most of that experience. 2-53 DONCASTER BYRON FLYER Byron Flyer won t

  41. Paisley ran well today which is great to see. Not quite grade A Paisley Park but close enough to show us he still has it. Thyme Hill is going to be a very tough horse to beat in the stayers hurdle though. Both will improve from that race. The winner was getting 3Ibs from Paisley Park and also that was a few pounds below what Paisley Park is capable of. Not ruling anyone else out of the stayers hurdle but the first two today will take some beating providing they get there fit and well. Big race in Ireland this weekend which will tell us more regarding fancies for this race.

  42. An interesting day's racing for a Wednesday I feel. The Hereford novice hurdles feature some possible future pretenders. The 12.05 and BUMPY JOHNSON is a bumper winner making his hurdles debut for David Pipe that he has talked about highly in recent stable files. Hes been well supported all ready and has a Gordon Elliot runner Getabay and Alan King's Fraternal to beat. They don't set that high a standard so he can be winning. 43. Bayern v RB Salzburg: I'm going to stick to taking the Bulls by the horns, or the corners to be more precise. They consistently cover the spread in corner matches in European competitions. Main bets on the spreads: buy cross corners at 23 and Salzburg corners squared at 16, both with SPIN. (Cross corners being home corners taken multiplied by away corners taken and corners squared being... well you do the maths, literally!) Fixed odds lines worth adding into the mix are >3.5 away corners at 6/4 Sky Bet and >4.5 at 3/1 with them or PP. Also 5+ corners each team at 9/2 Sky Bet.

  44. Yeah Rowe has been poached by Chesterfield. Fully understand why he has gone and as long as he doesn't nick players (I don't think he will) then I am not that bothered by it. I'm confident we will get a good manager in to replace him and we obviously still have a great team. As for tonight McClure has been confirmed as missing and we have another couple of players injured as well. We will do well to get a point in my view and no surprise Gateshead are now favourites.

Here is the lineup for Group A : W.Borland C.Wilkinson K.Huybrechts J.Henderson H.Leitinger S.Beaton S.Brown I've backed Wilkinson a couple of times now over the course of this year and most of the time he gives me a run for my money.
