Re: The Jockey Thread Best ride of the day ''for me'' was from Louis Steward in 4:10 at Lingfield, up against a very hot Fav with Jim Crowley riding, after the bend Louis kicked for home with a catch me if you can attitude, fantastic stuff. Some Bigger names in the game should take note. http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/results/05-02-2014/lingfield-park/result/602969/compare-bookmakers-at-bookmakers-co-uk-maiden-stakes

Re: The Jockey Thread

can i ask you guys to look at the 1650 at fontwell on sunday, the game is a foot, ridden by joseph akehurst, up in trip, it should have suited, and he was fiinishing really well, any thoughts????
Thought the horse ran in snatches jockey did well to keep the horse interested and in touch with the lead group could have easily lost touch did well to get third and running on at the end imho.

Re: The Jockey Thread A great ride and a poor ride in the same race today. 2pm Towcester. I was on Millers Reef and backed this when he won at Wetherby. That day Richie McGrath had taken over from Wilson Renwick and he won by 4 1/2 lengths. He needed to be held up, travelled really smoothly and went well on soft ground. Today Wilson Renwick was back on board. The horse travelled like a dream again and was really late off the bridle, looking like a possible winner but he let Nico De Boinville get too much of a lead and a 3m slog on very heavy ground meant he was always going to struggle to reel him in. He left it way too late to make his move and it got mentioned in commentary too that he was sat with a double handful but was having to make a move sooner rather than later. Nico stole a lead and kicked and was about 10 lengths in front with Millers Reef unable to close and he ran on for 2nd place. He might not have been good enough anyway but to let a rival have such a lead in very soft tiring ground is just stupid. I've seen Renwick make loads of mistakes and the owners reactions previously on a different horse for John Wade told a story. Enterprising ride from Nico but shouldn't have been allowed that lead so close to home. Watch the race and see what you think.

Re: The Jockey Thread Thought this would have been covered somewhere, but what's the consensus on Ruby 'A horse is replaceable' Walsh's comments regarding Our Conor? I think I see the point he's trying to make as he's taking the angle of 'Thank God it wasn't the jockey', but has worded it beyond horrendously. PETA will be stepping up their response level from 'Cantankerous' to 'Mega Herbivore' now.

Re: The Jockey Thread

Shocker from Brian Hughes on Attaglance in the last at Cheltenham trying to go up the in side cost him the race and cost me my doe :@
I have to eat a bit of humble pie after slagging Brian Hughes off yesterday, today he give Hawk High a very good ride today kept the horse covered up pulled the horse out wide going over the last and kicked on and held on to win. Very nice ride:)

Re: The Jockey Thread Could have kicked Jamie Spencer to the moon last Sunday at the Curragh for his poorly judged ride on Sructahan - BUT credit where credit is due: He made the difference on Certerach in the Dubai Gold Cup. Cavallryman was the better horse and would have won with a clear run, but didn't get the ride to do so from his jockey. Stuck in traffic, no chance. In contract Spencer had the horse nicely setteled in rear, improved position throughout and was in the right position entering the home straight, poised on the outside, to have every chance. Well done!

Re: The Jockey Thread Can imagine, must been tough if you backed him. One would say that's racing, but in this case it was just not a good ride by De Sousa - who should have known better as he rides often enough at Meydan. If you there two off the fence or so turning for home in the middle of bunch of horses, it's extremely hard to get a clear run there, you really need to have it falling right then. Down to luck, and he wasn't lucky. Spencer didn't gamble. He did what as right to do. On the other hand, they could avoid this problem in Meydan, if they would install a false rail, as they did in Dundalk recently for example, of what is common in South African racing, where it works really well.

Re: The Jockey Thread At the risk of going off topic... Another hard luck story from the race has to go down as Now We Can, seems to have been missed by many but looked to have got a great tow into the race against the rail and was travelling really smoothly turning in, never got any luck and finished nearer last than first. Would definitely have been involved if getting a gap at the right time. Could be an interesting one in one of the cup races this year if connections decide to bring him over, although I would imagine the Melbourne Cup would be the likely target in the long term.
