Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th 5:30 Ayr - Spirit Of Alsace (5/1 Paddy Power) 1pt Win Second place to Kosika, when running under a penalty, last time out looks decent form with the winner having gone in again since. Is still unexposed after on only 9 career starts and could improve further at the specialist trip of 7 furlongs. Jim Goldie's horses look to be running into a bit of form few better apprentice jockeys around than Connor Beasley.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th 15.30 Ayr: Jazz @ 5/1 Bet365 Competitive 7f handicap in its own right with some decent horses in the line-up. However I feel the 3yo colt Jazz has a very fine chance to finally win in handicap company for the first time. He seems already a bit exposed with 14 starts to his name, however the 7f trip is quite unknown territory. In his only start over this distance came in a pretty strong class handicap where he finished good third against some excellent opposition. On that evidence it is hard to say if he really gets the trip, but on pedigree he certainly has every chance to stay that far and in fact pull out some further improvement. At Doncaster over 6f lto he was quite unlucky in my mind, when he didn't get a run at a crucial stage of the race, and he lost position as a result, however once getting out, he finished the race very well under hands and heels, suggesting that a step up in trip is very much what he wants. Considering that he is the highest rated horse in this field, with potentially more to come, he must be extremely well weighted and with his trainer having a fine record at Ayr, I firmly believe that, he is the horse to beat. Main danger could be Order Of Service, who won nicely over 7f on his penultimate start and was just caught in the dying moments of the race at Ayr today, over 1m. He'll apreciate the drop in trip and can race off the same mark. However he steps up in class and had a two fairly hard races in quick succession already, this tomorrow could be potentially too much. with that in mind, Jazz is a confident selection to win this race.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th 415 Newton Abbot: Grey Blue 9/2 Coral Henderson novice who has been hard to win with and has been called a few names for maybe not putting it all in. Im not sure about that and looks reasonably treated on a mark of 115 for his handicap debut and worth another chance. Needs producing late and jockey Nico de Boinville will have learnt from last time.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th Jim Goldie has two in the race but Graham Lee doesn't get the call up for any of them, looks a very open handicap any of them could win and interesting Graham Lee gets the leg up on trainer Alistair Whillans 4yr old gelding. The 4yr old's done the rounds when it comes to trainers and started off his career with Mr Hannon ''Snr'' - he only has the two wins from 15 starts and only beat one horse home when he was last seen here at Ayr but as we all know, strange things happen in racing. 16:30 Ayr - Woodstock 0.5 E/w @ 16/1 The Magic Sign.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th 4.15 Newton Abbot - Lyssio win @ 15/2 BetVictor Lyssio has never really been a horse that has been suited to a break so history suggests that his run last time out (a 5th at Stratford) was needed and that he should go better today. He has gone well here in the past and won from a 1lb lower mark over course and distance in a Novice hurdle. The ground was similar to what is forecast to be today so the conditions are suitable. The form of his C&D win is questionable though as he didn't beat a right lot but he won easily by 21 lengths which suggests that he has ability. This is a much harder race but with his liking for the conditions and the course he should go well, especially if he has come on for his comeback run.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th 6.50 WINDSOR (Class 6 - 1m2f Claiming Stakes) PERSHING @7/4 (bet365 #BOG) As the market suggests this could be a tricky race to assess but my preference goes to Pershing who has less question marks attached to his name if compared to his rivals. He's the only one with decent results over today's trip on turf (a 2nd in Class 5 and a 5th in Class 4) and the lonely gelding of the field, put in with a decent claiming price of £14,000. Looking at his recent efforts he could have had some issues lto and sardinian jockey P Sirigu (one of the most overrated younh jockeys in Italy a few years ago) is replaced by the very solid M Harley so I'm looking for a better performance today and probably a not so big step up is required to win this contest. Trainer Marco Botti won last year race with a similar horse and the yard got a very productive month of June. Not a sure thing but worth a try considering the price and the small and not exciting rest of the field.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th 3.45 Newton Abbot - 1pt win Merrion Square @ 15/2 (Ladbrokes) Not that I think this one is superbly handicapped or anything but looks likely to run his race. Is in form and these conditions are good for him. Was a 6l winner of a novice hurdle to show his wellbeing last time after some indifferent performances over the larger obstacles (twice falling and once fading out of contention). Hopefully can build on that now back over fences off a mark he can run well off. Fitness wise he should be spot on now and is the choice of Sam Twiston-Davies of the two Nicholls runners. I'm just not taken by any of the other runners to be honest and hopefully he can win this almost by default at a decent price in an open affair.

Re: Nap Of The Day Competition - Monday July 7th Percys Gal - Ripon 7:10 Stable is in really good form at the moment, registering 66/1 and 50/1 winners in the last month (11 runs) as well as one of them following up with another win, plus a separate winner. Into handicap company today, but has placed in 4 of 7 maidens. Could probably do with some rain, but lets see what happens. 10/1 Betfred - ew
