Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 1:30 Cheltenham: Stocktons Wing 1pt win 20/1 William Hill & Hidden Justice 1pt win 16/1 Ladbrokes Stocktons Wing looks quite a big price here considering he ran favourite Our Connor to a couple of lengths at Fairyhouse back in December. Stocktons Wing has gradually improved since, and lines up here on the back of a win in a Grade Two. And with A P McCoy taking over in the saddle and perhaps racing a little close to the pace, Stocktons Wing could go close. In form John Quinn trained last year's winner of this and he has booked Paul Carberry for Hidden Justice. Its a slight concern that Dougie Costello has gone for Kashmir Peak however Hidden Justice could not have done any more in his two victories and he certainly won't lack for assistance from the saddle. Hidden Justice looks to have bit of potential and is capable of progressing further. 2:05 Cheltenham: Hisaabaat 1pt win 25/1 William Hill If the rain stays away and Hisaabaat can recapture the same form that saw him finish second in the Triumph Hurdle then he could go very well at a big price off what looks like a fair mark. The form of that last season's race at The Festival has worked out pretty well, especially with Countrywide Flame going well on Tuesday. Michael Nolan takes off a handy five pounds. 2:40 Cheltenham: Cloudy Copper 2pts win 1pt place 12/1 Paddy Power (1/4 123) Cloudy Copper looks to be a very progressive sort. There has been a lot to like about the manner of his victories at Exeter and Kempton. He went off a big price against a Paul Nicholls odds on shot at Exeter and followed that up in January only having to be pushed out. Cloudy Copper is lightly raced and this distance looks ideal and he should be staying on up the hill. Richie McLernon and Jonjo O'Neill combined for a winner on Thursday. 3:20 Cheltenham: Cape Tribulation 1pt win 16/1 William Hill Cape Tribulation goes really well here. He has won over hurdles and put up a fine effort to win the Argento Chase on Trials Day. There dosen't look anything wrong with that and he demonstrated his staying power there, just getting the better of Imperial Commander. Cape Tribulation got a fine ride from Denis O'Regan that day and he is in the plate again today. 4:40 Cheltenham: Double Ross 1pt win 25/1 William Hill & Village Vic 1pt win 11/1 Stan James Double Ross enjoys running at this course and the Twiston-Davies yard has sprung in to life. If Double Ross gets away in front he may take some pulling back. Double Ross is nine pounds higher than his win here in November however he pulled well clear on that occasion so he should still be competitive. Village Vic is another that has run well here and that form has received a boost this week. The horses Village Vic has finished behind, reads like a Who's Who, The New One, Coneygree, Melodic Rendevous, My Tent or Yours and even Champagne Fever in last season's Bumper. He didn't get too close to any of those rivals yet he was not beaten out of sight either. With Old Vic as his sire this step up should be in Village Vic's favour.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:55 Lingfield: Hoarding 1pt win 11/2 Bet Victor Hoarding was very progressive last year and there is every chance he can pick up where he left off. John Gosden does well here particularly with his three year olds. On breeding it is reasonable to expect he will be effective on this surface. William Buick is back from Meydan for this meeting. 3:15 Uttoxeter: Jukebox Melody 1pt win 20/1 Bet Victor Jukebox Melody had some good form in December 2011 and January 2012 when he ran second twice. Those runs both at Market Rasen behind Fairynuff and more so Hildisvini who went on to run up a hat trick look solid form. He lost his way rather after that, however, he has now joined in form trainer John Wade and if that has freshened him up then he could be reasonably handicapped and overpriced here. 3:30 Lingfield: Premio Loco 1pt win 9/2 William Hill Premio Loco goes exceptionally well on the all weather winning seven from eleven starts, including this race last year. Its likely this race is his early season target and although he has a Group penalty this time, that may not stop him. George Baker as usual is in the saddle and he rides this course as well as anyone. 3:50 Uttoxeter: Big Occasion 1pt win 12/1 Bet365 Staying is the name of the game here and Big Occasion looks as though this marathon trip will suit as he has been noted as staying on in his races. He is out of the handicap, however his amateur rider Mr Mikey Ennis is both capable and takes off seven pounds. The going should not be a problem and David Pipe has a good record in the race.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:15 Uttoxeter: Connectivity 1pt win 16/1 Bet365 Presumably something went wrong with Connectivity after he won here in April 2011. That is a long absence to overcome however these days horses can be very fit when they come back and if Connectivity is close to the form of a couple of years ago he will go close. Connectivity improved for his switch to Richard Newland and its interesting Connectivity has been kept in training.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:40 Doncaster: Hi There 1pt win 20/1 Skybet & Mr Spiggott 1pt win 20/1 Bet365 A wide open handicap, however a selection who has the ability to handle the going, is reasonably handicapped and with a trainer who is either in form or usually does well at this time of year seems the way to go. Richard Fahey picked up a couple of winners on the opening day, and while Hi There appears his second string yet, he could go well at a decent price. Hi There has been very consistent and gradually improved through last season. There is every chance he could continue on that upward curve and if he does he could go close here. Mr Spiggott is another at a decent price and Richard Hughes is an eye catching booking for a small yard who had a winner this week. Mr Spiggott goes well on the surface and is only a couple of pounds higher than his last win on the heavy over this distance. That was a while ago, however he has run well in the meantime and is still lightly raced. It was a fair effort at Windsor on his penultimate start on similar going last season. 3:15 Doncaster: Switcher 1pt win 9/1 Ladbrokes Switcher may have a little to find however she could be well named as horses switching to David O'Meara very often improve, and this former Tom Dascombe inmate may not need to find too much here to be in the shake up. She has run well in decent company both here and in France. She started last season off in the Fred Darling at Newbury. The going is likely to suit, as will the ability to be effective over further, as this six will take a bit of getting on this soft going by these sprinters. 3:50 Doncaster: Hit The Jackpot 1pt win 16/1 Ladbrokes & Swiftly Done 1pt win 25/1 Bet365 Rather like Switcher Hit The Jackpot is interesting on debut for David O'Meara. Hit The Jackpot was running in Group races last season with credit so this represents a drop in class. That form is hard to assess back in handicap company here particularly as all his runs last year were all behind Light Heavy, yet this well bred sort has the look of a horse that could take off, and maybe this is the start. The going should not be a problem. The yard are in form, Danny Tudhope takes the ride and he'll either go very close or finish well out the back. Swiftly Done put in a poor performance in the Cambridgeshire, however prior to that he had put in several decent performances which suggest he is overpriced here. Last season Swiftly Done won here on soft in June before following up at Newcastle on heavy. In the Befred Mile at Goodwood Swiftly Done was full of running when not getting a clear run and with Luke Leadbitter taking seven pounds off he looks capable of a good run.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 2:20 Newbury: Violin Davis 1pt win 6/1 Paddy Power & Valmari 1pt win 20/1 Stan James Violin Davis may not have stopped improving yet. She has been winning her races quite comfortably and its hard for the handicapper to assess how much she has left in the tank. She handles this going and while its a big ask on this going she could be up to this challenge. Harry Fry has his string in good form and has done well this season. Lower down the handicap is Valmari who is rather hit and miss. When everything clicks she can be very good. It was a decent effort to beat Tara Rose at Ludlow and she was running well against Festival winner Rajdhani Express and put up a fair show against Dynaste, although she did fall in both of those races. A risky proposition, however if she puts it all together Valmari may surprise. 2:55 Newbury: Mickie 1pt win 9/1 William Hill Mickie looks a decent form choice here. She has put up rock solid efforts on her last three start, beating Floral Spinner at Ludlow before not being disgraced behind The New One at Warwick and Prima Porta back at Ludlow. In light of their subsequent efforts Mickie does not look over burdened off 130 here. The going and trip look fine and Jake Greenall takes off a handy three pounds.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread Doncaster & Newbury off......... 2:35 Southwell: Red Shadow 1pt win 10/1 Bet365 Red Shadow is quite an in and out performer. However, there is a chance she will put it all together today. She can go pretty well here running second to Marshall Art and then probably bettering that when fourth behind Greenhead High. That was the middle leg of a hat trick for Greenhead High, the second that day had won previous and the third also won on his last outing. At this level that form is reasonable. Red Shadow gets the first time blinkers and Josh Baudains takes off seven pounds. Worth an interest at a double figure price.

Re: New Year's Resolution Thread 3:05 Doncaster: Hit The Jackpot 1pt win 20/1 Stan James & Swiftly Done 1pt win 25/1 Coral Hit The Jackpot is interesting on debut for David O'Meara. The yard are in form; Danny Tudhope was due to take the ride last week and is replaced by a seven pound claimer David Bergin this time. Hit The Jackpot will either go very close or finish well out the back. Swiftly Done put in a poor performance in the Cambridgeshire, however prior to that he had put in several decent efforts which suggest he is overpriced here.
