Asc 2.25 - Thistlecrack - win at 9/4 bog bet365
Long walk Hurdle, grade 1, around 3 miles
Fascinating race with a couple of classy up and comers taking on the reigning champ who has won this race for the last 3 years
At 10 years old I think Reve de Sivola might just be there for the taking now although he did run ok on his seasonal debut in France and usually comes on a lot for a run
Saphir du Rheu is another grade one staying hurdler who has been alternating between sticks and fences and ran in the Hennessy last time. I can't rally find anything wrong with him to be honest .........only that I'm not keen on chasers reverting to hurdling. I think they can be inclined to overjump, although obviously some manage it more successfully than others and this horse is perhaps one who can do it.........he did win a grade 2 hurdle after a few runs over fences last year
My selection is possible the least exposed of the main runners, having only come to the fore at the end of last season, winning and placing 2nd in grade one races. Ran a terrific race on seasonal debut when winning a grade 2 at Newbury despite his trainer saying he would come on a bundle for the run
He's the new kid on the block and might have more to come than the other two

Asc 2.30 - Le mercurey - win at 9/4 bog wm hill
Novice chase, grade 2, over 21F
Going with the Nicholls runner here even tho' the yard seem unusually in and out this season (last 2 runners PU)
This horse did win on seasonal debut which bodes well as many of the yards runners have been needing a run. Actos on soft, has run well here over hurdles, looks like a staying chaser in the making and has had the usual Nicholls wind op since last season
He won a novice chase at Plumpton and although that's not generally reckoned to be amongst the big tracks they do have that bonus scheme for horses that win novice chases and go on to win at the Festival.........so the novice chases do tend to attract better horses than the usual Plumpton runners

Oh........I missed yesterday's results !
Nice one Jimmy !........

Ex 2.50 - Tolkeins Tango - win at 5/2 bog bet365
Handicap chase
My selection finished 2nd on seasonal debut (demoted to 3rd) at Chepstow and now returns to a track where he has won twice
Acts on heavy ground and is 3lbs above last winning mark (a race he won by 19L). Should have a good chance
The current favourite is Bilbrooke Blaze from the Hobbs yard with Dickie Johnson up. He's only ran once over fences and fell at the first and is still a maiden having never won as a hurdler. Has plenty to prove but is bound to be backed with this yard/jockey

Newb 3.00 - Max the Minister - EW at 66/1 bog wm hill
novice hurdle
going for a big outsider here who ran in what at the time appeared to be a hot novice race at Ascot.......form subsequently let down a bit with the winner being turned over at 8/1 ON next time
however my selection was well there until fading at the finish and might just have still needed the run as he was well tailed off in his previous outing on seasonal debut
Might just be that he's a non stayer but worth a punt at big odds

12.45 Catt - Hugh's Secret - ew at 40/1 bog PP
Juvenile hurdle
Don't really fancy any of the market leaders here and the obvious EW shots don't look up to much so I'm plumping for an unknown quantity making his racecourse debut
Nicely bred by Yeats out of a half sister to top chaser Azertyuoup
I'll readily admit it's a bit of a pinsticker but I'm struggling to find anything today
-
Some EW shots
Plu 12.10 - Cougar Kid - 18/1 wm hill (3 places, fifth odds)
Plu 1.20 - Fin D'Espere - 16/1 wm hill (3 places, fifth odds)
ffos 1.00 - Chief brody - 11/1 bet365 (3 places, fifth odds)
-
Ffos 2.10- The Drinkmeister - win at 3/1 bog wm hill
Staying handicap chase, heavy ground
There's a few here that could be well handicapped on old form but there's a hell of a lot of non completions in the form figures
My horse is the youngest and least exposed over fences. His two runs on Heavy ground have provided a win (here) and a 2L defeat by As De Mee who's now rated 140.
On his seasonal and chase debut last time out he finished 5th in a decent race at Newbury, prominent until weakening and plugging on onepaced at the finish. Hopefully he'll come on a bit for the run and this looks easier. After his novice hurdle win connections said he will be a nice staying chaser in the mud
Current favourite is Royal Palladium.......he's OK on 'soft' but is unproven on 'heavy' and there's a suspicion he might be better right-handed
Cloudy Copper's win under rules have also come on right handed tracks. Been a bit disappointing over fences but he appears to act on 'heavy' and is coming down in the weight
-
well done Richard.................
brilliant stuff.................
I've still got no idea what your ratings mean..............like above you have six horses, Village Vic to Art Mauresque, apparently separated by 0.09 of 'something'
Oh well, whatever it is it seems to work....................

Carl 12.05 - Berkshire Downs - EW at 16/1 bog PP
Novice hurdle - 10 runners, heavy ground
There's been a distinct pattern to my selections this month...............all my 'win' bets have lost and with one or two exceptions all my EW bets have been placed at decent odds
Bit tricky finding an EW shot today with all the small fields but the first at Carlisle looks the best opportunity with really testing conditions maybe lending to an upset
My selection ran her best race to date here in a bumper and apparently failed to stay an extra half mile at Ayr last time. Drops back to the minimum here and along with the other mares in the race is getting s stone from the penalised odds on favourite
The first two in the market today look OK, the favourite acts on heavy and comes from France, but imports sometimes need a race or two to settle in so could underperform
-
Ling 1.10 - Kings Cross - win at 5/2 bog bet365
20F handicap chase on heavy ground
My selection is the youngest of these and won a higher grade handicap over CD on heavy ground last time out. Conditions are no problem. Described as a lovely big horse he's taken a couple of runs to get going since coming from France but now he's found his stride there could be more to come
Current favourite is Alder Mairi who won by a long way last time at Wincanton despite some tack problems. Her last 3 wins have been at Wincanon and maybe she's better there than anywhere else ?
Winston Churchill looks OK as well.......he won last time out on seasonal debut as he did last year. Acts on the ground. My main concern compared to my selection is that he has no course experience and this can be a tricky track
-
Good luck everyone !

Good luck Chris !............

Bang 2.05 - Kilronan castle - ew at 20/1 bog bet365
Maiden hurdle
Typical novice hurdle with an odds on favourite carrying a penalty and pretty big prices about everything else
The odds on Fav here looks pretty good but they don't always win !
My selection comes the McCain yard and had had a run this season. The yard have looked out of nick but had 3 winners last week
Dropping in trip should help as he appeared not to get home over a few furlongs further last time.
Apart from the favourite this race doesn't look very deep so my selecion so my selection should have a chance on getting involved
-
Warw 2.00 - Minella Charmer - ew at 14/1 bog bet365
Maiden hurdle over 21F
Mainly staying types here from the Irish points scene
As often happens with these kind of races there's generally only a couple that are fancied in the betting and as a result they tend to be too short. The short priced favourite might be good but he's making his hurdles and seasonal debut. The second favourite comes from the Henderson yard and finished 2nd in a novice hurdle last time but the winner has been beaten since and the form might not be great.
My runner comes from the King yard and finished midfield on his hurdles debut. He was outpaced over the minimum trip on good ground at a sharp track.........today's conditions should suit him better and could well be in the shake up if he comes on for that run
grrrr..........odds shortened as I typed.......how annoying is that !

It's not very fair to moan about something that is both very useful and free, but I'll give it a go. It's that "SkyBet betslip" that has appeared in the bottom right of the screen.
Do you mean on the Sporting Life website ?
I didn't like it.......so I turned my adblocker on for that site and that stopped it appearing
Unfortunately it also stops latest odds on the racecard from loading which is why I'd turned the adblocker off in the first place but I tend use the Post for odds
I don't like these sites that have lots of things that are stuck on the page and move up and down as you navigate.........like those little tab things that stick out at the side with Facebook and Twitter links
Ghastly

Leic 1.05 - Petite power - ew at 20/1 bog bet365
Novice hurdle
Taking a bit of a chance with an EW selection in a race with only 2 places to pay out
The current favourite looks pretty good after winning by a long distance last time but of course now carries a penalty, I wouldn't be worried about taking on the other 2 fancied ones.
And with the ground showing as 'heavy' this two and a half mile trip on a fairly testing track could catch a few out and make previous form unreliable for today
My selection has the looks of a staying chaser so perhaps no surprise that he was beaten around 12 lengths in each of his two minimum trip, good ground, bumpers
This test should be much more to his liking assuming he's fit enough after a summer break

Hexham tomorrow is off........
Shame......I like Hexham
-
Uttox 1.20 - Verano - win at 5/2 bog bet365
Handicap hurdle
My selection has a course win to his name, comes from a yard in form, finished 2nd last time, handles soft going. He also gets a bit further if it becomes a test of stamina in the ground
Doesn't look badly handicapped being 7lbs above last win which was by over 4 lengths and is a young horse who might be improving merely by staying alive and getting older
-
The first race at Muss looks a bit tempting for an EW punt on a big priced one - novice hurdle
Just 5 runners and a big odds on Fave who's making a hurdles debut
Even if that one wins there's still a place up for grabs at 1/4 odds
Not convinced by the McCain 2nd fav. His position seems to be solely because he's from a big yard
How's about Captain Redbeard at 20/1 bog bet365
Plenty of stamina, should be staying on..........finished 3rd at Wetherby last time having improved a lot from hurdles debut. Hopefully can run into 2nd and take advantage if the odds on fave doesn't take to hurdling (to be fair he has won PtPs so should be OK jumping)
-
Chelm 2.10 - Krystallite - ew at 20/1 bog bet365
2yo maiden
Like the look of one of the outsiders here
She's got a mixed record alright having been placed in 3 of her 5 runs but was thrashed in her other 2 runs. Can't really discern any pattern in the trips or going to account for that so have to accept that she's just inconsistent
She had a break from June then returned a few weeks ago to finish 3rd in a hot looking class 2 nursery at Wolves. That form looks pretty good if you look at the horses that finished around her.......the first and second ran first and second in another class 2 race a couple of days ago and the horse that finished 4th had won her previous 3 outings
could be competitive back in class 4 maiden company if on a going day

Non runner
I'll go with .....
Hunt 12.50 - Bon Chic - win at 5/4 bog bet365
Nvice chase
Only 4 runners here with joint market leaders
My selection has been in decent nick, went down to a good one on chase debut and now drops back to Mares company. Seems to jump OK
Market rival Kalane fell over hurdles last time.........she might be classier than my selection but you'd worry about the fences
-
Nice one BH !
Mind, not sure I wanted to be reminded of Dom Joli easing past Many Clouds in the last few yards.......

Ling 1.00 - Flighty Filia - win at Evs bog wm hill
Low grade staying handicap
This doesn't looking very competitive with the field having only ever won 1 race between them. My selection appeared to put in an improved performance when stepped up to 2 miles for the first time. She was just touched off by a horse who won again next time out with a fair distance back to the rest of the field.
The one with the previous win scored at Southwell but hadn't shown much on polytrack before that
The rest just look poor
