AHughes
Re: League 1 > 25th August Maybe worth punting on Swindon Town on Saturday. MK Dons are missing so many key players in Smith + Gleeson + Anton Kay (Suspended) and Mathias Doumbe and Shaun Williams missing out due to Injury. The Dons only have a wafer thin squad as it is and could struggle to fill their bench.
Jase82
I think I'll have to have a think over our game. Two away trips in the space of a few days isn't ideal, and we're struggling to get sixty minutes out of some of our players. Lee Williamson came off after barely half an hour tonight. And our administrator has stated that there is no more money to sign any further players. With that in mind, I think Carlisle could be worth a shot given that we have not lasted the full ninety minutes in both our games so far. We are still creating chances though, with a couple off the post tonight, and McLeod should have had one. Maybe over 2.5 goals as we are playing decent football by all accounts. It's just where we are lacking fitness wise.

Their only senior striker Cadamarteri came closest through a glancing header but nothing more then from Carlisle. With Portsmouth having the better individual players, I can see them getting a result. Probably not too many goals in this one.

Jase82
A couple of Pompey fans have pledged £40,000 towards the wages of two, maybe three players until january 2013. So we may see more signings between now and Saturday.

The Dons only have a wafer thin squad as it is and could struggle to fill their bench.I haven't looked too closely into the odds for this game yet but this could potentially throw up a bit of value on Swindon to win to nil bet. Albeit in a weaker division, Swindon went the last 17 home games last season conceding just 1 goal. An incredible record that I felt they could keep going into 2012/13 with against the weaker teams of L1. The two home games against Brighton (3-0) and Crawley (3-0) have shown that teams will find them hard to break down at the County Ground this season as well. Whilst I'm not as keen on the win to nil bet against a proven top L1 team in MK Dons, the team news may make all the difference.
Mindfulness
Re: League 1 > 25th August Coventry City V Bury Coventry City @ 4/5 (Betfair) 2.5 Units I’m sure punters will look at this straight-forward 1X2 bet and ask where’s the value? It’s not normally my style to take bets like these nowadays but I believe Coventry should see this as a good opportunity to get their first 3 points of the season here. The sky blues opening two matches ended in draws with tough games at Yeovil and at home to the favorites Sheffield Utd. I am a bit concerned about Cov offensively at this stage but Bury have 1 or 2 problems going into this game. I believe the away side will have experienced centre-back Efe Sodje serving the last of his 3 match ban here while key midfielder Steven Schumacher will also be suspended after being sent off in their last game at Donny. If this info is incorrect then please let me know! Caretaker manager Peter Shirtliff could really do without these kinds of absences while trying to steady the ship after the departure of Barker. To summarise Coventry have played pretty solid so far and they should look to push on and get their first league win here against a Bury team which is under the kosh at the moment. I welcome people’s views on this one as I’ve taken it early.
RedDevil92
Re: League 1 > 25th August Indeed a very good chance for Coventry. Although they didn't do well against Sheffield, as they visitors were the better team, having more shots and also more possession. But Coventry look to big for a poor Bury side. Bury lost Worrall to an early injury and captain Schumacher after his straight red carf after a bit more than an hour. Coventry will miss offensive midfielder Fleck but they should have still too much for Bury.

Jase82
Carlisle signed Jake Jervis from Birmingham on a one-month loan deal. Can't see him as an improvement for their offense as he is just from Birmingham's second team. It's hard to tell really how much game time he'll get and whether he'll fit in at Carlisle. He's a fairly tall lad at 6'3". He has decent pedigree at this level already, having been on loan at Hereford, Swindon, notts county, and Preston. He has seemingly come in and scored goals at that level too, which is hard to do if you're a young player just coming into a squad full of professionals for maybe a month at a time. He also has made a smattering of substitute Appearances for Birmingham, and helped their academy reach the youth cup semi final in 2009. Jase82
Bury have signed 33 year old striker David Healy on a year long contract. Although his career has been very stop start over the last few years, you've got to think he can add something at this level. Also signed is ex Leicester midfielder Shane Byrne. Both should bolster the squad against Coventry.

Bury still have key absences and are not exactly world beaters on the road, still an interesting development with the new signings.
swindonfan
Re: League 1 > 25th August For people thinking of backing Swindon there is a chance Matt Ritchie may be left out on Saturday. Bobby Vegas
Re: League 1 > 25th August Shrewsbury Vs Tranmere I'm going to have a small punt on this one purely based on Shrewsbury's home form last season. Despite a good start I don't think Tranmere are that much better than some of the top teams in L2. Therefore 6/4 on a team that won 18 and drew 5 at home last season looks a decent bet to me. Shrewsbury actually continued this form with their first home game of the season against Preston (1-0). It wont be easy against a Tranmere team that have started the season impressively with 2 league victories and an extra time win in the cup against Chesterfield but that run has to end at some time and this fixture won't be easy for them. Shrewsbury to win @ 6/4 (BetVictor and BlueSquare) 1pt (5)

Jase82
Re: League 1 > 25th August Lee Williamson is out of our trip to Cumbria to face Carlisle. That is a blow, but we played most of the game against Colchester without him, so hopefully we can survive. That does leave us with sixteen players. How big a loss do you think Paul Caddis' departure will be? Looks like ritchie will be playing saturday. Wouldnt be surprised if there are offers for him in the next few weeks though. I think Caddis will be a big loss over time many Swindon fans may not agree with that though. Di Canio tends to fall out with people over basically nothing and a small misunderstanding can escalate into one of your top players leaving when it just isnt neccesary. If di Canio want to be a manager at a higher level or take Swindon to a higher level then he needs to learn to compromise I think. Some players need a bit of love and the big stick approach wont always work. If Ritchie leaves even for a lot of money I think it will be catastrophic for Swindon his game has improved massively over the last 18 months. He is the one that makes it all happen. Jase82
I can vouch for that... Ritchie played for us in the premier league and looked at home then.... I was surprised when we let him go, and even further surprised he dropped down to league two. I can see him playing In the premier league within a year, if he doesn't get signed by a championship club.
Sir Puntalot
Re: League 1 > 25th August Bournemouth could well be worth another look here. They drew 1-1 with MK Dons in their first home match, but my ratings say they battered them and could have easily come away with a 2 goal win. Preston lost away to Shrewsbury, hardly an impressive performance. 2.10 @ Betvictor could look generous Saturday FT.
Sir Puntalot
Re: League 1 > 25th August Carlisle look a shocking price to me. :eek Sure Portsmouth have their ongoing problems, but Carlisle's home performance against Tranmere actually gave them a -3 rating. I can't even begin to tell you just how bad you have to play to do that! Portsmouth did only produce an average performance away to Colchester, but I certainly wouldn't be steaming into Carlisle, I'd rather put my head in a blender. Sir Puntalot
Re: League 1 > 25th August Yeovil look a very big price away to Scunthorpe. Ok, we're only 1 home and away game in, but they didn't just sneak a lucky win against Brentford, they came out convincing winners according to the ratings. Scunthorpe put in a very poor performance at home to Crewe, and Yeovil @ 3.50 Betvictor looks very juicy.
Sir Puntalot
Re: League 1 > 25th August Blimey, it looks like there's a few juicy bets in this division this week as I'm using the ratings to check the team's performances. Tranmere look huge to beat Shrewsbury, they've scored 6 goals already and Shrewsbury just the 1 goal. Tranmere absolutely took Carlisle apart in their last away game and Shrewsbury got 1-0 win they didn't really deserve, even so it was a poor performance against Preston. 3.09 @ Pinnacle looks a very big price indeed. Swindon look to be underestimated against MK Dons too. They comfortably beat Crawley 3-0, whilst MK Dons away to Bournemouth was a very very lucky draw and without doubt should have lost. Swindon 2.38 @ Blue Square is a very takeable price.
south_eastern_ram
Re: League 1 > 25th August I agree about Yeovil and Swindon.
