  1. I was looking at the two novice hurdles first up at Fos Las and MR for a big priced EW shot for the Naps comp but nothing appealed to me. ( For the comp I think you've got be looking at 25/1 and above for EW selections)

But at smaller odds and more suitable maybe for betting I quite like this one.....

    MR 2.10 - For Goodness Sake - EW at 12/1 bog bet365

There's only 4 horses here under 100/1 and my selection is the outsider of those 4. You have a Henderson hot pot making hurdles debut after nearly a year off, one carrying a penalty and one who was poor on the flat but finished placed in a couple of ordinary hurdles. You'd hope that at least one of them wouldn't finish in the places

My horse won on the flat in Ireland on soft ground, finished 2nd on hurdles debut then flopped on heavy ground when a short price second time out. The connections stated that he didn't handle the heavy ground. Take that run out and he'd be 2nd favourite here

I've tried to fit in a 'do the hippy, hippy, shake '........but I'll leave it at that !

    :D

  2. 3.55 MR - Lockstockandbarrel - win at 11/8 bog wm hill

    Novice chase

Couple of non runners have left only 4 in at this stage and a couple of them look up against it on official ratings

My selection is the least exposed of the field. He won a maiden hurdle a year ago for Willie Mullins then reappeared after a year off for Jonjo in a novice chase at Chepstow, finishing 3rd, beaten 18L

Not surprisingly he looked as though he would come on for the run and the Post highlighted him as one who could improve a lot.

Has a staying pedigree so should be suited by the extra 5F and has Dickie Johnson up.

main market rival Deep Trouble has better form and has been running in some decent races so he's got a great chance. Looks a bit one paced and to date his best form on been on better ground

  3. Asc 3.35 - Royal Regatta - win at 9/1 bog wm hill

Big race of the day, grade one chase over 21F

Taking a bit of a chance with Royal Regatta as he's one of the lowest rated on official figures

However he's an improving young horse, a CD winner and is up against quite a few old timers here who have questions to answer, particularly the market leaders, Silviniaco Conti and Dynaste

A surprise could be on the cards !

  4. OK, think I've found it........you have to go to the ATR Player and there's a schedule on there

No mention of this programme coming up this weekend though........I expect it might be a special edition of The Sunday Forum tomorrow rather than a one off show but it's not shown in the schedule

I know she was the guest for yesterday's coverage on ATR Trotter but not sure about a special programme?

I think that's where they mentioned this programme but I didn't catch when it was on !

Is there a Programme Schedule anywhere on the website ?........it would seem remarkable if there isn't but I can't find it !

  6. Quickie......

Anyone who uses the At The Races website

How do you find the Programme Schedule, like What On the Channel ?

I heard someone mention a special programme on Women In Racing with Hayley Turner and I'm trying to find out when it's on !

Can't see the TV Schedule anywhere on the site.......:@:@

  7. I'm not sure that Victoria should still be aiming for Cheltenham this year

Even before the incident she didn't look very confident, riding a few lengths off the back as though she was worried about riding amongst other horses. I thought when she rode a couple of flat races that she either hung at the back or went out wide

Quite understandable that she'd be a bit wary of being amongst the pack but the hurly burly of a 20-odd runner race at Cheltenham doesn't look ideal

  8. Sand 3.50 - Briac - EW at 80/1 bog wm hill

    Novice hurdle

Going for one out of left field today.

We've got a right hotpot in this race, Protek des Flos, who won the grade 2 juvenile hurdle at Cheltenham last time and looks a mile above these in class. They're obviously getting another run into him for experience before tackling the Triumph Hurdle.

I'm banking on a couple of the more fancied ones here trying to make a race of it with him and grinding to a halt in the finishing straight just waiting to be passed by a trundler who's been held up out the back............which of course would be my horse !

My horse didn't do too bad in his bumpers last year - 3 runs with a 2nd and two 3rds, but he has been pretty poor over hurdles this year. Showed a bit more last time when beaten 22L at Kempton where he was still in touch at the back until about 3 out. Today's shorter trip might enable him to stay in touch until nearer the finish

I suspect his shrewd trainer is aiming for a handicap mark but this might not be a bad race to place in and earn a mark given that the handicapper is probably not going to rate them by the grade 2 winner if he wins by miles (and you never know, he might fall !)

  9. Good luck with the Pot BH !

I've gone for Soll in the Grand National trial.......not convinced by Unioniste though it would appear to be between those two. Unioniste seems to have gone a bit sour lately and I'm not sure returning to the track so quickly is the right thing to do with him.

    We'll see !

Lots of small fields today which is a bit of a bummer as I've been trying to get some bigger priced EW shots lately having gone through a lean spell trying to find winners..........there's no races today that have an EW feel about them

I like the look of Jayo Time in the 2.45 at Leicester but only 3 runners and no decent odds on any of them really and he's favourite. The Post have gone for All Together but he looks a bit of a dicky jumper.......that's a dilemma becasue you'd think jumping was more difficult ou of heavy ground but on the other hand the ground and small field might mean they go really slow which will give plenty of time to get the fences right. I'll be watching how he gets on at the jumps !

  10. Kels 3.05 - Soll - win at 7/4 bog betvictor

    Grand National Trial

The likely favourite here is Unioniste for the Nicholls team. He ran his best race for a while last time out to finish 3rd but he's looked very in and out for a while now and puts in a few bad ones. Even last time he was out the back and struggling before running on through tiring horses. I'm not sure he can be trusted to run his race and he's only had 12 days to recover from that run at Sandown

Corrin Wood appears to have declined markedly in the last couple of years

Neptune Equester is a game old horse aged 13 who is a real course specialist but usually runs in lesser races than this and even on heavy ground he might be outpaced over today's trip......his last two wins have been over 4 miles. However he's in good form and loves it here

Soll is the top rated on official figures, acts on heavy and won last time out. All his career wins have come in the 3 months January to March so this is his time of year. My main concern is that 6 of is 7 wins have come in double figure fields and there's only 4 runners today. It might be that he needs cover or a strong pace to run at........but his one win in a small field was gained by making all and I think that could be the best tactic today unless one of the others strides out

  11. I wouldn't be that keen on Mountainous for the National to be honest

All his 6 wins under rules have been on Heavy ground (one on Soft) at either Ffos Las or Chepstow, both of which have the reputation of being really, really, Heavy, bogs basically

I think even over the National trip he might get outpaced on better ground and on a flat track........:loon:loon

    still.........it's all about opinions !.........:ok

  12. 1.20 Towc - Viva Rafa - ew at 20/1 bog wm hill

    Novice hurdle over 2 miles

We've got a well odds-on favourite here, currently 2/7, in William H Bonney. In a poor looking race the fact that he is a winner and has finished 2nd at Newbury makes him the obvious one.......and he'll probably win but there are some doubts over him. His win was at Plumpton, sa very different track to Towcester, and he beat a load of tree stumps who have all been well beaten since. The 2nd at Newbury looks OK but the Post noted that he had no extra in the last furlong which might not bode well for running up the hill here at Towcester. He has no form on a RH track and of course has a penalty to carry

I'm finding it difficult to choose between two of the EW shots, both of whom were beaten 30 odd lengths last time out on their hurdles debuts.  I've chosen my selection because I think he ran in the better race and it was on a RH track on heavy ground over a longer trip. He was in contention until fading 3 out so maybe this shorter trip will suit him early in his career (the one I didn't choose is Tipperairy)

  13. Good luck BH

Not much doing today. Didn't really fancy any EW shots for my Nap of the day.....

    I thought about this one.....

    Ayr 2.55 - Miss Blanche - ew at 33/1 bog bet365

Maiden hurdle........my horse was well beaten on urdle debut last time but had run OK up to a point and shown some promise. She led until 4 out then faded. I prefer to see horses that are up with the pace then fade rather than ones that hang around at the bak then run on when the race is over. There's a chance she might come on for that run and be able to stay with the leaders al the way round !

  14. 2.15 Sou - Kemsing - win at Evs bog wm hill

    Mile handicap for 3yo

My selection appears t be an improver now he's running on the fibresand. Won a CD handicap comfortably last time by over 3 lengths, sitting behind the pace and readily coming clear in the straight

Up 7lbs but you'd think that wouldn't have stopped him last time

Main market rival just appeared not to quite get home when tried over this trip last time although he finished a close up 2nd

  15. Unusual runner at Plumpton this afternoon in the 2.00pm

Ar Mad is a grade one and grade two winning novice chaser running in a handicap novice chase as his Arkle prep run.......which can't have happened very often !

Only two rivals have turned up and both are out of the weights

The point of interest is that to date Ar Mad has shown himself a much better runner on RH tracks.....they want to see how he now handles a LH track (and a sharp one at that! ) before deciding whether to go to Cheltenham

Should be interesting to watch because we often talk about horse being better going LH or RH but it's generally not so straightforward.......but with this fellow we know he's good, he should have the race to himself, he's probably going to front run so let's see how he takes the bends

  16. Plumpton 2.00 - Aramadyh - ew at 50/1 bog PP

    Mares novice hurdle

Looks a very poor race with an odds on favourite who has shown inconsistent form and is giving a stone and more to all the other runners.

My selection is an outsider but has shown glimpses of form such as a win and place on the flat......was rated 70

Ran in her first hurdle here a couple of weeks ago after 18 months off the track and was running 4th until three out when she faded and was pulled up. I'm banking on her coming on a bit from that run and this being a much easier race.

  17. Something to look out for.......

I put up my EW Nap of the Day last night. It was Bound Hill in the 2.10 at Exeter........best price 50/1

Now it's 100/1 with Bet365 and Betvictor and 66/1 with all the others

I'll be interested to see how the market moves nearer the race........the assumption is that all the prices will be slashed as bookies hedge their EW liabilities

I'd be surprised if it doesn't come in to at least 33/1

At the moment there are 3 horses best priced 5/4, 11/8 and 6/1

The 4th favourite is currently best priced 33/1

All the other 100/1 and above

    Let's see what happens !

(By the way I am incredibly pee'd off today........cricket, big footy matches, rugby, Sunday Supplement, ATR Sunday Forum, afternoon racing.........and my bloody Virgin TV Service is down........:@)

aah........it's just come back..........in time for the Sunday Forum........
