Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!! I think it's 50-50 if I'll be playing the main event next year. Came sickeningly close to qualifying this year, finishing 2nd out of 150 on UltimateBet, with only 1st place getting the seat (I picked up $3k for my troubles though), and also finished 12th on Bodog with top 8 getting a seat :sad Don't think I played poker for 2 weeks after that :cry I reckon I'm 80% to go over to vegas whether I qualify for the ME or not, and probably play a few sat's over there for ME, and buy-into the $1500 event and maybe a couple of $2500 events. Good luck to all PL'ers trying to qualify :hope

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!! Hi All, Well after a few wins I reckon i should have the $1500 needed for Vegas in the next week or so. But, cos i know i`ll start dipping in to it, i was thinking how could i withdraw the money and not spend it (or let the wife get her mits on it)! Paul, once i have reached it would it be possible to have a fund that PL would look after, a mini account so to speak. Don`t know i this is possible but that way i would not be able to touch it.

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!! Has anyone seen this: In yesterday's ESPN Radio broadcast "The Poker Edge" with Phil Gordon and Andrew Feldman, Gordon revealed that Harrah's has informed the online sites that they will not be accepting third-party registrations for this year's World Series of Poker. Gordon puts it in layman's terms: "If you go to one of the online sites and win a seat to the WSOP, they will not allow the site to buy you in. You're gonna have to buy yourself in." If I won $12,000 in place of a WSOP seat would I spend it on a WSOP seat? Difficult to decide!

Just read a report on this with 2 conflicting views - one by someone linked to Full Tilt who predicts this will eliminate 75% of the field (so looking at about 2200), the other by someone at Poker.com who says it changes nothing - they'll just get the qualifiers to complete the application form, then they'll wire the entry fee across directly!! I can't see what the objective of Harrahs could possible be for doing this......

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!! The online-satellite pipeline to the Main Event at the WSOP found itself clogged in a major way this past week, as word leaked out from Harrah's Entertainment, owners of the World Series of Poker, that they will no longer accept third-party registrations on behalf of player who won their seats through satellites on online sites. A large majority of the 8,773 players who participated in the 2006 Main Event qualified in this manner, and in combination with the passing of the UIGEA and several sites' withdrawal from the U.S. market, all but ensures that the WSOP will have significantly smaller participation numbers in 2007. One of the first public mentions of the change was by Phil Gordon, who talked about the communication on his "The Poker Edge" program, co-hosted with Andrew Feldman on ESPN Radio. Gordon, one of the celebrity endorsers for Full Tilt Poker, suggested that the change will eliminate perhaps 75% of the Main Event entrants, predicting that 2,200 players might be a reasonable expectation for 2007. That said, the WSOP change Gordon referred to seems largely unconnected to a mailing from Full Tilt this week telling winners of recent online qualifiers that if the event the player qualified for was based in the U.S., the player would need to accept a cash-equivalent deposit into his or her account, or attend a non-U.S. event instead, with events in Niagara Falls (Canada) and Dublin (Ireland) among those mentioned. The Full Tilt mailing inferred that the larger gaming changes caused by the pending passage of the UIGEA were responsible for the move. The new Harrah's policy remains unofficial as of this writing, and the initial word went out to only the largest sites, rather than all those that had sent online qualifiers to the WSOP in 2006. However, Pokernews.com can confirm that the new rules will become official in the near future. Gary Thompson, Director of the World Series of Poker, told us via e-mail "While we're still reviewing registration requirements, it's likely we will accept third-party registrations from entities such as charitable and civic organizations and offline tribal and commercial casinos in the U.S. and abroad with whom we have licensing agreements to conduct WSOP satellites, as well as entities for which we have sponsorship agreements that run contests for their customers. We most likely will not be accepting third-party registrations from other entities." Reaction from online sites was mixed. The site sending the most players to the WSOP for the last several years, Poker Stars, did not have a reply in time for inclusion in this report. Bodog Founder and CEO Calvin Ayre acknowledged the change but chose to accentuate the positive, offering this: "No matter what, players will continue to hone their poker skills at online sites such as Bodog.com. To this end, we will continue to develop world champion poker players, such as Team Bodog s 2006 WSOP winner Jamie Gold, who will continue to dominate land-based poker tournaments." Word began to trickle down to the smaller sites as well, such as Australia-based Poker.com, which sent 18 of its own players to the 2006 Main Event, then picked up the sponsorship tab for three more Main Event qualifiers from an unconnected site, Check n Raise Poker, when that site ran into cash-flow difficulties and defaulted on its promise to send those qualifiers to the WSOP. Poker.com's Head of Affiliate Marketing, Paul Cherry, opined that there still might be workarounds for sending players to the WSOP. "I can't see it being a real problem," said Cherry, "it just means the player will have to fill out the pre-registration forms and submit them him/herself. Surely we can still do the wire for them. If not, we just give the money to the player and they can pay." Still, even the optimistic Cherry conceded that a new era for the WSOP is at hand. "There is one thing for certain; the 2006 World Series of Poker was the biggest poker tournament you will see for a long time."

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!! Well I think if Harrah's go through with this it is a good thing and should go towards avoiding last years scenario with Check n Raise and GP. Lets face it its only going to be a matter of time before the WSoP is fully protected and sites have to pay to use the name. If safeguards are put in place to protect the image as well then it should work out in the players favour.

Not sure banning all online qualifiers (which is the effect) is the way to go though :unsure Surely they can allow online qualifiers, just take the money in advance to avoid the checknraise and goalpoker scenarios.....

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!!

Easy way around it is for the online poker room to send the WSoP application form to the qualifier' date=' and for him to send it on to the WSoP, thus making it a direct application and no worries[/quote']Exactly. Or they pay the player the buy-in and credit him his expenses upon receipt of the buy-in proof. :ok

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!!

Hey guys and gals, Havent read the WHOLE thread but notice you all seem to have your eye on the $1500. Why is that? No reason why not I guess but there is a $1000 tourny that goes on as well so whys no one talking about that?
moFace won an entry into a $1500 tournament this year and did very well (made the money). I think that's probably what's focussed people's attention on the $1500. But as you say, there are a few events at around the same buy-in.

Re: Project WSOP 2007 - BELIEVE!!!!! Im just suprised no one wants to enter the $1000 instead. If you want a PL gang all gunning on the same tourny tho fair enough though. I was just thinking I doubt theres hardly anyone, if anyone at all thats played in as big as a $1000 buy in before out of their own pocket, so seems strange everyone is going even further up to the $1500 if you see what I mean. Are they any online qualifying tournies for the $1000 and $1500 events? Anyone know?
