Due to the weather we know little about some of the contenders... Mille Chief - 1 completed start Notus De La Tour - 1 UK start Royal Mix - 1 UK start According - yet to make debut Secant Star - no completed starts and they are five of the first seven in the betting! Many win on debuts but amount to little thereafter, so it's so hard to predict how many of these will go. My personal bets (at the moment) are Mille Chief 14/1 Pistolet Noir 14/1 Royal Mix 33/1 (not previously posted as price smashed) Will make up my mind properly nearer the time. :ok

Thanks mate. Not really if I'm honest, I've never really looked at these races before. However this season I started to watch a few juvenile hurdles closely and thought I may as well try something new. If the ratings are accurate I think it can be an easier way of spotting value and like you say there have been quite a few big price horses to run well. Bit sick with this race. The 10lb clear top-rated wins at 7/2 and clearly the best value was No Sting at 50/1. Not only did he not have much to find on the 3rd/4th rated he also had a +. He was 3rd at 50/1. Was just worried about his lay-off and the attitude of the winner. Ah well, at least the ratings are working well.

Having backed him once or twice on the flat I think he is a little quirky. The 2nd on debut (blinkers) was fine, I thought there were signs of it on his 2nd start (well beaten, no headgear), I thought he backed off a bit when asked. And despite winning the other day he again showed signs. The x means the rating needs to be treated with caution, now with this case the x was as much to do with a change of headgear. I rated him 121 FTO with headgear, then he failed to run to that rating without headgear on his 2nd start. I didn't want to lower his rating as there was a headgear change, I thought that could've been a reason for the poor run. So when rating yesterday's race I decided on a 121x. Believing he is capable of 121 but it's questionable he'll be able to run to that, given the headgear was missing again. Now I made the performance 121 exactly the other day. Improvement obviously allowed him to still run to that mark. I still think he would be better with the blinds on so he will now be rated 121+, but the + will only come into play if the headgear is applied. If that makes sense. :ok

Re: BTP's Juvenile Hurdle Ratings I thought Barwell Bridge was flattered FTO and that was probably true as he failed to improve on the bare form on his 2nd start. A big chance here as those rated around him do have question marks however at the price he definitely isn't for me. Gilded Age's form did not work out as well as expected and he really would have to make his + count and improve to figure. It's a possibility but at 10/1 I'm not interested. Garter Knight is probably a little under rated by at least a few pounds on my list. Even so I think there is better value. Tropical Batchelor is hard to assess as he run out when a beaten 4th in a decent race in July, not entitled to be 100/1 on flat form. Master Fong flopped badly on his second start but better ground here could see a return to his best. Ditto Luthien. Descaro and Regal Lyric are closely match on their form LTO. But the former should confirm placings. Winner was FTO and the top two rated were 2nd and 3rd. The w/o priced on Master Fong ended up 18/1. Shame the newcomber was ready. 1.2pts staked, 0.71pts returned. Bit of a f*ck up really, not sure why Descaro etc carried the same money as the clear top-rated :\. Ah well, least the ratings are working (again ;)). Pig sick. Actually had a small bet on him w/o myself, didn't have penny on Betfair's 400. So nearly made him the bet. My stake was so small I only broke level. With that in mind sorry to anyone backing the above, but hopefully anyone who did is in front with to the thread anyway. :puke You get f*ck all for coulda's and woulda's in this game though and of course hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? I only talk about this sort of thing after the event (as I did yesterday) as I this thread is a learning curve for me. For instance it seems better to go with a later type with a low rating than one of the early season types with higher ratings - as I've found out with Transporter and Blazing Buck. It's profitable but I believe I'm still making errors like I did yesterday and today, hopefully this season will iron those creases out.

Charlie Mann does well at Plumpton (11/30) and a line through Blue Nymph (on the flat) suggests he'd be among the top-rated here if transfering the form to hurdles. At the prices though I'd much rather be with those who have jumped a hurdle in public. Alhaque has obvious chances and for me is the most likely winner, however he is plenty short enough considering the dangers. Hard to know whether or not Brad's Luck's rating is justified considering how strung out they were in his race, however Woodlark Island's run behind Mille Chielf suggests the rating is no more than 7lb wrong. Re: BTP's Juvenile Hurdle Ratings This thread is for juvenile-only races primarily, however at this time of year many juveniles run in all-age races. The following are running in all-age handicaps today. Salontyre OR 94 (my rating 90) Woodlark Island OR 92 (my rating 85) With the lesser rated types you can expect improvement when they go handicapping, therefore both could be competitive today. Obviously you have to take into account they are racing against non-juveniles. Not suggesting a bet, perhaps this sort of thing will work better in juvenile handicaps - although there aren't many.
