Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:50 Newmarket: Lady In Blue 1pt win 12/1 Coral Drifting out now, however Lady In Blue looks a potential improver here. After just three runs she lines up in a handicap for the first time on 72 with capable claimer Nathan Alison taking off a handy five pounds. The step up to seven also looks likely to benefit Lady In Blue and William Haggas has his yard in fine nick. 2:20 Newmarket: Medici Time 1pt win 8/1 William Hill This is very much a horses for courses selection. Medici Time has won twice here and this grey's race last year off a three pound higher mark. Medici Time looked to be coming back to form at Redcar and another outing at York could just have put him spot on for a repeat for what is something of a novelty race, yet has decent prize for the grade. 3:30 Ripon: El Viento 2pts win 14/1 Betfred El Viento has some cracking course form and that is a factor which has heavily influenced the outcome of this race recently. He is also drawn close to a rail and again in these big sprints its often a big plus. El Viento is a little higher than his last win here, however he has been in solid form of late and looks very likely to go close.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:55 York: Angels Will Fall 1pt win 22/1 Coral It might just be worth chancing Angels Will Fall dropping in to handicap company here. She has been highly tried racing in Group One company most recently in the Kings Stand and she did have an entry in the Nunthorpe. It looks as though connections have set their sights a little lower and if she can run up to her best Angels Will Fall could go close. 2:30 York: Il Paperazzi 2pts win 8/1 Paddy Power (another point added) Il Paparazzi looks to have a better chance than his price suggests. Maybe its because of his relatively new trainer Daniel Kubler. There was nothing wrong with Il Paparazzi's course and distance win and a reproduction of that will see him go very close. 3:05 York: Willie The Whipper 1pt win 12/1 Stan James With the St Leger the long term aim this step up in distance will hopefully suit Willie The Whipper. He ran on late in France in the Prix Du Jockey Club, and that form looks pretty decent. Ann Duffield rates her charge highly and better ground and the long Knavesmire straight may suit.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:55 York: Sleeper King 1pt win 8/1 Miracle of Medinah 1pt win 20/1 both Stan James A wide open race however Sleeper King looks to be the pick of Kevin Ryan's runners and he has an excellent record in this race. He should be as effective over this trip and is one of the highest rated. Miracle of Medinah is a little more experienced and he could put that to good use here. He did appear to be below form last time however some of his previous efforts would see him go close here at a big price. 2:30 York: Merletta 1pt win 25/1 Stan James It may be just worth chancing Merletta at this price. She is presumably well thought of to be running here and she has an entry in the Cheveley Park Stakes although that may not be as significant considering her ownership. This filly leaves the impression she could be a lot better than she has shown so far.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:05 York: Pacific Heights 1pt win 25/1 Stan James Although Pacific Heights has a high draw here he is an improving sort and may just be able to overcome it. Creeps in at the bottom of the handicap and this extra furlong looks all to the good. Stable in decent form.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 York: Moviesta 2pts win 11/2 Bet365 It often pays to stick with a sprinter in form and Moviesta won well at Goodwood when not having a clear run. He is also drawn high here and that has been an advantage at the meeting so far. Looks a sprinter on the up.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:40 York: Van Percy 1pt win 14/1 Stan James (R4 now) Van Percy looks as though he will handle the ground and Oisin Murphy has an excellent record when riding for Andrew Balding. Hopefully will stay this extra distance and if he can, will surely go very close. 2:55 Goodwood: Monsieur Chevalier 1pt win 33/1 Boylesports Monsieur Chevalier goes well here and put up a fine effort in the Lennox Stakes when not getting a clear run. He has a difficult draw but if he gets a little luck in running he should out run his price and might surprise 3:50 York: Bishop Ronko 2pts win 20/1 Ladbrokes (price taken 7/8/13 #1846 personal thread & 1pt No Hassle - non runner) Bishop Ronko is very lightly raced and his inexperience may count against him. However, he looks to have a fair bit of scope for improvement and he could be on the up. Some of his early form now looks good and he should handle the ground ok and the extra distance will hopefully suit too.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:05 Sandown: Ask The Guru 1pt win 33/1 William Hill It may just be worth chancing Ask The Guru here. He has an excellent draw, (usually well away), he has the first time visor and he can go well fresh. The trouble is, when last seen he ran very poorly. However if Ask The Guru is over what has presumably been wrong with him, he could pull off a shock here. 2:40 Sandown: Music Theory 2pts win 4/1 Boylesports Kingman was a classy winner at Newmarket and will be hard to beat. However, there may just have been an over reaction to that. And Music Theory with a little more experience may be at a similar level and he does look overpriced here in relation. Charlie Appleby in great form too. 2:55 Chester: Ayaar 1pt win 11/1 Ladbrokes Ayaar may just have been running a little better than the bare form suggests. He ran pretty well here last time and the slightly better ground and a pull in the weights with some of those that re-oppose could see Ayaar go close. 3:30 Chester: Savanna La Mar 1pt win 11/1 Betfred Savanna La Mar has been mainly running on the Continent of late and in Listed and Group events. She has nevertheless been running with credit and this slight ease in grade may see this former course winner take a hand in the finish.
