Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:25 Ascot: Shadarpour 1pt win 33/1 William Hill It may just be worth chancing Shadarpour here on his handicap debut. He has been quite highly tried so far, and last time out ran in Grade 2 Adonis. Its reasonable to assumed that connections feel he is a little better than he has shown so far and with Gary Moore having a nice winner at Aintree with a horse springing in to life, there is a chance Shadarpour could repeat the dose here. 5:10 Ascot: Mister Dillon 1pt win 6/1 & Ballyrock 1pt win 12/1 both Bet365 Mister Dillon ran well in a good race at Doncaster last time out when stepped up in trip. That looks fair form. Gary Derwin has a decent record when riding for Nicky Henderson from only a few chances and with the trainer in excellent form Mister Dillon looks set to go close. If Ballyrock is back to near his best he could be a big price here. He was one of Tim Vaughan's top novices and ran Fingal Bay close at Newbury at the end of 2011. Ballyrock can go well fresh and Tim Vaughan has won with inmates returning from a lay off.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread

5:10 Ascot: Ballyrock 1pt win 12/1
Geez Steve that wasn't you putting your bet on 5 minutes out on Betfair was it?? Saw it drop from the 30's down to 7's in a few minutes and was still available at 21.0 from totesport and 17.0 elsewhere. Then dropped to below 5 on the exchange as someone was continually wiping out all available lay bets. All the while the bookies were trying to keep up. Someone obviously walked away a little sheepish post race.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Haha no that wasn't me Karijini .... And my only return was Kapga De Cerisy being a non runner .... Thought I'd have a change of tack and look ahead to the Classics and then have a break until Saturday's racing..... and thanks for your ongoing interest over this loooong lean spell, cheers mate :ok 2000 Guineas: Style Vendome 2pts win 25/1 Betfred Last year Nicolas Clement went very close with French Fifteen. This season he looks to have another fine chance in Style Vendome who has followed a similar route by winning the Prix Djebel. He was cut in price after that win, however the 25/1 still looks worth taking, even allowing for some doubt over whether Style Vendome will run here or in France.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:05 Kempton: Glen Moss 1pt win 13/2 Bet365 Glen Moss has a lay off of 274 days to overcome, however he goes well fresh as shown when winning here in March 2012. That race worked out pretty well, and with Charles Hills going great guns Glen Moss looks a little overpriced. William Buick looks a good booking too and he rides this course well. 2:55 Doncaster: Beyond Conceit 1pt win 11/2 Betfred A switch to Andrew Balding can often see a horse's form improve and hopefully the same will happen with Beyond Conceit. He already ran pretty well for Tom Tate and if Beyond Conceit can find a little improvement he could go close. He has put in a couple of performances here and the better ground should be in Beyond Conceit's favour too and he goes well fresh. Jamie Spencer keeps the ride. 3:15 Kempton: Stirring Ballard 1pt win 6/1 Bet Victor Stirring Ballard was on an upward curve last season and with a decent pipe opener a couple of weeks ago she looks likley to go well today. She ran up a four timer last summer. Andrew Balding is in good form at the moment and the return to a mile should suit Stirring Ballard. 3:30 Doncaster: Move In Time 1pt win 9/1 Paddy Power & Prodigality 1pt win 12/1 Coral Move In Time quickly produced the goods after his switch to David O'Meara and he still looks fairly handicapped on some of his old form for Bryan Smart despite the hike up the ratings for his win. In the past Move In Time has won a Listed race so if he has been revitalised he should go close from what looks like a decent draw. Prodigality appears to be a horse on the up. He got off the mark the first time of asking this season and there could be more to come. With Ron Harris having his yard in good form and Luke Morris getting on well with Prodigality he may be able to defy his new mark especially as he appears to be a horse that just does enough. 3:50 Kempton: Mister Music 1pt win 15/2 Bet Victor Mister Music has some decent form in some of the big handicaps and if he takes to this surface then he looks overpriced at 15/2. His sire Singspiel won at Nad Al Sheba which was more akin to dirt or Southwell, however Mister Music looks worth a go especially with Richard Hughes and Richard Hannon combining.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:40 Leopardstown: What Style 1pt win 7/2 Bet365 What Style beat Snow Queen on her sole start last season and if she has improved over the Winter she should be up to taking this. She seemed to know her job on debut breaking well and winning nicely. And master handler John Oxx is likely to have What Style pretty straight for this even allowing for one eye being on prizes later in the season.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:20 Newbury: Norse Blues 1pt win 16/1 Ladbrokes Norse Blues looks quite interesting here having his first start for David Barron. He is trainer who has a fine record in big handicaps and has inherited a decent horse in the shape of Norse Blues who won the Spring Mile at Doncaster first time out last season. With Ryan Tate taking a handy five pounds off Norse Blues looks poised to run well. 2:40 Ayr: Bygones of Brid 1pt win 14/1 Ladbrokes Bygones of Brid ran well in this two years ago splitting Sanctuaire and Overturn. In has presumably had some problems as he has only run once since, which looks like a prep run for this. Bygones of Brid ran ok for a fair way at Newcastle on the 1st April and if his talented lady trainer has him pretty straight for this he could be overpriced. 2:55 Newbury: Maureen 1pt win 7/2 Willaim Hill Maureen may not have had the best of runs when beaten by Rosdhu Queen at Newmarket in September. With this extra ditance likely to be in Maureen's favour, there is a chance she can reverse the form with Richard Hannon in fine form and Richard Hughes in the plate. 3:50 Ayr: Monsieur Cadou 2pts win 16/1 Coral & Lively Baron 1pt win 33/1 William Hill Monsieur Cadou looks a stayer on an upward curve. He beat King Fontaine last time out at Haydock last time out and that looks decent form. King Fontaine was third in this race last year behind Merigo and Auroras Encore. The going should not be a problem and there could be more to come from over this extra distance from Monsieur Cadou. Lively Baron is a quirky sort but at times he can be put up a decent performance which would see him go pretty close here. Lively Baron won off 126 earlier in the season and is a pound lower here and has a light weight on his back. The going should not be a problem and his trainer is adept with his staying chasers.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 6:30 Nottingham: Gift of Music 1pt win 8/1 Stan James Gift of Music won quite cosily on her racecourse debut at Wolverhampton. The second Boxing Shadows has won a couple of times since so the limited form seems reasonable. This firmish ground should suit and there could be a fair bit more to come from Gift of Music. On his web site James Eustace says his filly is going well and showing plenty of speed. She looks a little overpriced here.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:20 Epsom: Gabrial's Kaka 2pts win 6/1 Bet365 Gabrial's Kaka looks well overpriced here. He is a course winner, lightly raced and potentially capable of a quite a bit better than he has shown to date. Course form can be very important and Gabrial's Kaka won here in September and did not appear to be stopping over the nine furlongs. The form looked fair enough for when you get just three runners. Gabrial's Kaka is a gelding so he may have been aimed at this race which carries a decent prize in its own right.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:20 Ripon: Two For Two 1pt win 9/2 William Hill Two For Two ran well for David O'Meara on his debut and that looks pretty decent form with the front two only seperated by a head pulling well clear. Oddysey had put up a string of decent efforts previously. This going may be a little more to Two For Two's liking. He also has a pretty decent draw. He is also quite lightly raced for a five year old which gives hope of some more improvement to come. 3:15 Epsom: Eagles Peak 1pt win 5/1 Bet Victor Eagles Peak has presumably had plenty of problems as he has only seen the racecourse three times. Searching some of the gallop reports it reads as though he has been working well leading Sir Michael Stoute's 3 year olds. There is loads of untapped potential and Eagles Peak must have been showing enough for powerful connections to keep him. 3:50 Sandown: Away We Go 2pts win 25/1 Bet365 Having sided with Away We Go in the Irish National he looks worth sticking with here. Fortunately he got in, now there is the small matter of the race. It looked like the Irish National was the long term plan for Away We Go as he was kept to hurdles by Willie Mullins since his switch to the Irish Champion trainer. That National looks rock solid form and off the same 134 and with Declan Lavery taking off another five pounds, Away We Go looks likely to go very close with some luck in running.
