Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:50 Ayr: Lover Man 2pts win 33/1 Coral & Gabriel's Lad 1pt win 14/1 888sport Lover Man looks quite interesting here for Keith Dalgleish. He ahd some secent form in France and has the look of a horse that has been targeted at this race. Ground should not be a problem and looks worth chancing. Gabriel's Lad has been running over seven, however that extra stamina can often be a help in some of these big six furlong handicaps. That aside he also has some creditable form over six and looks ok on the ground. 2:20 Newbury: Shamshon 1pt win 5/2 William Hill Shamshon looks very much a colt on the up. The win at Deauville was an impressive effort and assuming he handles the ground should take this on the way to even better things. 2:40 Ayr: An Saighdiur 1pt win 16/1 & Polski Max 2pts win 40/1 both Ladbrokes An Saighdiur looks as though he has been primed for a big run after last years place finish. The going should be fine and the draw looks encouraging. Dangers abound however An Saighdiur brings some of the strongest credentials to the race. Polski Max looks well overpriced here, particularly with the soft going. Only three he may be up against it, but plenty of scope and could run well at a massive price with a good claimer taking off five.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:50 Newmarket: Tha'ir 2pts win 40/1 Betfred, Gabrial The Great 1pt win 20/1 Betfair & Ascription 1pt win 14/1 Totesport Tha'ir is hopefully a case of horses for courses. He has run very well here in the past and his last win was only off a three pound lower mark. The ground looks about right and being effective over ten furlongs is usually a plus in this race. Gabrial The Great appears to need a fast pace and then come through. This cavalrey charge could just suit him and with Luca Cumani in good form Gabrial The Great may go better thab in his last couple of outings. The ground is a little concern for Ascription however he should handle it, and if he does he looks well handicapped and the step up in trip should help. Looks sure to go close. Also: Quite like Code of Honor - some decent form especially at 10F - going is ok and should run well And Educate - touch high in the wights but if things drop his way could be a big player (I suspect Ascription won't run and as got to post this now - will exclude from exactas - that will ensure he runs and finishes in the 1 2) Thair / Gabrial The Great / Code of Honor / Educate 12 x 1/2 pt exactas = 6pts staked 10 pts staked on race

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Overdue a post up of results for year - will do that next.... 3:15 Longchamp: Ruler of the World / Leading Light / Intello 6 x 1/2 pt exactas = 3pts staked Selections on the basis of a low draw, age, winning Group form, and ability to handle going and trainers...

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Figures for the year 1st January to the 30th September 2013 Points: Staked 363 Returned 290.25 Loss 72.75 ROI -20.04% Bets: Struck 330 Profitable 22 Strike rate 6.67% While a decent exacta on the Cambridgeshire reduced losses, still a way to go to get back even. However a win brings encouragement and will keep going with exactas.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:50 Newmarket: Earth Amber 1pt win 25/1 Ladbrokes Smoky Hill 2pts win 11/1 Boylesports & Sign Manual 1pt e/w 80/1 Bet Victor (1/4 12345) Earth Amber has been off a long while and has presumably been difficult to train or had her problems. However Nicky Henderson who knows what it takes to win this race has booked Richard Hughes so presumably he must feel she is ready to do her self justice. Lightly raced with some decent French form Eart Amber could go well with plenty of scope for improvement. Smoky Hill is another interesting runner as anything his trainer brings over is worth close inspection. Smoky Hills form in France looks solid but is hard to equate to tough handicaps. But as his chance on paper looks strong he looks well worthy of support. Sign Manual looks overpriced even allowing for the fact he is out of the handicap. If he could recapture some of his earlier season form against Lieutenant Miller then he could well run in to one of the places. Would think the trip is likely to suit. Adding in Domination for exactas. He stays well, he likes likes this course he won the trial last year and having been kept to mainly hurdles since you wonder if this has been the plan for a year. Exactas: Earth Amber / Smoky Hill / Sign Manual / Domination = 12 x 0.5 = 6pts staked 11pts staked on the race

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:45 Ascot: Eye of the Storm 1pt win 7/1 Bet365 Times Up 1/2 pt win 16/1 Coral & Aiken 1/2 pt win 20/1 Bet365 Eye of the Storm looks to be a horse on the up and while he needs to improve there is every chance he can. Gets a handy weight for age allowance and the trip and going will suit Times Up drops back in trip here from France and he could go well at a decent price with going likley to in his favour. A chance is taken with Aiken, if he could recapture last seasons form from this race he could surprise. 2:20 Ascot: Belmont Mast 2pts win 18/1 Bet Victor, Cape of Approval 1/2pt win 16/1 Stan James & Viztoria 1/2pt win 7/1 also Stan James Balmont Mast is one of the freshest horses in the race and comes in here on the back of a nice win last time. Looks very interesting at the price with Johnny Murtagh up. If takes to the going and there is a good chance he will, then could shake them up. Cape of Approval holds a recent decision over Maarek and if repeating that form will go close. Biggest prices have gone but still worth a small interest at these odds. Viztotia could go well dropped back to six here. Still scope for a little more improvement under these conditions and often a high draw can be handy. 2:55 Ascot: Belle De Crecy 1pt win 14/1 Stan James & Waila 1pt win 7/1 Bet365 Belle De Crecy looks to be in fine form with a convincing win over Hot Snap at the Curragh last time. A reproduction of that effort will surely see her go close here. Waila has been off a long while but her performances when she has run could see her step up to take a hand here. The going could also bring about improvement. The jockey and trainer combination give weight to her chances too.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:55 Aintree: Karinga Dancer 1pt win 4/1 Stan James + Special Catch 1/2 pt win 5/1 Bet365 + Star of Aragon 1/2 pt win 12/1 Boylesports Karinga dancer has not stopped improving since a couple of wind operations. There may still be more to come and comes here rather than trying a Graded race. Special Catch ran well here previously and is another who may not of stopped improving. Gets ideal conditions Star of Aragon is interesting coming over from Ireland. Had a couple of prep runs and could be ready to hit the target today dropping back to a more suitable trip. 2:20 Newbury: Galiway 1pt win 9/4 Coral Very much based on the fact that master trainer Andre Fabre brings this over from France. Dangers abound, and its hard to know quite what the form adds up to. However just about worth a point at the price. 3:05 Aintree: Pure Faith 1pt win 25/1 Stan James Pure Faith continues to run ok over the larger obstacles and is off a much lighter weight than when running well here a couple of seasons ago. Perhaps not the biggest shock if he went well again on a course he clearly likes. 3:50 Doncaster: Somewhat 1pt win 17/2 Bet365 + Buonarroti 1pt win 22/1 Ladbrokes + Snow Sky 1/2 pt win 16/1 Stan James + Pinzolo 1/2pt win 5/1 Somewhat ran well in the Royal Lodge at Newmarket and his chance may have been underestimated here. Buonarroti was a wide margin maiden winner and Aidan O'Brien brings him over here. Would not be the first time a lesser fancied horse in the yard has come through to win. Snow Sky has been steadily progressive and there could be more to come especially in these soft conditions Pinzolo possibly has the best form on offer and brings in an unbeaten record in to the race. Looks the sort on breeding. Also box all 4 above in 12 x 1/2 pt exactas. 6pts staked
