BBOTD Saturday 8th December

Recommended Posts

Sorry to be so keen but won't get online and made keen to back this now 2.10 Aintree This is the Becher handicap chase, one of the few races run over the National fences. Previous experience of the National course is therefore a huge advantage. I think this trip could be perfect for BIG FELLA THANKS, who has run in the National for both Paul Nicholls and Ferdy Murphy, running some big races, but ultimately not seeing out the gruelling national trip (placing 6th, 4th and 7th). The drop back to this shorter trip thus looks ideal. He is now with Tom George, making his debut for this yard recently when backed into 5/2 fav and unseating his rider. It was his first run back from a break but he can probably improve at least half a stone now he's no longer with Ferdy Murphy and has the benefit of that run under him. He has run well on soft and heavy ground in the past, and is 1lb lower than when winning a Grade 3 handicap at Newbury the other year. 8/1 Paddypower, 1 pt win.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 325 Lingfield - Silly Billy - 9/4 - Bet 365 Comes out of a race that has produced 2 subsequent winners and gets in here 1lb higher in the weights. Should have a bit more assistance from the saddle today (Saturday) and while short should take all the beating.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 2.10 Aintree - 1pt win Fabalu @ 20/1 (Hills) Fabalu looks well overpriced to me. Should strip fitter for his reappearance run and relishes a slog. Has won over 3m3f on heavy before and likes to race prominently. People may look to his poor showing in the Topham but I think he had excuses that day. It came just a week and a half after he'd run well over three miles and the way the race panned out at Aintree wasn't ideal. I think he wants to get to the front, or nearby, but they went off quickly over a trip on the short side and the ground on the quick side. Don't think he had the gas to compete really so a 3m2f slog in a smaller field on heavy ground should play to his strengths much more. He didn't jump too badly on the whole in the Topham and he definitely can jump big so I just reckon the fact they'll go slower here gives him a big shout. Has a good weight and definitely stays/acts on the ground. Obviously good connections for the national course and if he gets into a rhythm from a prominent position then it could take something good to get past him.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 1.25 Sandown - Arkrose 5/1 Bet365 BOG I backed this LTO and I will back him again tomorrow. This is a much better race than LTO but I still think this horse has more to come and with conditions likely to be perfect for him, I am hoping for another good run especially as I need to pull my finger out if I am going to catch Aidy :) The Hereford win is what catches my eye as the form of that run is pretty decent, and whilst the form of the Kempton win has some question marks over it, he did win very impressively.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 1430 sandown 1pt win ifandbutwhynot 7/2 pp going for the 3rd win of the season after winning at newcastle and at cheltenham where it beat tanerko emery, who boosted the form winning on friday, looks as if the 13lb rise in the weights may not stop the winning run

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 2.10 Aintree Big Fella Thanks 1pt win @ 7/1 Bet365 My early thoughts on this race were to go with the Paul Nicholls trained Join Together but I now feel it is worthwhile sticking with something with form over these fences. The Becher tomorrow is going to be an absolutely gruelling test in the conditions and one I fancy might just relish the challenge is Big Fella Thanks. He is now trained by Tom George which is to me is a big positive and although he unseated on his first start for the trainer after a 567 day break, he must hold every chance of running well here given his record over these fences. He has had 3 runs in the National, resulting in a 6th, a 4th and a 7th place, which is very impressive. I don’t think he gets the National trip but he clearly relishes jumping the National fences. This 3m2f on heavy ground should be right up his street as he has plenty of form at around 3m and has ran well on heavy ground in the past. Tom George is in decent enough form at the moment, as is Paddy Brennan. West End Rocker should go well off a 5lb higher mark than when winning this race last year but I would prefer to take him on this time around. It will take a monumental effort from Ballabriggs if he is to win off top weight and also from Hello Bud at the tender age of 14. I wouldn’t put anyone off backing anything trained by Peter Bowen in the race but I do feel the main threat will come from Join Together if he gets round and handles the ground. Another one that interests me is In Compliance who is Dessie Hughes’ representative in the race. He has a good record with his runners and has taken this race twice. He finished a good 5th in the National last year and will handle the ground. He hasn’t won for a while however and was pulled up on his return to action but I wouldn’t let that put me off. This may well have been the target for this horse and I would expect a decent run from him.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December Ballabriggs 2.10 Aintree - 10/1 - @Boylessport - BOG -------------------- This horse comes alive at Aintree and loves these National Fences.. Won the Grand National back in 2011 , This horse will have no problems getting the trip and if he stays out of trouble i'm sure that he will get round in one piece , Jason Maguire who won the national on Ballabriggs takes the ride again and although this race is a competitve one 10/1 looks far to over-priced could easily be 6/1 with the sort of races he runs over these fences , Even though he is top weight for me he is by easily the best horse in this races at these sort of fences.. We have seen top weights win these big races before and I believe Ballabriggs has enough grit to grind this out will be a great race to watch and hope all the jockeys and horses concerned all come back in one piece.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 1.35 AINTREE MIRIFIC @ 16/1 Boylesport (BOG) ew.5 Backed this at M Rasen last season when it tried to make all and just failed, back at a sharp track today and first time blinkers suggest similar tactics could be employed. Claimer takes off 7lb and he has had a couple of winners for the in form stable recently. Could go well at a big price.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December A2.10 West End Rocker 1pt Win 11/2 SkyBet It's not often that I back a single figure priced horse but this one ticks so many boxes that it's hard to ignore. For starters it's a c&d winner at this specialist track and it loves heavy ground. It won the race easily last year and it'll take a good one to beat it today. If anyone other than R Thornton was on it, it'd be a max bet but I still think 11/2 is a good price even with him on board.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 13:35 Aintree Kealshore Road - Jockey was motionless LTO in a Juvenile Novice hurdle where Kealshore cruised to a 23 length victory. Today's novices handicap is a bit more on the plate but proven on going and a fair weight allowance if he improves again could be thereabouts. Trainer and jockey coming across for this sole run. 0.5EW 12/1 Bet365

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December *Fling Me > Chepstow 3:45 > WIN @ 9/2 VC BOG* The favourite looks a tad skinny to me here at 6/5, as this Sherwood horse and Pipe newcomer could be anything, from powerful yards. This horse is a brother to a winner over 3 miles, so on debut, just over 2m on heavy ground should play into it's hands if it is anything like it's brother. The Sherwood yard have had 5 winners from their last 14 runners, are in cracking form, and they do well in bumpers, and in this small field this horse looks the value to me.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 3:05 Sandown Sprinter Sacre - Back Looks a really exciting prospect and looks destined to go right to the top over fences. Had his novice season over fences and destroyed everything before him, notably annihilating a strong field in the Arkle. Makes his long awaited seasonal re-appearance here and although Sanctuaire is a worthy opponent, he'll have all on to repel Sprinter Sacre here 1pt win @ 1/2 Bet365 BOG

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 1245 Wetherby: Aland Islands 10/11 Bet365 Plenty to like today as you would expect but Aland Islands stands out a the best bet for me up at Wetherby. A useful novice hurdler last season and made a very impressive debut over fences last time out and never put a foot wrong. I reckon he could go places in this sphere and must be followed while taking on this kind of company. Slightly odds on at the moment but in book should be a 4/6 shot so still value.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 13.00 Chepstow Imperial Circus 1pt win 10\3 PP Bog Two runs over fences, first time 4th at Wetherby and then 2nd at Sandown in a Class 3 handicap Chase both at distances of 3m 1f. This experience will help in the beginners chase today and should get home from the others. James Best has had both previous chase rides, so knows the horse and the 5lb claim could be valuable on the heavy going today.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 12:55 Sandown: Kentford Grey Lady 1pt win 7/2 Betfred Kentford Grey Lady has to shoulder top weight here, but she is a class act and that may not be enough to stop her. Her form in mares races against the likes of Violin Davis and Quevega reads very well even it it flatters her a touch.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December Cannington Brook 2.05pm Chepstow - 1pt WIN @ 9-2 SportingBet Mud lover that attempts to carry top weight but could do so against what are a lot of class 4 type rivals. The Pipe horse is a danger and on a good mark but hoping this can make it a true stamina test as a few have question marks about them over 3m and on such heavy ground. Drops from a grade 1 chase to a class 2 chase and has a jcokey taking off an extra 3lb.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 13.35 Aintree: Explained, 14/1 >Bet365, e/w Explained won his maiden over hurdles lto on soft ground. He made all and jumped quite well, with one or two mistakes, to win by 1¼L. He finished third in his first start this season. He ran well but tired after two out and probably needed that run. That was his first start over hurdles and again he jumped quite well except for one or two mistakes. He won both his starts in NHF races. He steps back up in trip to 2½ miles having won over 17f lto. He runs off a mark of 117 in his handicap debut which looks fair and he should be involved near the finish. Trainer Tim Vaughn is having a decent season, with a 16% SR. Aidan Coleman is in the saddle.

Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th December 2.50 - Lingfield - Norwegian Reward @ 5/4 SJ Eyecatching start for new yard on Thursday when finishing 3rd running 6lb out of the handicap. Upped to 1m which should help based on the way he finished his race. Weaker race today and De Sousa onboard once again. Short price but hard to look past here.
