Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:50 Haydock: Whisky Yankee 1pt win 14/1 William Hill Whisky Yankee looks an improving sort and lines up here on a hat trick. Those wins have come at Ffos Las where he won nicely. Its quite likely that the step up in trip will suit and off just ten stone nine here with Harry Derham taking off another five pounds he looks likley to go well. 2:05 Ascot: Marias Choice 1pt win 8/1 Paddy Power The form of Sir Michael Stoute's yard draws the eye to Maria's Choice. He is lightly raced yet has already put up some fair performances. He could just be the type that the master trainer can develop as this four year old gelding matures. The going looks about right too with Maria's Choice's best performance coming on this type of surface at Newmarket. Lots of potential and likely to be ready to go first time out. 3:30 Haydock: Specialagent Alfie 1pt win 16/1 Betfred & Local Hero 1pt win 20/1 Bet Victor Specialagent Alfie has been running well of late and the form of those two races stands up quite well. He is still lightly raced and there could just be a little more to come. The decent ground looks to be a plus too and Specialagent Alfie looks to have a better chance than his odds suggest. Local Hero ran a fine race last time out in the Scottish Champion Hurdle. He is off a mark that is workable having won off higher last season at Market Rasen in a Listed handicap so he is capable of winning in decent company. This ground is in Local Hero's favour and he is another that looks a touch overpriced. 3:50 Ascot: Khubala 2pts win 20/1 Bet365 & Loving Spirit 1pt win 20/1 Paddy Power A huge field yet Khubala looks very interesting indeed. He's had eight turf starts and was considered good enough to go for a Group 3 last back end. That was probably aiming a little high although the ground would surely not have suited. By Acclamation the good to firm is likely to be ideal and Khubala ran well first time up which should put him spot on. Course form can count for a lot here as can experience of big field handicaps. So Loving Spirit's run here in October should stand him in goos stead. Loving Spirit ran well first time out and this should have him primed for this too.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:15 Ascot: Lizzie Tudor 1pt win Betfair SP What on earth is she doing in this race. Worth taking a chance that in form trainer Andrew Balding thinks/knows she is a whole lot better than the handicapper's assessment. She might just be.....

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:10 Worcester: Rajnagan 1pt win 6/1 Paddy Power Rajnagan had a prep run for this over hurdles and went pretty well. Rajnagan is a course and distance winner and is only a few pounds higher than that success. Rajnagan is relatively lightly raced so there may be scope for a little more improvement.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:40 Newbury: Modern Tutor 1pt win 7/1 Bet365 Modern Tutor is a pound out of the handicap but a mark of 85 could be very fair. He has been off since the middle of last season but with Sir Michael Stoute in fine form that should not be an issue and Modern Tutor could well be on his way to better things. 2.55 Newmarket: Hasopop 1pt win 12/1 William Hill & Bluegrass Blues 1pt win 16/1 Paddy Power Hasopop has top weight here however he ran well in a Listed race last time and put up creditable performances in Group races as a two year old. Marco Botti is in decent form and Hasopop may just be able to let his class pull him through here. Bluegrass Blues ran poorly here earlier in the season but there may have been something amiss then. Chances are there is more to come from this lightly raced sort.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:15 Newbury: Kitten On The Run 1pt win 12/1 Stan James Kitten On The Run looks a good recruit for Luca Cumani. He is unbeaten so far and is very hard to assess. Already rated in three figures, his trainer was mulling over a run in a Group race according to a recent interview. This trip should be fine and hopefully Kitten On The Run will be ready too. 3:50 Newbury: Beauty Parlour 1pt win 15/2 Stan James This has been quite a good race for fillies and Beauty Parlour has some top level form having one the French 1000 Guineas. She goes well fresh and a reproduction of her early season form last year will see her go close today. Henry Cecil has his yard going well which all adds to Beauty Parlour's case.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2.20 York: Ile De Re 1pt win 13/2 Bet Victor Ile De Re may not be quite as ground dependent as it appears from his recent runs. He is a top notch handicapper and he does look a little overpriced here. He is certain to stay and could well be in better shape after his first run. 2:40 Haydock: Flasheart 1pt win 8/1 Betfred (40p R4) Flasheart looks of interest here with his first try at handicapping. He won well at Chepstow on good to firm so the surface won't be a problem and there is good reason to think that he will improve for the trip. Plenty of scope for improvement after just three runs. 2:55 York: York Glory 1pt win 10/1 Paddy Power It usually pays to side with a sprinter in form and York Glory has course form too which all adds to his case. He ran and won well at Pontefract and was in contention for a long way last time here. This slighty better ground and a drop back to five gives York Glory a decent chance in an open race. 3:15 Haydock: Newstead Abbey 1pt win 11/2 Stan James (25p R4) Newstead Abbey was a very impressive winner at Musselburgh and while he has been put up ten pounds there could be more to come and he looks set to govery close here. David Barron is in fine form and it looks as though this valuable prize has been the target after Newstead Abbey's last run. 3:35 Goodwood: Tamayuz Star 1pt win 12/1 Bet365 Course form here is usually worth a few extra pounds and Tamayuz Star ran his best race in Listed company. This is his first run in a handicap and while not let in lightly there may be a chance of more to come.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:55 The Curragh: What Style 1pt win 14/1 Ladbrokes & Hanky Panky 1pt win 20/1 William Hill (10p R4 both) What Style is very lightly raced and could come on significantly for her first run. She was good enough to beat Snow Queen first time up and its certain that master trainer John Oxx will have brought her along nicely for this. Hanky Panky gives the impression of a filly coming to a peak at the right time. Aidan O'Brien has Ryan Moore booked and its likely that the much sounder surface will see Hanky Panky in a far better light.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 4:00 Epsom: Roz 1pt e/w 50/1 Bet365 (1/4 123) Roz comes in to the race the third highest rated thanks to some decent efforts as a two year old. She won a Listed race at Sandown and was then second in the Fillies Mile in September at Newmarket. Roz ran poorly in the 2000 Guineas however so there may be doubt whether she has trained on, yet she ran last first time on her debut so there is a decent chance Roz can improve considerably. Not surprisingly Jim Crowley prefers Secret Gesture however big race jockey Johnny Murtagh is a fine substitute. Roz looks likley to improve for this distance and could well outrun her price.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:15 Epsom: Doctor Parkes 1pt win 25/1 Bet365 Doctor Parkes has been slipping down the handicap but has hinted that there may still be a big run in the locker. The ground is a slight concern however he's had only a few runs for Stuart Williams and he is likely to have Doctor Parkes spot on for this. 4:00 Epsom: Festive Cheer 1pt win 179/1 Betfair & Galileo Rock 1pt e/w 66/1 William Hill (1/4 123) Have gone for a couple of lightly raced types that look overpriced. Festive Cheer got off the mark at Dundalk and for an all weather maiden that race has worked out pretty well. Festive Cheer then stayed on strongly once the penny dropped in France last time behind Tableaux. This trip should be perfect and he being only his fourth run there could be a fair bit more to come. Galileo Rock has some form that ties in with Battle of Marengo. Galileo Rock almost caught Sugar Boy at Sandown and Sugar Boy was not far behind Battle of Marengo previously. Galileo Rock looks sure to improve over this trip and will surely be staying on at the finish when others have had enough.
