  1. 3.25 Chelm - J'Aspire - win at 10/3 bog betvictor

    10F maiden

The current favourite, Chorlton House, has had 11 goes and is still a maiden. Not beaten far in last two runs but they were poor handicaps and he's probably only a 50s horse. So probably worth taking on

My horse comes from a stable in the winners and is having lots chucked at her.....first time cheekpieces, tonguestrap, 5lb claimer, fillies allowance......she's had a couple of runs back from a break and improved a bit from first to second.

    Main danger cold be Tseo

  2. Lud 1.30 - Bandon Roc - EW at 16/1 bog wm hill

    Novice hurdle 2 miles

Another lop-sided market with a well odds on favourite, a second favourite a bit by default and the rest well in double figure prices

My selection could be 'best of the rest' having run in a decent looking maiden race first time out which featured runners from most of the big yards. He was beaten 36L fading late on but the Post commented that he should come on for the run

You'd like to think that a place was there for the taking .........and who knows what might happen to the favourite in a field full of novice jumpers

  3. Kemp 2.30 - O'Connor's Girl - win at 5/4 bog PP

    12F maiden

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm in my worst run since starting to do this competition 7 or 8 years ago.......but I'll keep plugging on

    :D

This is a small race with 4 runners........of the 3 that have run my selection looks the standout having shaped as though middle distances are what she needs. Finished 2nd to a well backed Gosden horse last time, staying on at the finish over 2 furlongs shorter. Comes from the Prescott yard, has Luke Morris up and gets the fillies allowance against 3 colts

The danger is probably the newcomer who cost quite a lot - he's from the Simcock yard which might be a worry but he only went into the yard a few days ago so doubt Simcock has got to work on him yet..........probably running him for a look at what he's got

  4. Sou 2.40 - Captain Lars - win at 6/1 bog PP

    Class 3 mile handicap

My selection has won a seller and a claimer on his last 2 outings, including over CD

On his return to handicaps he's been put up 7lbs for those two wins but is still reasonably handicapped on some of his previous handicap form (was a multiple winner in South Africa)

He fair ran some similarly rated horses silly over CD last time out though he was getting weight from him and should have won.........the style of his victory by 7L indicated he was on his way back after some disappointing efforts when arriving in the UK a few months ago.

That win was in a Claimer and 26 claims were entered for him so the training fraternity clearly thought he was worth having !

  5. Kemp 12.50 - Comeonginger - win at 3/1 bog boyles

Handicap chase around 18F on soft

My selection has won on his last 2 visits here, in both cases making all and jumping boldly. Both those wins were over 20F but the slightly shorter trip is no problem in soft ground

There are a couple of other front runners in the field but they don't appear to be in good form and I think they'll struggle if they take my fellow on..........these fences are stiff and I can see fallers if they go faster than they're comfortable with to keep up with my choice.

The main danger is probably Balgarry who looks OK handicapped.......my worry about him is the jumping - one fall and one Unseat in his last 5 runs and these fences might catch him out

  6. I usually check the list of Past Winners for the big races in the Post just to see if anything jumps out at me..........and I notice that the last 10 winners were all young horses aged 8 or under

I thought this was interesting because there are only 4 such horses in the field !

Upswing, Red Devil Lads, Chase The Spud and Cogry

Let's see if the trend continues........

  7. Donc 1.50 - Busy Baro - ew at 66/1 bog wm hill

    Novice hurdle

Looking for an EW shot and there's a few big priced ones in this race with only 4 runners currently under 66/1

My selection might be the best of the long shots having finished 5th at Towcester before Christmas, leading for much of the way before fading late on up the hill. This flat track might suit better if they decide to run prominently again and might come on for what was his first run for 8 months

He also jumped left at Towcester so might be better going left handed today

Probably needs a couple of the front 4 to underperform to get placed but that's not impossible.

  8. 1.35 Towc - Dardanella - EW at 50/1 bet365

    Handicap hurdle over 2 miles

Should be a right slog in the heavy ground on this very stiff tracks. I think a lot of these might be crying 'enough' in the home straight

My horse has won here before, He was well beaten last time out at Lingfield but that might be slightly deceptive as the progressive winner that day was 20-odd clear of everything else. That run was on Heavy and my horse appeared to cope

He also has bottom weight today and overall has a decent record with 10 first 3 finishes from 19 runs

He's the outsider of the field but I don't think he'll finish last !

  9. 1.40 Hunt - Alizee Javiles - win at 5/2 bog Ladbrokes

    novice hurdle

Only 3 of these look to have much chance

Henderson's runner carries a penalty for winning what looks a poor race at Ffos Las and the worst of the 3 on bumper form

The current favourite is Grand Turina who won a bumper at Wetherby fairly easily and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th have all won since. That looks decent form but she hasn't run for nearly a year, hasn't encountered soft ground or a RH track. Might be the most promising of these but could be worth taking on today

My selection has some CD form having finished 3rd in a Listed bumper here and before that had won at Ludlow. Half sister to Grand national hero Mon Mome so should be suited by the step up in trip/

  10. 2.40 Sou - Swift Cedar - win at 2/1 bog wm hill

    11F handicap

The top two in the weights here both look as though they need longer trips and difficult to see them being suited by dropping down to 11F in a small field race without much in the way of pace on the front end

When I used to follow the AW a lot more closely than I do now I had a theory that this 11F trip at Southwell was perfect for milers and you could often find a good bet backing milers because 'the market', i.e. other punters, would be put off by thinking they wouldn't get the trip. So Ciao Cielo would be of interest if it wasn't for the two shocking runs since his summer break. If I knew he was in tip top shape I'd be tempted by him

That leaves two old rivals who fought out a finish here a couple of weeks ago. My selection won that day and I'm taking him to win again at the revised weights. He's won a couple this winter and looks to be in good form. Ralphy Lad didn't get the run of the race when beaten by my selection having been involved in a pace duel then picked off. But generally he looks to be a bit in the handicappers grip at the moment and I can see my selection picking him off again even if the race is run more to suit him

  11. Wolv 5.10 - Lady Lydia - win at 13/2 bog wm hill

    Fillies handicap, class 5, 6F

My selection is the top-weight here and drops down from a run in class 4 last time. Won a fillies handicap at Kempton the time before and this mark shouldn't be beyond her on the basis of that run. Also drops in trip having been running over 7/8 furlongs for some time. That could be a problem but there are a couple of out and out front runners here and this race should be run at a good clip.

My horse ought to be running on at the finish as others might be tiring

  12. 1.30 Chel - Graceful Lady - EW at 22/1 bog Coral

    10F maiden race

My selection is having her second outing after finishing midfield in a Doncaster maiden first time up.

The Post reported that there were some potentially smart fillies in what is traditionally a hot maiden and my horse didn't run too badly, leading for much of the race before fading late on

This extra 2F should help and this must be an easier race

3.00 Sandown:  Veterans Handicap Chase Final

Cracking contest for the first ever running of the Veterans Series Final. 16 runners have turned up and it looks extremely competitive. Reaping The Reward looks like being the favourite and Richard Johnson has a rare ride for Lucinda Russell. He was second last time out on his comeback and should go well. My two against the field however are Soll and Relax. Soll is from the Pipe yard and has been running well in big handicaps, he will love the ground and stays all day. Relax was well beaten on his reappearance but qualified for this final which was the main aim. A C/D winner and looks like a plan from the Venetia Williams yard.

    Selection: Soll 8/1 Bet365

well done BH.......always nice to land the big race winner on a Saturday !

  14. Cheers BH

I started to subscribe when they made it Members Only to keep your ratings and notes on the database.........but I've given up doing ratings and notes now so I suppose it's just inertia that keeps me stumping up every month

I still think the Post has the best Racing Results with the race analysis write up and RPR and Topspeed ratings for all runners

  15. .........and a Morning Line style show on ITV4 on Saturdays seems to be on the cards

I think ITV4 is widely available.......it's on Sky, Virgin and Freeview so I don't think there's many people that don't have access to it

There's some discussion about possible clashes with things like the French Open tennis and Tour de France which ITV4 cover....I expect that if there are 'big days' racing which clash, like Royal Ascot with the Tour, they'll just have Ascot on ITV1 and the Tour on ITV4

If it's not big days they just won't show racing on those days

  16. Tom Scu gets a 7 day ban for his ride in the Veterans Chase - whip use

This seems to be the pattern now........the big race finishes, everyone says what a great race, then the winning jockeys get done for whip abuse

    Not good for the game..........

On a (much) lighter note.......did anyone see the lovely Lizzie Kelly on The Morning Line. I'm well smitten with her !

If only I was 40 years younger and 40 times posher...........:loon

  17. 1.10 Plump - L'ami Serge - win at 1/5 bog wm hill

    1.20 Naas - Shaneshill - win at 4/8 bog bet365

1.50 Naas - Bellshill - win at 4/9 bog boyles

    res

2.30 Chel - Power game - win at 11/10 bog wm hill

1.30 Chel - Cape of Glory - win at 3/1 bog wm hill

    good luck everyone !

I'm being a bit of a wimp going for short priced favourites but I'm getting desperate for anything to be first past the post......

    I'll take well odds-on at the moment.........anything !
