Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Ok, I'm going to try my hand at the cricket:eek. 4 bets for today's match. Sri Lanka v Pakistan, 1 or more stumpings, 3pts @ 6/5 SportingBet I just think this is a big price in what is likely to be a tight match and, at the business end, players will have to be going for their shots. More importantly though is the spin that is in both attacks, with Murali, Herath & Rehman amongst those that could beat the bat for Kamran Akmal & Sangakarra to do the rest. I expect this to go the distance and a third of the overs todays will be spin so odds against looks a decent price for a stumping. Pakistan opening partnership, under 31.5 runs, 4pts @ 5/6 William Hill Hafeez & Shehzad as a partnership don't look the greatest. They've covered this total just twice in their last 6 ODI's, once in the series against NZ and the other against an average looking Bangladeshi attack. Sri Lanka's attack is a little bit stronger so I expect a wicket to fall pretty early. In addition, the pressure will be on them to start a little quicker too so more chances should come the way of Sri Lanka with the openers having to go for their shots. N.Kulasekara, top Sri Lanka bowler, 1.5pts @ 4/1 Coral T.Perera, top Sri Lanka bowler, 1.5pts @ 4/1 Coral No Malinga so I'll take the combined 6/4 on these 2 to win in this market. The 2 fast bowlers in the line up so the price looks big when they are likely to open the bowling against a vulnerable Pakistani batting line up, early doors especially. Both took 3 wickets in their opening win so I'll take the value against bowlers less familar to the Pakistani's than Murali. M.Ul-Haq, top Pakistan batsman, 2pts EW @ 6/1 Coral (1/5 1-3) Topped the averages in the NZ ODI series so 6's looks massive to me. Add to that in his last 3 OD innings since that series, he's hit 100, 25 and 65, I just don't understand the price. If Sri Lanka can take out the first few early, he'll get a good chance to play himself in so with Corals paying 3 places, I'll get on.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Taking 1 more now. Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka, 4pts @ 5/4 Totesport Despite what's been said about this ground and how it favours the side batting first, Pakistan are still odds against despite having won the toss and electing to bat. Add to that there is no Malinga or Mendis in the Sri Lankan bowling attack, I feel the momentum lies with the underdogs. Pakistan are certainly going for it withhave a very nice balance in their side and I'll take them at a decent price.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Sri Lanka vs pakistan Pakistan to win 6/5 bet365 Now the toss has been done, will be backing pakistan as it is notoriously difficult to chase at this ground, plus afridi and rehman will get turn later on, pleased there's no malinga either, stick 260-270 on the board and it won't be any easy chase for the hosts here.:ok

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Woke up slightly late so missed the start, hence little reasoning. Pakistan are currently 17/0 after 3.3 Was always my intention to back the team that won the toss for the reasons Kev has already stated. Pakistan have also won their last 2 games against Sri Lanka here I believe. Therefore: 5pts Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka at 6/5 in play with Betfair

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 One in play bet for me and its a max stake bet... 10 points Pakistan to score over 2.5 6s @ 1.61 B365 Currently Pakistan are 174/3 with 15 overs left. 1 6 has already been hit so we need 2 6s from 15 overs. Theres Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi & Abdul Razzaq all to come and im sure they're all going to come out with a license to hit.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Unusual that Pakistan only managed 1 six. They are in a good position though, and I think it should be a great 2nd innings with Pakistan going in with the upper hand. One hope for Pakistan sixes bet is that SL only managed 2 sixes against Canada. Hopefully Pakistans bowlers can keep them to none. :hope

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011

3pts Pakistan Total Extras - Over 14.5 5/6 Ladbrokes Pakistan concede a lot of extras normally as their discipline isn't there at all. Shoaib slides down leg side a lot and his pace leads to leg byes, Gul concedes no balls like he's been in touch with mystery agents and the spinners can also concede byes/leg byes. Pakistan conceded 11 extras in 33 overs against Kenya on Wednesday and that was without being under pressure. Sri Lanka are likely to put the pressure on a bit more here so I think the 15 extras is well within reach.
:wall Banging my head on this one. Just got off a 20 min call with Ladbrokes to find out why this was settled as a loser. According to them, this bet refers to the number of extras Pakistan concede while batting, in other words number of extras from Sri Lankan's bowling if that makes any sense. The guy on the other line, like me thought it was misleading but since it's stated in their definitions/rulebook they/we can't do much about it which sucks.

Sri Lanka v Pakistan' date= 1 or more stumpings, 3pts @ 6/5 SportingBet Pakistan opening partnership, under 31.5 runs, 4pts @ 5/6 William Hill N.Kulasekara, top Sri Lanka bowler, 1.5pts @ 4/1 Coral T.Perera, top Sri Lanka bowler, 1.5pts @ 4/1 Coral M.Ul-Haq, top Pakistan batsman, 2pts EW @ 6/1 Coral (1/5 1-3)
Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka' date= 4pts @ 5/4 Totesport
Beginners luck:lol. A great start but the test is whether I can keep it going! All 5 up (Perera a tie) so that puts me +27.08pts:ok Excellent stuff again from others, especially the Pakistan win:clap

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011

WIN - 3pts Fall of 1st Sri Lanka Wicket Over 30.5 runs 5/6 Ladbrokes LOSS - 4pts Pakistan Most 6's 6/5 Boylesports WIN - 3pts K. Akmal Performance Pts Over 41.5 5/6 Boylesports
Dilshan gave me a few heart-attacks at the beginning of the innings but as usual, him and Tharanga produced the goods. Annoyingly Pakistan only hit one six but Akmal's stumping turned the day into profit. Overall +1.85 so far for the tournament. Should be a cracker tomorrow. I''m thinking about one or two more but for the time being: 2pts England to beat India 2/1 Bet365 England are the inferior team & have a horrible record against India, in India in One-Day International cricket. They're are in horrible form and were almost beaten by an Associate nation last time out. They have played a ridiculous amount of cricket lately and will find themselves playing in an extremely hostile atmosphere in Bangalore tomorrow against (arguably) the best side in the competition. The odds are stacked heavily against England here but despite everything I've just said, I think it could work in their favour. I personally think the bookmakers have overreacted a touch to India's massive score against Bangladesh last week. It's not often that Sehwag hits 175 runs in an innings and it's also not often that a team scores 370 in 50 overs. I feel India at under 1/2 are a touch too short. The pressure, in a way will be completely off England. If they lose this match then it won't really be much of a surprise. We all know that if England get it right on the day, they can beat anyone in the world. As much as I didn't want him to last time out, Strauss hit some much needed runs and the partnership up top with KP looks in good order. I just feel similar to todays match that the expectation on the home side will be so great that England will be able to go out and play without fear. The toss will be key and with the threat of Duckworth/Lewis on the horizon, England are serious value at 2/1. 5pts Paul Collingwood Performance Points 38 & Over 5/6 Bet365 3pts Paul Collingwood Number of Wickets Over 0.5 7/4 Ladbrokes Was going to play with the performance points bet as I thought it was very low. I then went on Ladbrokes and saw the odds on Colly to take a wicket and thought that price was simply too high. In sub-continent conditions, Colly will bowl quite a few overs. Last time out he bowled 8 overs against Canada and snagged himself a wicket. India will more than likely bowl upward of 40 overs so if that is the case, they will need to find 15 overs or so in the middle period and if we leave out Yardy again, they will need to come from either Collingwood/Pietersen or Bopara. Collingwood is easily the better of the three and Pietersen could be very expensive against a high quality batting line up so Paul will get the majority of those. One wicket isn't too much of a shock for Collingwood and at 7/4 I think it's worth a shout. On top of the chance of taking a wicket, he is arguably the best fielder in world cricket at the moment and has made the gully region his own. The threat of a catch is always there and so too is the threat of runs. He will get time to bat, I expect England to be 4 down with atleast 10 overs to spare so getting 20 or so runs is easily do-able. A potential match saving/winning innings will come sooner or later and I think that both of these lines have a pretty decent probability of coming in. 4pts Virat Kohli Match Runs Over 28.5 5/6 Ladbrokes He's in great touch with the bat and is playing with great confidence. He has showed the world he's a top player and is intent of keeping Suresh Raina out of the side. Definitely feel that he can clear 29 runs tomorrow against a fairly misfiring England bowling attack at the ground he plays at regularly for the Royal Challengers. Coming in at #4 should mean this shouldn't be clouded too much by rain if there is any tomorrow.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Sport Cricket Event India v England Selection Lay England (Lay) Strength 10/10 Date 27/02/2011 Bookmaker/Price Stan James @ 3.16 Reasoning Everything points towards an India win, and sometimes when it does, the opposite happens. But in this case, I don't see it, and think India have far too much. Top class batsmen in nick and loving the conditions, with a raucous crowd behind them. Solid enough bowling, with a lot fo spin options and again well suited to the conditions. England look a bit of a shambles, and t's not surprising after the long, hard winter and a lot of injuries. In particular the bowling unit looks flat, bar Swann none of them look destructive and god only know what Sehwag, Tendulkar, Gambir, Kohli, Pathan and the rest could do to them if they get in. Major shock if England get the win here, but I see them enduring a tough campaign, squeezing through 3rd or 4th and losing in the quarters to Australia (again) or Pakistan.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Taking 3 in the next game. England vs India, over 14.5 wides, 4pts @ 5/6 William Hill Pinching one of Kev's favourite bets here:lol. This has a super shout. In the last 6 OD innings these 2 teams have faced, they've amassed 10+ wides on 5 of those occasions, the only one not to happen was in England's win over the Netherlands. The Indians were not under pressure in any of those 3 but still conceded over 30 wides, and with England set to be tougher opponents, I can see quite a few loose deliveries being thrown in. Add to that the extra bounce that could exist, I'll take Jimmy to add to the total too. Plenty in our favour here, so I expect 14.5 to be a shade on the low side. Y.Pathan, top India batsman, 1pt EW @ 12/1 Coral (1/5 odds 1-3) It's a question of how many wickets we get here and whether Pathan gets in to make himself an innings. If he does, then 12's is a stupid price. Only a month ago, he hit a ton against South Africa so he's in pretty good form. Other than a 32 since, hasn't really had any chance to build a score but hopefully our bowlers can grab a few early wickets to give this bet a chance. The other point of note is that Pathan also top scored the last time a ODI was held here, a ton just before Christmas against NZ. I don't see Sehwag or Kohli putting in another big show, so the dangers probably lie with Sachin, Gambhir & Yuvraj. However, at 12's and paying 3 places, I'll take my chance. S.Broad, top England bowler, 2pts @ 3/1 Coral Price looks a shade big in a field consisting mainly of out of sorts bowlers. Since coming back from injury, has taken 12 wickets in his 3 OD games including 2 5 wicket hauls. Would have landed this bet on each of those occasions (the most recent being a tie). Anderson has never gone well here and I expect to continue that today. It's expected the ball will swing a bit so this looks right up Broad's street. Bresnan could be a danger but he doesn't look the most reliable wicket taker. I'm not going mad on this but am happy to have a couple of points and take my chance.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Awesome tipping Russ, keep up the good work. Going in with one bet for the big one tomorrow. 3pts - Yuvraj Singh 40pts & over - 5/6 (bet365) Although there is no real form behind this selection, there is something about England which brings the best out of Yuvraj. Going way back to 2002 to the natwest final at lords to more recently in the world t20 in South Africa and the last ODI series between these two teams, Yuvraj has excelled. He didn't get a hit against Bangladesh but you would think the English bowlers will get a few wickets to bring Yuvraj to the crease. In addition to runs with the bat, he will also bowl his fair share of overs since India only operate with four specialist bowlers. He is a useful slow left arm especially to right handers which England have an abundance of so a wicket or two wouldn't be a surprise. Two wickets would do the trick while one reduces the runs requirement by half so all in all I'm backing Yuvi to clear 40pts at Bangalore tomorrow.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 And just to add to that I'm taking: 1pt - Yuvraj Singh MOTM - 16/1 (bet365) With mainly reasoning as above. He's someone who's always in the game which is what you want from a MOTM candidate. Runs and wickets will put him in the frame if the result goes in India's favour.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Not good. Having thought I'd made a small profit on Saturday's match it turns out to be a 3.75pt loss after the completely misleading nature of that market. -19.87 overall so need a good week now. Taking 5 tomorrow. 5pts Over 14.5 wides 5/6 Blue Square England almost cost me the other day but thankfully the Dutch came good for me but I don't expect England to bowl so few wides in this match. They'll be under a lot more pressure with the ball and I'm pretty certain the dew will come in in this match. The wicket turned square in the warm up matches so it's quite possible that the spinners struggle to control the spin and a few go down leg side for wides. Neither England or India are particularly disciplined with the ball and both have left and right handers in their top 3 so I'll hit this wides line. 4pts Over 6.5 6's 5/6 William Hill I like this line. The boundaries at the Chinnaswamy aren't the biggest and the wicket usually plays ok even if it does turn a bit. It's the first match of the tournament itself to be held here and even though there's been a fair bit of rain around I still think the wicket will be good particularly with India on show. Yusuf cleared this on his own in the last game here and although this match has been moved from Kolkata to Bangalore, if we continue with all that short ball nonsense balls will still be landing in Eden Gardens even if it isn't being used. In an ideal world India will bat first here because I give England absolutely no chance of winning. If India do bat first they could smack us all around the sub-continent. Even if they don't, in the likes of KP, Bopara and dare I say Prior we've got some 6 hitters too so it's the overs for me. 4pts H.Singh's Performance Pts - 40&Over 5/6 Bet365 Points are scored as follows: 1pt per run, 10pts per catch & 20pts per wicket. I like Harbhajan here. Most of the English batsmen can't play spin and he takes his wickets against England in this country at a rate of one every 29 balls so with a full allotment of overs he'll cover this at that rate. This wicket will turn, I'm pretty sure of that. If there's pace and bounce it plays into England's hands so I think it'll turn maybe not square but it'll turn enough for Harbhajan to get it to move. If he doesn't cover it with the ball he can bat and he can catch so there's a couple of minor scoring chances. He took 3 for 15 in 5 overs against the Aussies on this ground in the warm up match and I think he'll take 2 for here. 3pts K.Pietersen's Runs - Over 28.5 5/6 Paddy Power Kevin Pietersen has a good record against India in India, averaging 56.08 from 14 matches. This is also his home ground in the IPL so a couple of things work in his favour. He batted nicely against the Dutch although his innings did stall late on. He was past this total by then however. I think the wicket will be ok initially and given that he knows it so well I'll take the Surrey man to score 29 or more. 1pt ew Y.Singh Top India Batsman 15/2 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) Yuvraj has an insane record against England. As Westy eludes to above he has scored well against us on a few occasions and an ODI average of 73.62 with a strike rate bordering 110 is incredible really. The strike rate shows England haven't worked out a way to get him out and his convertion rate of 3 tons from 4 times he's made it to 50 shows he loves nothing more than filling his boots against us. He'll like our pace element, especially if we continue with that short crap. The slight downside to this is he's out of form but he wouldn't be the first batsman England have played back into form. I'm a massive massive fan of this guy, he's probably my favourite batsman in world cricket and given that he seems to deliver every time he plays England I'll take him to go large once more.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Pakistan win bringing me up to 21 points profit for the tournament. 10pts India to beat England at 4/9 with Ladbrokes Simply put, India are a far better side than England are - particularly in this format. The pitch should suit the spinners and I really see England struggling in the middle overs. Bonus may be the fact that Sreesanth may be dropped for Chawla as well. Not going to go into too much detail, see my outright if more is wanted. However India are a quality side all the way down. They have the best batting lineup in world cricket, and they are up against a pretty average bowling unit in this format. 10 overs to be made up from Collingwood/KP is a serious worry. Even if Yardy is brought in, Bopara is likely to be dropped hence weakening the batting lineup. Sehwag coming off a big innings, Sachin looked in good nick before the run out, Gambhir scoring consistantly, and Kohli is in the form of his life. Only takes one of them to have a good game in order to set it up for Yuvraj, Dhoni, Pathan, and Bhaji to finish off. No brainer here. 3pts Tendulkar -2.5 runs vs KP at 5/6 with Ladbrokes More than happy to take The Little Master here to score 3 more runs than KP. KP in a new role up the order and opening - question marks there already as it is definitely not his natural position. He is a naturally aggressive player though and will look to score quickly, particularly against the India quicks early on. This mindset could lead to quick runs, but it could equally lead to loose shots and chances for India. Sachin Tendulkar needs to explanation - arguably the best batsman of all time. His role in the side is to bat for as long as possible whilst Sehwag at the other end bats more aggressively. He looked in very good nick against Bangladesh before a comical run out, and very rarely plays a stupid shot. His consistency is ridiculously good, he's a smarter batsman than KP, a better batsman than KP, and harder to get out than KP. Therefore happy to take this bet at the odds.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 *inplay Piyush Chawla top Indian bowler 4/1 Bluesq At the innings break, England will need 340 to win, will have to take their chances, they may target the leg spinner more than Harbhajan and try and hit him out of the attack, Chawla is decent with his variations it may skid on a bit under lights plus the dew factor comes into play, prepared to take a chance on him.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Halfway there on the wides so fingers crossed on that one. Pathan got in too late whilst Broad's not playing so that's -2pts so far with the wides determining a good/bad result for me. I'm taking one more. M.Prior to top score for England, 1pt EW @ 8/1 Coral (1/5 odds 1-3) Is 12's elsewhere but I'd rather play it safe on the EW. There's a few things that draw me towards Prior here. Firstly, with Bopara replaced by Yardy, I expect him to bat at 6, a place higher than he would have batted with Ravi in the team. India's big total of almost 350 means we'll definitely go all the way, overs wise, and it's highly likely he'll have opportunity at the crease. His form ain't too bad either; in his last 3 ODI's where he's batted in the middle order, he's finished 5th-1st-2nd, making at least 20+. Pressure will be on the top order to start quickly too, needing almost 7 an over so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few early wickets, throwing this market wide open.

Re: Cricket: ICC World Cup 2011 Call me mad but taking England @ 9.60 in-play (chasing 339) basically to trade, think KP will come out all guns blazing here and with Strauss strong at finding gaps backing him up England's price could come down a fair bit before the spinners come into play.
