Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08

Recommended Posts

San 3.20 Rob Roy 0.5 pts e.w 16/1 bog Poor race by eclipse standards and could be ripe for a 'shock.' Rob roy has always had the talent and the reputation and I just wonder is this where he delivers. He has run well over the years at time, couple of group wins and a stormer in the champion stakes behind pride but in front of a horse of the class of hurricane run, he ran well in the breeders cup too when storming far too late over a mile from his american jock. After that a spell in the states didnt work but back in stoutes hands he warrents respect. FTO this season encourages over shorter and Im prepared to forgive his run in a messy lockinge where he uncomfortably made it. I think this trip suits, certainly on his 2006 champion stakes run it does and may well have been overlooked for the trainer and jockey combo who infamously won this last year.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 Sandown 3.55: MELODRAMATIC WIN This daughter of Sadler's Wells looks to have an obvious opportunity to win here. She ran a decent race LTO at Newbury in listed company, but everything about the run showed she desperately needed a return to a mile, and Roger Charlton has obliged. In form Richard Hughes takes the ride.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 SANDOWN~FLIPANDO 0.5 E/W Is well capable of a big show here and is interesting that Jamie Spencer is booked to ride as he has won on him has got ground to suit and has been backed into 12's from 14's already. Big chance imo.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 3.20 Sandown: Phoenix Tower Henry Cecil's winner yesterday, Many Volumes, highlights yard's current form therefore every chance that Phoenix Tower could continue his good run today. Only defeats have came at G1 level in last 2 starts when 2nd behind Creachadoir in the Lockinge and Duke of Marmalade in the Prince of Wales. Stayed on well on both occasions so the stiff Sandown finish could prove ideal. Looks to be the one to be on today. WIN

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 3:45 Leicester: Dickie Le Davoir EW After a few duds, I am hoping this one will be a turnaround. Coming into this race with a good form, this horse has won its only race at the ground. Furthermore, it is more than well suited to this class, and can do very well over the distance, also supported by the fact that Dickie runs best on Good to Firm ground. This will be a close fought race, but I think Dickie can do just enough to edge ahead of the pack. Also interesting to note is that there are 9 horses in this race, even if 1 of them is NR, there will still be 3 places, but if more than 1 horses is NR, I would recommend either going onto betfair or avoiding this race. But as it stands, the best bet stands as EW on Dickie at 3.45 today. Good luck!

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 6.20 Nottingham. Jarvo. Lay. Racing Post Sp 4/1. Had a good season so far and won more than his fair share, but with that comes added weight and with bombing out badly last time it appears that a busy sort of season mixed with rising weights is catching up with him. Several others appear better weighted on recent exploits and so at an SP of 4/1 he'd be much more a lay than a play, irrespective of the end result. If he goes and wins, then hats off to him.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 He's A Humbug (3.30 Bev) EW Was highly tried early on in his career and as a result has paid the penalty of being too high in the weights to win handicaps for most of his racing life yet not good enough to win at pattern level. However has gradually slipped down the handicap and signalled a return to form when running a good race at York three runs back over 5f. After a disappointing run at 6f he returned to 5f at Carlise LTO and was just pipped 'on the nod' by Angus News, a horse that followed up just two days later to frank the form. His trainer has blamed poor showings on soft ground in the past and it's possible that the rain softenend ground could have cost him the race. The horses trainer, Kevin Ryan has a healthy 22% strike-rate at Beverley (29% for 4yo+) and the stable seems in form. No winners from two runners yesterday but four winners from four runners the previous day !

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 330 Bev: Mambo Spirit EW Playing safe with EW as with these sprints at Bev trouble in running is so common but cant ignore the chances of Mambo Spirit from stall 9. If you look at his recent form he has had the worst of the draw in his last three runs yet ran very well, this could be his turn, dropped to a nice mark with the main rivals running off higher marks after having won recently. A tricky day but at around 4/1 this looks fair value and if it gets done the loss is only minimal.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 3.00 Haydock EZIMA 10pts win @ 5/1 Paddy Power Stepped up in style last time out to win a listed race over 14f, won 2 other listed races last season over 10f & 12f. Should do well in Group company as only try in G3 resulted in a close up 5th behind Regime in May finishing in front of mount nelson (in the eclipse today) that day.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 2.10 Sandown - 0.5pt EW Prime Defender E/W In fields of 12 or less the form reads 3-3-2-1-1-2-1-1. Only raced twice over 5f, 1st & 5th. Back to a winning mark of 106. I hope it can get into a place at least. Good luck today all

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 3.20 Sandown Phoenix Tower 1pt win There's no way Mount Nelson should be favourite in this race it's as a result of Obrien's form in Group 1's and his so called eye catching run in the Queen Anne at Ascot. Phoenix Tower's second to Duke of Marmalade is the best form and he even took a little bump during that race so could have finished slightly closer.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 3.35 - Haydock - Record Breaker - 0.5 EW Just had a quick look at the Old Newton Cup and noticed the list of 'last 10 winners'...........all of them were 4 or 5 year olds carrying 9-3 or less........which only leaves a short list of 4 if that trend continues. Two of them would be fairly well fancied, Pippa Greene and Camps Bay. The one at the bottom looks to be a no hoper, Which leaves M Johnston's Record Breaker. I quite like the look of that one, despite the fact that M Johnston is useless and my last pick of one of his finished last..........:wall I like the fact that Record Breaker gets a but further than todays trip which could bode well if it turns into a test of stamina with a big field and softish ground. He can also 'front run' and there's some tight bends at Haydock which might just play into the hands of a front runner

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 H4.45 Irving Place 0.5pt E/W Anna Pavlova has just won impressively for the Fahey/Hanagan combo and this one could have been prepared quietly for this to sneak in on bottom weight. Looks well overpriced if the soft conditions bring about the improvement required. Currently a standout 25/1 with Ledbrokes.

Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sat 5/7/08 3.30 Beverley I've backed Dig Deep on his previous two starts believing he is about to strike due to being well handicapped. He runs off a mark of 83, he always goes close when dropped to this sort of mark. He ran well LTO to finish 6th at Newcastle when ALL the pace was on the other side. He almost raced alone far side for the 2nd half of the race. Both his turf sprint wins have come over a stiff 5f and Beverley should suit 100%. Dig Deep EW

Sorry. Tailed off. Something clearly amiss. Long way behind 2nd last horse.
