Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! what chance Oscar Time? layed him at 17 to cash a free bet then price reduced to 15 before I got him backed. went further in to 12ish and now out to 17 again:D think he needs the dark clouds to have any chance.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! He ticks a lot of boxes mate and was bought by the Waley-Cohen's specifically for the race. His prep has been spot on but I think your right that he will prefer some juice in the ground :ok

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! Probably not very reliable this far in advance but here's the weather forecast for Aintree in the days leading up to the festival. Lots of rain. I remember a similar forecast for last year though and the ground ended up pretty fast so maybe better to take more notice closer to the time. http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/forecasttab/L9%205AS/10

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! Been away for a few days and during that time, ive lost a couple of my bets :( Ballytrim is lame and will not run. One Cool Cookie sadly died on the gallops :( The final entry stage is tomorrow and there are concerns for me around Arbor Supreme, who still needs 3 more to come out and West End Rocker who has drifted badly on betfair. Whatever way you look at itm it doesnt look good for Arbor Supreme. Even if he does sneak in, the fact that neither McManus or Mullins are making an effort to get him into the race suggests to me that he isnt particularly fancied. Mullins could have pulled out non-stayer Dooneys Gate for example but he is a confirmed runner. McManus has this week bought Bluesea Cracker. Whilst it is good news for Bluesea Cracker's chances, to be held in high regard, im not sure what it says about the chances of McManus's other entries. Food for thought there.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! 9 withdrawals at the 6 day stage: Synchronised, Midnight Chase, Scotsirish, Notre Pere, Ballytrim, Nezders Return, One Cool Cookie, Frankie Figg, Dev. Number 40 is Our Monty, which means that Arbor Supreme gets in. Mullins withdrew Scotsirish, preferring the Topham for him, and allowed Arbor to run. Lots to update, i'll get on the case this afternoon.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! The antepost market closes at 10 a.m. on 7 April (Thursday), so I need to get my book up straight before then. Up until recently the thread has had a focus on “backing to lay” but with the close of the market approaching, its time to think about who I want my big winners to be, who I am overexposed to and who I want to increase my exposure to.

Therefore, I have been busy freeing up some funds to bet elsewhere and I’ll give a quick summary below:

Lays

Oscar Time: £5 @ 17.5

The Midnight Club: £2 @ 11.0

Character Building: £3 @ 34.0

Backstage: £3 @ 15.25

Chief Dan George: £4 @ 46.0

Silver By Nature: £3 @ 17.5

Thetotherone: £1.02 @ 60.0

Not much to say here really other than the soft ground is unlikely to come for Silver By Nature so happy to lay off some there. The Tother One was supposed to shorten in price after I backed him, but it hasn’t happened. I managed to get just over £1 back :nana but I’ll leave it at that I think. If he gets round he would have a chance on his Hennessy form (staying on 4th) but his jumping is suspect. The others were big winners and I’ve just taken some funds out to try and manipulate things in favour of those I fancy most.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! Backs

Bluesea Cracker: £2 @ 48.0

Arbor Supreme: £3 @ 27.0

Northern Alliance: £2 @ 55.0

That’s Rhythm: £2 @ 430.0

What a Friend: £10 @ 14.0

Niche Market: £10.02 @ 22.0

Bluesea Cracker was backed just as the news about McManus’s purchase broke. I suspected that would see her price contract and indeed it has – she is trading at about 28.0 now. Leaving MacManus to one side for a second, she is last years Irish Grand National winner which merits respect and catches the eye on the form she showed behind Midnight Chase at Cheltenham – 4th behind Midnight Chase, Any Currency and Junior. The 1st and 3rd, we now know were very well handicapped animals and I suspect time will tell us the same about the runner up. She gets in off 140 here, off 10 stone 4lbs. I would be more confident but all her form is on rain softened ground and connections have openly stated they would like some juice in the ground for Saturday. That isn’t looking very likely at the moment. I may lay off my £2 but will wait a couple of days first.

Arbor Supreme – One who I have backed then layed, backed then layed, backed then layed and son on…. :lol My hunch is that he doesn’t have the class to win this but I cant let him go unbacked on the basis of his form in the Bobbyjo, a 1 length runner up to current favourite The Midnight Chase and 4 lengths in front of Oscar Time. That was off level weights and he reopposes here 6lb’s better off with Oscar Time and 10lbs better off with The Midnight Club. Was going well enough last year when unseating.

Northern Alliance – Looked at this one when he was triple figures so a bit annoyed that I’m taking half that price now but I think he is worth a small interest. His build up to this reminds me a lot of Monty’s Pass, who won a few years back.

That’s Rhythm – Obviously very speculative but worth £2 at 430.0. He was travelling well in the Scottish National a couple of years ago when taking a fall, perhaps too early to say how he would have done but he was cantering at the time and almost certainly would have been involved in the placings at the least. Goes well fresh, likes fast ground. Still has an entry for the Scottish version next week but I’m hoping he retains this.

What a Friend – Everything seems to be coming right for this one. We handicapped, in form, conditions and weather forecasts are coming right with decent ground now extremely likely, he is going to start favourite in my view. Has top class form in the book including a 3 length runner up to Denman in the Hennessy, with Niche Market 3 lengths behind in 3rd (I’ll come to him in a minute!), is a winner of the Lexus Chase in Ireland and of course was a staying on 4th behind Long Run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Niche Market - Finally decided to up the stakes on this one. The aforementioned staying on 3rd behind Denman and What a Friend, in last year’s Hennessy, off a 1lb lower mark than he carries here is noteworthy. He returned this year to finish 5th behind Diamond Harry (staying on again) off a mark 7lbs higher than he carries here. Last year, connections seemed uncertain which route they were going to take with him and as a result he came to Aintree after a few tough races. However, this seasons campaign has been solely based around the Grand National. He was going well enough last year, before being struck into and pulled up. I know the owner is bullish and he has the credentials to run well, especially now the ground is turning in his favour – he won the 2009 Irish national on good ground.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! Yeah i've been targeting horses i think will shorten in price and then laying them off, once/if they do. The end result is a few free bets. Theres a few decent Irish horses so i've heard of worse staking plans! Good luck :ok

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! Dont Push It now 8/1 favourite with Boyles :eek He must run a big race; i dont think top weight would have stopped him last year so if he can reproduce that performace he should be in the mix. No chance of soft ground, which is a concern for Silver By Nature and Bluesea Cracker.

Re: The "All Green" Grand National 2010 - NOW INCLUDING 2011!! Cheers Russ. I note my bogey horse Quinz is pricewises selection today and is now 14/1. He is well in but I'll be surprised if he wins. Official going: good, good to soft in places.
