BBOTD Friday 26th July

Recommended Posts

York 6.30 - Sound Amigo 20/1 EW William Hill BOG This ones chances all depend on whether the horse is back into the form of his runs on turf at the end of last season as he has been disappointing on the AW for his last 4 starts, but at the current price he is worth a chance IMO. He ran in 3 big field handicaps 223 off mark of 78, 80 & 83 so he definitely has scope to produce a big effort and the form of them runs looks solid enough all posting decent RPR's which have been backed up by decent TS figures. Picture Dealer was a horse I put up in the daily thread for his last run and he bolted up and may well do again here but he looks short from a poor draw whereas the selection looks to have all the pace horses drawn fairly near. I wouldnt think that Mon Brav or Pea Shooter will be far away either.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 8.50 Down Royal Royal Irish Huzzar 5/2 Paddy Power A more competitive race than it looks. Dabadiyan has been impressive in a maiden and handicap at the Curragh over 12f and shapes as though he will stay the extra furlong. Like most of the Aga's he has improved and may have more in him. In fairness, the Curragh handicap he won wasn't the strongest but you can do no more than beat your opposition and he did it well. Sir Ector has won over c/d and lto finished 2nd to Irish Leger winner Royal Diamond. Any softening of the ground would play to his strengths and at 9/2 is almost but not quite an e/w bet to nothing. However the won I like is Royal Irish Huzzar who bolted up at Killarney over 14f by 11lengths won last year by Chamonix who went on to win in listed company later on in the season. The second horse there also bolted up in a maiden during the week franking the form. As a horse of uncapped potential who will stay the distance I exppect him to win here and continue his upward curve. 1 point win for nap purposes Royal Irish Huzzar 5/2 Paddy Power

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 4.20 Ascot - Best Be Careful 1pt win @ 16/1 Bet365 This horse won this race last year off a mark of 71 with the jockey taking off 5lbs. Today he races off 59 taking into account Joey Haynes' claim so he does look well handicapped if returning to form. Mark Usher had a brilliant winner earlier this week with Miracle of Medinah so I couldn't say his team are out of form but his other runners haven't been running too well. This horse does like to race up with the pace, which is a positive. I expect him to run well in this despite his recent form not being up to much.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 220 Uttoxeter: Clondaw Draft 5/4 Coral The McCain horse is very well regarded and won a point over 2m4f by a street, has finished second in his two bumpers but they were too sharp for him and this trip is a good starting point for his hurdling debut, will get 3m eventually. The trainer has found a nice opportunity to get off the mark with very few in opposition that has much scope. The Hobbs horse ran well last time but it was a weak race and has had a few chances now after a decent bumper career, he's a little disappointing. Western Prize may be the danger for Tim Vaughan but needs to improve on his fourth at Plumpton.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 1620 ascot 1pt win senockian star 11/10 betvic a 4 runner event with a case can be made for all of them, the johnston gelding has had a busy last month with 6 races with 3 wins and 2 paces and a 4th, a tad unlucky last time when the jockey dropped his whip in the last furlong, i would like to see fanning make the running today as this could be a tactical affair with no pace and a sprint finish, and i think the selection would do better with a front running tactic

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July Aragorn Icon - Down Royal 7:15 - Each Way @ 14/1 Bet365 Won at Killarney off a mark of 65 back in 2011. Runs off a mark of 49 today, which is ridiculously low, 16 pounds lower than last win. Has run on the all-weather last 5 runs, so now hits the turf for the first time in a while. Yard doing ok and Seamie Heffernan a good booking.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 6.30 York - 1pt win Mappin Time @ 16/1 (BetVictor) Backed this horse at Haydock last time over 5f but he was outpaced in the early stages (as feared) before coming home really well. He's quite a tricky type as he needs a good gallop and fast ground, ideally over 6f, but often doesn't get it all to come together and can only run adequately without winning. However, at his price, he's well worth another go this evening. He's back up to 6f on a flat track which will help and the ground is going to be on the quick side (currently good to firm, sunny day ahead). Both of his handicap wins have come off higher marks so he's fairly treated and this big field should play to his strengths. 20 runners go to post which means he'll need luck in running but the size of the field should ensure a good gallop so ultimately there should be no excuses providing luck in the run. He's drawn in the middle which could be ideal and should go very well.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 730 York - Reckoning - 14/1 - PP, Ladbrokes, Hills, £3.65 3 places available on the exchanges still, Reckoning has only has 5 runs and is open to improvement having only had the one start so far this term. 3rd behind Cubanita & Sajjhaa on only start as a 3yo and they've turned out ok. Plenty to find with the well backed Fav but she was well backed last time out too and connections turn to a hood so there is clearly a percieved problem. I think it's Graham Lee's first ride for the stable too so if 'it's off' then you can imagine him trying. Bigger on the exchanges and likely that you'll be able to find 16/1 with a Bookie b4 the off.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July York 8.00 Ehtedaam Looked a useful sort having won a Lingfield maiden last October & then a Newmarket handicap on his return in May off 82. Both wins were at 10f & spoiled the hat trick bid at that trip back at Newmarket by pulling too hard & not lasting home. Was gelded after that & reappeared in cheekpieces & down to a mile in a Sandown class3 handicap & dotted up by 5l's nine days ago. Carries a 6lb pen for that but due to go up by 10lbs from tomorrow, goes on fast ground, a mile here again & same class. Apart from perhaps the 3yo Altharoos the rest look quite exposed, he won a 7f Beverley class4 handicap LTO & is up 6lbs for that but was beaten in a Sandown class3 off the same mark as the Beverley race before that. Bet. Ehtedaam 1pt win @ 7/4 Betvictor. Rio.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July 19.15 Down Royal Valley Queen - 1PT Win 25/1 BetVictor A wide open race at Down Royal where you may do better using a pin, however Valley Queen looks massively overpriced at 25/1. She was previously with Mark Usher when racing in Britain where she won over a mile at Windsor last October, she hasn't shown a similar performance since after 3 slightly disappointing runs in Ireland since moving yards but she also perhaps hasn't had ideal races, firstly she was entered in her first hurdles race over 2m at Gowran Park, then she was given almost 6 months off racing and reappeared on the flat over a mile, she finished towards the rear of the field but may of needed the run, last time out at Sligo she was tried over 1m 2f which is probably too far for her. She returns to the mile trip here and she's on a mark of 62 with the jockey claiming 7lb also. It's not one to get heavily involved with, but this filly could cause a shock.

Re: BBOTD Friday 26th July York 7.30 - Lady Nouf - win at 9/1 bog stan james There's some doubt over the quality of this years Classic crop but Lady Neuf has form with the first two home in the Oaks. Beat Secret Gesture in a maiden last year and finished 2nd to Talent in the Newmarket trial this season Is a front runner who should be suited by this easy track, particularly if she gets an easy lead and can sprint in her own time. The odds on fave might need further or a strong pace, which she might not get in this small field I think my selection might be under-rated because it's already become a cliché that the classic generation are useless
